  • In this study, the effective properties were numerically calculated for laminated plain weave textile composites with arbitrary s tacking orientation angles. A single-field macroelement with modified sub-domain integration was used in the analysis to reduce computer resource requirement while efficiently accounting for the internal microstructure. A sample calculation procedure based on the Monte Carlo method was employed to consider the random shift between the layers. Results showed that a significant deviation occurred when the orientation angles were near 0 deg for extensional modulus and Poisson's ratio and 45 deg for the shear modulus. It was also found that the average properties calculated by the 2-layer numerical specimen had large differences compared to the CLT results, which indicated that a caution must be needed when designig of thin plain weave composite structures.

  • One dimensional inhomogeneous aperture modulation effects on the MTF of optical system was investigated. The lens undertest was a doublet made in Korea. It was 10 mm effective diameter, 87.8 mm effective focal length. The ray-fans and spot diagrams were caluculated and presented on the picture for on-axis and off-axis (field of view, 1$^{\circ}$ and 2$^{\circ}$). Aperture modulation was carried out by positioning a aperture modulator close contacted with the lens undertest. We bought two modulators from Edmud Company in U.S.A. One was linear type and the other was stepped type. The MTFs were measured on the best of focus for unmodulated apertue where the MTF has the largest value for 60 c/mm and were compared with one another. The MTFs of modulated apertures had a little lower values than the MTF of unmodulated aperture for on-axis but in the case off-axis, the values are highly improved as much as the wider field of view by modulating on the aperture.

  • An experiment was performed to local heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number in the circular duct of 180.deg. bend for Re=6*10$^{4}$, 8*10$^{4}$ and 1*10$^{5}$ at swirling flow and non-swirling flow conditions. The test tube with circular section was made by stainless which has curvature ratio 9.4. The wall of test tube was heated directly by electrical power to 3.51 kw and swirling motion of air was produced by a tangential inlet to the pipe axis at the 180 degree. Measurements of local wall temperatures and bulk mean temperature of air are made at four circumferential positions in the 16 stations. The wall temperatures show particularly reduced distribution curve at bend for non-swirling flow but this effect does not appear for swirling flow. Nusselt number distributions for swirling flow which was calculated from the measured wall and bulk temperatures were higher than that of non-swirling flow. Average Nusselt number of swirling flow increased about 90 ~ 100% than that of non-swirling flow whole through the test tube. The Nu/N $u_{DB}$ values at the station of 90.deg. for non-swirling flow and swirling flow are respectively about 2.5 and 4.8 at Re=6*10$^{4}$. Also that is good agreement with Said's result for non-swirling flow. flow.

  • An in-line dispersive delay line (DDL) demands low and controllable reflectivity of the reflectors, especially if the surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagates all the way along the reflecting structure. The metal reflectors are usually too strong and introduce too much attenuation in such a device. The proposed solution of this problem is to spatially separate the acoustic channels for different frequencies with the help of Fan-shaped Transducers (FIDT) and to use narrow open metal reflectors to reduce reflectivity. Special arrangement of FIDT is performed to use 180-deg. reflection of the SAW. Narrow open metal strips with a metallisation ratio of the order of 20% are used as reflectors with small and controllable reflectivity. Reflectivity of such strips is estimated both theoretically and experimentally. Experimental performance of the proposed DDL is presented.

  • We have presented the electrical properties of the quantum wire fabricated by split gate on GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures by using the Shubnikov de Haas oscillation and quantum Hall effect measurements. We observed the 1D properties of the sample as increasing gate voltage. The misfit between quantum Hall plateau and minima in Shubnikov do Haas oscillations are interpreted as Landauer-B$"{u}$ tikker formula based on the edge state transport.port.

  • Grip strength is a very important basic data for ergonomic design of hand tools, grips, handles and etc.. Excessive grip strength is contineously exerted to handle the machines or tools, it might cause a musculoskeletal disorder such as cumulative trauma disorders. Capal tunnel syndrome is a typical nerve disorder anomg CTDs. In this paper we have measured the grip strength under sitting and standing posture for Korean adults ; 113 male and 105 female aged from 20' to the above 50' . And this paper performed statistical analysis for driving out characteristics between grip strength and anthropometric data. The results are as follows ; (1) The maximum girp strength is exerted under standing posture with the elbow in full extension(180 .deg. ) for both of male and female (2) There is significant difference in posture, sex and right left hand (3) Grip strength decreases with age for male, but it traces an inverted U curve for female (4) Grip strength has a correlation with age, weight, height, BSA, forearm length, hand length, thickness of wrist, circumference of wrist and breadth of wrist for male

  • We report preliminary results from our analyses on the star-forming galaxies in the Herschel/SPIRE survey data over the AKARI/NEP-Wide Field. In this work, we utilize a combination of the SPIRE point source catalogue containing ~ 4,800 sources distributed over the wide (5.6 sq. deg) field and the spectroscopic redshift (zSPEC) data for 1790 selected targets obtained by MMT/Hectospec and WIYN/Hydra. Our analyses take advantages of multi-wavelengths photometric data (28 bands at most) covering from u* to $500{\mu}m$ band as well as continuous MIR wavelengths sampling by AKARI and WISE (4 to $25{\mu}m$). Various physical properties such as total infrared luminosity (LTIR), star formation rate (SFR), and luminosity functions (LFs) will be presented.

  • It is improtant to get accurate information about the grip strength for designing ergonomic grips and handles. It has been known that the excessive and repetitive use of grip force and unnatural posture of the wrist may cause cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs) such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendrome, tendonitis, DeQuervan's disease, etc. In this paper we have measured the grip strength for sitting and standing posture for Korean adults ; 114 males and 105 females aged from the 20's to above the 50's. And this paper performed statistical analysis for deriving characteristics between grip strength and anthropometric data. The results are as follows ; (1) The maximum grip strength posture is exerted under standing posture with the elbow in full extension (180 .deg. ) for both males and females (2) There is significant difference among posture, sex and right and/or left handedness (3) Grip strength decreases with age for male, but it traces an inverted U curve for female (4) Grip strength has corre- lations with the age, weight, height, BSA, forearm length, hand length, thickness of wrist, circumference of wrist, and breadth of wrist for males.

  • Galaxy clusters, the largest gravitationally bound system, are important means to place constraints on cosmological model and to study the evolution and the formation of galaxies and their large scale distribution. We will report results from our study of galaxy clusters in the European Large Area ISO Survey North1/North2(ELAIS-N1/N2) fields, covering a total of 10.8 $deg^2$. We combine multiple wavelength data from IMS survey, UKIRT Infrared Deep Survey-Deep Extragalactic Survey (UKIDSS-DXS, JK bands), Spitzer Wise-area InfraRed Extragalactic survey (SWIRE, Optical-Infrared bands), and CFHT (u,g,r,i,z bands.) The photometric redshifts are derived from these datasets and are used to search for high redshift galaxy clusters at 0.8 < z < 1.5.
