  • Delayed anoxic encephalopathy after carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is characterized by neurological deterioration that occurs after recovery from acute CO intoxication. There has been no established therapy. We report a patient recovered from acute CO intoxication developed various neurological symptoms. After the administration of high dose prednisolone and anticholinesterase inhibitor, the therapeutic effect was remarkable and confirmed by quantitative analysis of diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI). DTI could be used to evaluate the therapeutic effect for delayed anoxic encephalopathy after CO poisoning.

  • Duodenal injuries following a blunt or penetrating trauma are uncommon and account for just 3% to 5% of all abdominal injuries. About 22% of all duodenal injuries are caused by blunt trauma. An overlooked injury or delayed diagnosis of duodenal injury may lead to increased mortality and morbidity. We report two cases of a duodenal injury following blunt abdominal trauma.

  • The injuries to the bronchi have been reported with increasing frequencies. The most common cause of such injuries is compression or crushing chest trauma. Early diagnosis and emergent repair should be done for the good prognosis. We report 3 cases who had bronchial injuries after traffic accident. Our operative procedures were a primary bronchial repair for 17 months old boy, a pneumonectomy for delayed recognition and a bronchoplasty procedure 63 days after trauma. All these bronchial ruptures were successfully treated and discharged.

  • Acupuncture has been widely used to treat a variety of disease and symptoms. But various complications have been reported. Among them, peripheral nerve injuries have been reported less frequently than other complications. The purpose of this report is to describe what we believe to be the first case of delayed superficial and deep peroneal nerve compressive neuropathy caused by fibrotic mass formed by neglected broken acupuncture needle.

  • This report is announced about thermal lag of painted heat detectors. Thermal lag is forecast result from painting the part of heat receiving. It is delayed responsive time to assume fire fighting, escape. Test is simulated that heat detector is painted by synthetic resin emulsion paint according to the circumstance of installation. Painting method, number, thick etc is determined by research worker based on the popular idea.

  • In Sjogren syndrome, abruptly decreased salivation and delayed lag time reveal that many acini cells are destructed and Lymphocytes infiltration is supposed as the main cause that makes dysfunction of salivation. In this case report, the biopsy of minor salivary glands is very useful diagnostic method of Sjogren's syndrome with sialometry, sialography, salivary gland scan.

  • Purpose: This is the report on the results of 150 consecutive cases of delayed postmastectomy reconstruction with TRAM flap performed by single surgeon. The purpose of this study is to review the merits, demerits and other considerations of this method by analyzing the results. Methods: 150 patients were reviewed retrospectively who had breast reconstruction by a single surgeon from July 2001 to July 2008. Reviewed factors include demographic factors, mastectomy method, adjuvant therapies (such as radiation, chemotherapy) complication rate, simultaneous contralateral breast procedure rate, secondary touch-up procedure rate, and patients' satisfaction. Results: Ovarall TRAM flap complication rate was 22.6%. Among them, donor site complication rate was 36%, simultaneous contralateral breast procedure rate was 44.6%, secondary touch-up procedure rate was 40%. All rates were higher compared to immediate reconstruction with TRAM flap. But the patients' satisfaction was about the same as immediate reconstruction. Conclusion: Delayed postmastectomy reconstruction with TRAM flap can yield satisfactory results despite of relatively high complication rate and concomitant procedure rate when it is performed by a experienced surgeon.

  • A Le Fort I osteotomy is a common procedure for correcting dental and facial deformities in orthognathic surgery. In rare cases, a delayed hemorrhage can occur as early as several hours or up to 12 weeks, postoperatively. The most frequently involved blood vessels in a delayed hemorrhage are the descending palatine artery, the internal maxillary artery, and the pterygoid venous plexus of veins. Intraoral bleeding accompanied by severe epistaxis in these cases makes it difficult to locate the precise bleeding focus. Eventual uncontrolled bleeding would require Merocel packing or surgical intervention. In general, a severe late postoperative hemorrhage is most effectively managed by angiography and embolization. Herein we describe a delayed hemorrhage case in which the cause was not evident on angiography. We were able to detect the bleeding point through an endoscopic nasal approach and treat it using direct cauterization.

  • Delayed tooth eruption is the most commonly encountered deviation from normal eruption time. Racial, ethnic, sexual, and individual factors can influence eruption and are usually considered in determining the standards of normal eruption. Delayed tooth eruption was affect to the dentition and facial growth, so that when it occurred careful evaluation should be performed to establish the cause and the treatment plan accordingly. Present 3 cases of delayed tooth eruption by periapical lesion, underdevelopment of incisior and compound odontoma were successfully treated. In these cases, we could observe spontaneous eruption of the delayed erupting tooth after removal of interrupting factor and space regaining with maintaining.

Taurodontism is a morphologic condition of tooth, it seems to be caused by delayed or incomplete union of horizontal epithelial flaps of the epithelial diaphragm. This union is necessary in order to initiate dentinogenesis in the bifurcation area.
