Using the recycled aggregate not only saves landfill space but also reduces the demand for extraction of natural raw material for new construction activity. However few investigations have been carried out to study the shear behaviors of RC beams with recycled aggregates such as low absorption of recycled aggregate and full-scale specimens. In this study, six reinforced concrete beams were tested to evaluate the effects of shear strength, and shear behavior on the replacement level (0, 30, 60, and 100%) of recycled coarse aggregate and different amounts of shear reinforcement. The results showed that the beams with recycled coarse aggregates present the similar shear strength and deflections as the beam with natural aggregate on an equal amount of shear reinforcement. the reinforced concrete beams with recycled coarse aggregates present the Influence of shear span-to-depth ratio, effective depth, tension reinforcement ratio and compressive strength as the beams with natural aggregate. Shear strength were compared with the provisions in current code (KCI2007) and the equation proposed by Zsutty. The KCI equations were conservative and subsequently can be used for the shear design of recycled aggregate concrete beam.

Recently, a demand for reduction of construction cost by reducing construction period is increasing because of the slump of the construction business, the increasing price of raw-materials and the enforcement of after-sale system. As a method of reducing construction period, many construction companies usually apply a method of reducing curing period. But if they use an existing early strength cement or admixture, they spend a heavy cost on materials and there are many problems, such as a heat of hydration and a loss of workability. The purpose of this research is a reduction of construction cost by reducing construction period as a earlier removal time of form. To check up application of concrete using high early strength binder and admixture, comparative tests were carried out with concrete using an existing early strength cement or admixture such as tests of diurnal variation, setting time and compressive strength.
The demand for weight saving and high performance of aircraft require the more uses of composite materials. However the complicate behaviors and various failure characteristics restrict usage of composite materials. Low-velocity impact damage is a major concern in the design of structures made of composite materials, because impact damage is hidden and cannot be detected by visual inspection. Especially, the reduction on compressive strength after impact is influenced by the ply delaminations introduced as damage by impact event. In this research, the numerical analysis was performed to investigate impact damage and compressive strength after impact. It was found that impact force history and compressive strength after impact calculated by the numerical analysis were compared and shown a good agreement with experimental results.
The effectiveness of bottom ash on the mechanical and physical properties of Controlled Low-Strength Material(CLSM) is investigated in this study, CLSM is defined by the ACI Committee 229 as a cementitious material that is in a flowable state at the time of placement and having a specified compressive strength of 83 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ or less at the age of 28 days. This study was undertaken on the use of bottom ash as a fine aggregate in CLSM. Four different levels of bottom ash with fly ash contents, 25%, 50 %, 75%, 100%, are investigated. Laboratory test results conclude that inclusion of bottom ash increases the demand for mixing water in obtaining the required flow. However, the sand was reduced because it was adjusted to maintain a constant total volume. Miかe proportions were developed for producing CLSM at three 28-day strength levels: removal with tools (less than 7 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$), mechanical means (less than 20 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$), and power equipment (less than 83 kgf/cm\`). The physical and mechanical properties supports the concept that by-product bottom ash can be successfully used in CLSM.
A theoretical study was performed to investigate the behavioral chracteristics and shear strength of fiber reinforced concrete slender beams. In the fiber reinforced concrete beam, the shear force applied to a cross section of the beam was resisted by both compressive zone and tensile zone. The shear capacity of the compressive zone was defined addressing the interaction with the normal stresses developed by the flexural moment in the cross section. The shear capacity of the tensile zone was defined addressing the post-cracking tensile strength of fiber reinforced concrete. Since the magnitude and distribution of the normal stresses vary according to the flexural deformation of the beam, the shear capacity of the beam was defined as a function of the flexural deformation of the beam. The shear strength of the beam and the location of the critical section were determined at the intersection between the shear capacity and shear demand curves. The proposed method was developed as a unified shear design method which is applicable to conventional reinforced concrete as well as fiber reinforced concrete.

An analytical model for predicting the shear strength of prestressed concrete beams was developed, applying the previously proposed strain-based shear strength model. In flexure-compression member without shear reinforcement, compression zone of intact concrete primarily resist to the shear force rather than tension zone. The shear capacity of concrete at the compression zone was defined based on the material failure criteria. The shear capacity of the compression zone was evaluated along the inclined failure surface considering interaction with the normal stress. Since the distribution of normal stress varies due to the flexural deformation of member, the shear capacity was defined as a function of the flexural deformation. Finally, the shear strength was determined at the intersection of the shear capacity curve and the shear demand curve. As a result of the comparisons to prior test data, the proposed model accurately predicted the shear strength of specimens.
Industrialization and urbanization are the two phenomena that are going relentless all over the world. The consequence of this economic success has been a massive increase in waste on one hand and increasing demand for suitable sites for construction on the other. Owing to the surplus raw materials and energy requirement needed for manufacturing synthetic fibers, applications of waste fibers for reinforcing soils evidenced to offer economic and environmental benefits. The main objective of the proposed work is to explore the possibilities of improving the strength of soil using fly ash waste as an admixture and Human Hair Fiber (HHF) as reinforcement such that they can be used for construction of embankments and land reclamation projects. The effect of fiber content on soil - fly ash mixture was observed through a series of laboratory tests such as compaction tests, CBR and unconfined compression tests. From the stress - strain curves, it was observed that the UCC strength for the optimised soil - flyash mixture reinforced with 0.75% human hair fibers is nearly 2.85 times higher than that of the untreated soil. Further, it has been noticed that there is about 7.73 times increase in CBR for the reinforced soil compared to untreated soil. This drastic increase in strength may be due to the fact that HHF offer more pull-out resistance which makes the fibers act like a bridge to prevent further cracking and thereby it improves the toughness which in turn prevent the brittle failure of soil-flyash specimen. Hence, the test results reveal that the inclusion of randomly distributed HHF in soil significantly improves the engineering properties of soil and can be effectively utilized in pavements. SEM analysis explained the change of microstructures and the formation of hydration products that offered increase in strength and it was found to be in accordance with strength tests.
The amount of the wood chip ash is expected to increase continuously as demand of wood chip-based heat and electricity increase. Thus, there is increased interest in wood chip ash utilization. In this study, as a program of utilization in wood chip ash, the physical and chemical properties of wood chip ashes generated from a combined heat and power plant were investigated. The chemical analysis showed that the main contents of wood chip ash are composed of silica, alumina and alkali. A possibility of reuse as secondary cementitious materials was investigated by the analysis of strength activity index, and compared with coal ash. The highest value for Strength activity index of wood chip fly ash was 78% at 90 days curing time. This result revealed that wood chip fly ash has the potential to be utilized as the admixture for cementitious material.
With the increasing global interest in carbon neutrality, the automotive industry is also transitioning to the production of eco-friendly cars, specifically electric vehicles. In order to achieve comparable driving distances to internal combustion engine vehicles, the application of high-capacity battery packs has led to an increase in vehicle weight. To achieve light-weighting and durability requirements of automotive components simultaneously, there is a demand for research on the application of Ultra-High Strength Steel (UHSS). However, when manufacturing chassis components using UHSS, there are challenges related to fracture defects due to lower elongation compared to regular steel sheets, as well as spring-back issues caused by high tensile strength. In this study, a simulated specimen that is not affected by the property changes of four materials was designed to improve formability of the rear cross member, which is the most challenging automotive chassis component. The influence and correlation of material-specific variables were analyzed through finite element analysis (FEA) for each material with tensile strength of 440, 590, 780, and 980 MPa grades, resulting in the development of a predictive equation. To validate the equation, the simulated specimens of 980 MPa grade were produced from the test molds. Then the reliability of the FEA and predictive equation was verified with measured specimen data using a 3D scanner. The results of this study can be proposed to improve the formability of UHSS chassis components in future researches.
As the height and beam span of buildings built in the construction market increase, increasingly higher quality is being required of the construction materials. In response to this trend, 800MPa tensile strength class steel was developed in domestic company. Currently, experiments applying flexural member, compression member, and connections are continuously conducted, but a design guideline for high strength steel has yet to be established. Among those construction materials, for the high strength steel beam-to-column connections, the evaluation of implementing ductile connections for the high strength steel beam-to-column connections is producing pessimistic results and the number of related researches is inadequate because of the high yield ratio, which is the characteristic of high strength steel. This study on implementation of ductile connections made of high strength steel was conducted using the connection detail as the variable, for the purpose of enhancing the deformation capacity of high strength steel beam-to-column connections. Cyclic loading test and nonlinear finite element analysis were conducted with full-scale mock-up connection models with the applied connection details. As a result, the structural performance of high-strength steel beam-to-column connection with presented detail was contented with demand of Special Moment Frames of KBC standard.
