Oxidative stress impairs the meat quality of broiler by damaging mitochondrial function, affecting calcium metabolism and leading to ferroptosis

  • Objective: This work was conducted to investigate the effects of oxidative stress on meat quality, mitochondrial function, calcium metabolism and ferroptosis of broilers. Methods: In this study, a total of 144 one-day-old male Ross 308 chicks were divided into 3 groups (control group, saline group, and hydrogen peroxide [H2O2] group) with 6 replicates of 8 broilers each. The study lasted for 42 d. The broilers in the saline and H2O2 groups were intraperitoneally injected with 0.75% saline and 10.0% H2O2 on the 16th and 37th day of the experimental period respectively, the injection volumes were 1.0 mL/kg of broiler body weight. On the 42nd day of the experimental period, two chicks were randomly selected from each cage, a total of thirty-six chicks were stunned by electric shock and slaughtered to collect breast muscle samples. Results: The H2O2 exposure reduced pH value, increased drip loss and shear force of breast meat (p<0.05), impaired the ultrastructure and function of mitochondria. The H2O2 exposure damaged the antioxidant system in mitochondria, excessive reactive oxygen species carbonylation modified calcium channels on mitochondria, which impaired the activities of key enzymes on calcium channel, resulted in the increased calcium concentration in cytoplasm and mitochondria (p<0.05). In addition, the H2O2 exposure increased the iron content and lipid peroxidation (p<0.05), which induced ferroptosis. Conclusion: Oxidative stress could impair meat quality by causing mitochondrial dysfunction, resulting in calcium metabolism disorder and ferroptosis.

Corrosion behaviors of SS316L, Ti-Gr.2, Alloy 22 and Cu in KURT groundwater solutions for geological deep disposal

  • Deep geological disposal using a multibarrier system is a promising solution for treating high-level radioactive (HLRW) waste. The HLRW canister represents the first barrier for the migration of radionuclides into the biosphere, therefore, the corrosion behavior of canister materials is of significance. In this study, the electrochemical behaviors of SS316L, Ti-Gr.2, Alloy 22, and Cu in naturally aerated KAERI underground research tunnel (KURT) groundwater solutions were examined. The corrosion potential, current, and impedance spectra of the test materials were recorded using electrochemical methods. According to polarization and impedance measurements, Cu exhibits relatively higher corrosion rates and a lower corrosion resistance ability than those exhibited by the other materials in the given groundwater condition. In the anodic dissolution tests, SS316L exposed to the groundwater solution exhibited the most uniform corrosion, as indicated by its surface roughness. This phenomenon could be attributed to the extremely low concentration of chloride ions in KURT groundwater.

Demonstration of Robust Micromachined Jet Technology and Its Application to Realistic Flow Control Problems

  • This paper describes the demonstration of successful fabrication and initial characterization of micromachined pressure sensors and micromachined jets (microjets) fabricated for use in macro flow control and other applications. In this work, the microfabrication technology was investigated to create a micromachined fluidic control system with a goal of application in practical fluids problems, such as UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)-scale aerodynamic control. Approaches of this work include: (1) the development of suitable micromachined synthetic jets (microjets) as actuators, which obviate the need to physically extend micromachined structures into an external flow; and (2) a non-silicon alternative micromachining fabrication technology based on metallic substrates and lamination (in addition to traditional MEMS technologies) which will allow the realization of larger scale, more robust structures and larger array active areas for fluidic systems. As an initial study, an array of MEMS pressure sensors and an array of MEMS modulators for orifice-based control of microjets have been fabricated, and characterized. Both pressure sensors and modulators have been built using stainless steel as a substrate and a combination of lamination and traditional micromachining processes as fabrication technologies.

침투도랑 시설의 유지관리 시점 산정방법에 관한 연구 (An estimation method for the maintenance timing of the infiltration trench)

  • To manage the non-point source pollution and restore the water circulation, many technologies including infiltration or reservoir systems were installed in the urban area. These facilities have many problems regarding maintenance as their operation period becomes lengthier. The purpose of this study was to estimate the optimal maintenance timing through a long-term load test on the infiltration trench as one of the low impact development techniques. An infiltration trench was installed in the demonstration test facility, and stormwater was manufactured by Manual on installation and operation of non-point pollution management facilities from the Ministry of Environment, Korea and entered into the infiltration trench. Particle size distribution (PSD), suspended solids (SS) removal efficiency, and infiltration rate change tests were performed on inflow and outflow water. In case of the PSD, the maximum particulate size in the outflow decreased from 64 ㎛ to 33 ㎛ as the operating duration elapsed. The SS removal efficiency improved from 97 % to 99 %. The infiltration rate changed from 0.113 L/sec to 0.015 L/sec during the operation duration. The maintenance timing was determined based on the stormwater runoff requirements with these changes in water quality and infiltration rate. The methodologies in this study could be used to estimate the timing of maintenance of other low impact development techniques.

온라인 태권도 시범 공연의 플로우(Flow) 경험이 관여도 및 재관람의도에 미치는 영향 : -성인 여성을 대상으로- (The Effect of flow experience of online Taekwondo demonstration on participation and re-visibility : For adult women)

  • 본 연구는 성인 여성들을 대상으로 온라인 태권도 시범 공연으로 인한 플로우(Flow) 경험이 관여도 및 재관람 의도에 미치는 영향을 파악하고, 온라인 태권도 시범 공연의 활성화 및 관람객 증진, 성인 태권도 수련생 증진을 위한 실질적 자료를 제공하고자 한다. 이에 국기원 태권도 시범단이 공연한 '하이킥' 온라인 태권도 시범 공연을 관람한 관람객 들을 모집단으로 선정하였고, 결과와 논의를 통한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여성 관람객들의 태권도 경험 유무로 인한 플로우, 관여도, 재관람의도의 차이는 플로우 하위요인 중 즐거움 요인을 제외한 주변의식, 시간왜곡, 관여도. 재관람의도 요인에서 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 온라인 태권도 시범 공연의 플로우(Flow) 요인 중 주의집중, 즐거움, 시간왜곡 요인은 관여도에 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 온라인 태권도 시범 공연의 플로우(Flow) 요인은 재관람의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 온라인 태권도 시범 공연의 관여도는 재관람의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Participation Scheme of Smallholder Dairy Farmers in the Northeast Thailand on Improving Feeding Systems

  • A participation scheme involving smallholder dairy farmers in improving dairy productivity through the use of local feeds, on-farm established feeds and crop residues was carried out in the Northeast, Thailand. At six milk collection centers, 63 farmers with 340 lactating cows participated in this research and demonstration of feed supplements. Farmers and cows were allotted to receive respective feed supplements: high-quality feed block (HQFB), high-quality feed pellet (HQFP), dried cassava leaf/cassava hay, dried leucaena leaf and cottonseed meal: 5% urea treated rice straw was fed as a source of roughage throughout the feeding period of the dry season. Trainings and workshops were organized by the researchers at the University, research station, demonstration sites and on-farms. Regular visits to the fartns by researchers and extension officers were made while discussions and demonstrations were performed in addition. Participating farmers also visited other farmers during the demonstration which offered a real practical perspective and farmer-to-farmer interaction. As a result of this participation and demonstration scheme, the farmers could learn more effectively and accepted the technology more readily, especially the practicality of the feed preparation, feed establishment, feeding method and feed reserve. Strategic supplementation of these feed supplements resulted in improving milk yield, milk quality, overall condition of the cows and higher income return through increased productivity and lower level use of concentrate to milk yield from 1:2 to 1:3 or lower. Based on this research and demonstration /participation scheme, all feed supplements enhanced productivity, however the establishment of cassava hay on fartns deserved more attention and warrants a wider developmental expansion among dairy farmers since it contained high rumen by-pass protein (tannin-protein complex) and could be easily produced and be sustainable on farms.

스마트 화재대피 유도 컴퓨터 및 실증 시나리오 시뮬레이션이 피난 유도와 시간에 미치는 영향 (Effects of computer and demonstration scenario simulation using smart fire evacuation guidance on evacuation induction and time)

  • 본 연구는 화재 발생 시 스마트폰 네비게이션 어플리케이션을 이용한 화재 대피 유도 서비스 시스템이 화재대피 시간에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 하는 연구이다. 컴퓨터 시나리오 시뮬레이션에서 네비게이션 어플리케이션을 사용하였을 때 대피시간이 22초 단축되었고 실증시뮬레이션 또한 네비게이션 어플리케이션을 사용하였을 때 대피시간이 40초 감소되어 화재 발생 시 피난 시간 단축에 효과적이라는 점을 알 수 있다. 실증 시나리오 시뮬레이션을 한 결과는 피난유도를 실시한 경우가 실시하지 않은 경우보다 피난 종료까지 시간이 39초 더 빠르게 나타났다. 실증 시나리오 시뮬레이션은 피난 경로에 병목현상이 발생하지 않았고 이로인해 컴퓨터 시나리오 시뮬레이션과 실증 시나리오 시뮬레이션의 대피 완료 소요시간의 차이가 발생하였다. 추후 시나리오 시뮬레이션에 학생실습 연구에 기여할 것이다.

초소형위성의 폐기 기동을 위한 항력 증대 장치 개발 (Development of Drag Augmentation Device for Post Mission Disposal of Nanosatellite)

  • 본 논문에서는 초소형위성용 항력 증대 장치 개발에 대해 기술하였다. 최근 우주 개발이 New Space 시대에 접어들며, 소형 로켓 및 초소형위성 거대 군집 운용 등 인공물체의 저궤도 진입 장벽이 상당히 낮아지는 추세이다. 이로 인해 우주 환경에 존재하는 우주쓰레기의 수가 기하급수적으로 늘어나고 있으며, 현재 운용중인 인공위성뿐만 아니라 앞으로 발사될 인공위성들에 큰 위협으로 다가오고 있다. 이를 방지하기 위해 국제적으로 우주쓰레기 경감 대책을 제시하고 있으며, 대표적으로 IADC(Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee)에서는 '25년 가이드라인'을 권고하고 있다. 한국항공우주연구원에서는 국내 최초로 랑데부/도킹 기술검증용 초소형위성인 KARDSAT(KARI Rendezvous & Docking demonstration SATellite) 프로젝트를 진행하였으며, KARDSAT 위성의 임무 후 폐기 기동(post-mission disposal)을 위한 항력 증대 장치 개발을 통해 우주쓰레기에 대한 국제적 가이드라인을 준수하고자 하였다.
