  • As the makeup water entering the boiler feed water cycle usually contains corrosive gases, particularly oxygen and carbon dioxide, so the corrosive gases should be eliminated by a deaerator. While the other domestic companies have made a deaerator for land industrial field, our company has developed and is able to produce a spray & scrubber type deaerator for marine to maintain below the level of 7ppb of dissolved oxygen in the condensate. In this paper, we describe the principle, design technique and experimntal results of the spray & scrubber type deaerator.

  • The deaerator of a power plant is one of feedwater heaters in the secondary system, and it is located above the feedwater pumps. The feedwater pumps take the water from the deaerator storage tank, and the net positive suction head(NSPH) should always be ensured. To secure the sufficient NPSH, the deaerator tank is equipped with the level control system of which level sensors are critical items. And it is necessary to ascertain the sensor state on-line. For this, a model-based fault detection and diagnosis(FDD) is introduced in this study. The dynamic control model is formulated from the relation of input-output flow rates and liquid-level of the deaerator storage tank. Then an adaptive state estimator is designed for the fault detection and diagnosis of sensors. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed FDD scheme are evaluated by applying the operation data of Yonggwang Units 3 & 4.

  • In this study, a thermal flow analysis was performed using the commercial code, ANSYS-FLUENT to reduce room temperature in a turbine building of power plant. The selected control volume of the operating floor and deaerator floor for the turbine building was respectively modelled. The skylight windows at the deaerator floor were employed for ventilation windows. Through the study, in the first we found that all window close of the deaerator floor is one alternative for reducing the temperature of the operating floor. The next thing we knew that for windows open at the front of the deaerator floor, the temperature of deaerator zone and crane zone can be respectively reduced to $1.5^{\circ}C$ and $1.6^{\circ}C$. In addition, for windows close at the rear of the deaerator floor, the temperature of deaerator zone and crane zone can be respectively reduced to 1.4 and $0.5^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was concluded that a better choice is to open the front windows at deaerator floor to reduce the temperature of the entire deaerator floor having high temperature.

  • Dissoved oxygen(DO) control by deaerator has a great effect on the integrity of S/G in nuclear power plant. The goal of this study based on the theoretical basis and the extensive surveys is to identify the effect of deaerator in feedwater system on steam generator to clear the need of installation of deaerator. In addition, this paper discusses the review to understand the mechanism of DO formation as well as removal. The conclusion is that the installation of deaerator improve the integrity of S/G and is contributed to the whole nuclear power plant safety.

  • Steam power generation is used to produce electricity through a generator that is connected to a steam turbine. As a result, the surface temperature of the deaerator is $70^{\circ}C$during the summer season, the surface temperature of the storage tank is $67^{\circ}C$, and the air temperature is $50^{\circ}C$. This environment is inappropriate for workers and instruments. Workers adjacent to the deaerator and storage tank in particular feel higher temperatures because of the radiative heat transfer effect. Therefore, we optimized the cooling conditions by computational analysis. Case 1 is the current shape of the power plant, Case 2 has additional insulation, and Case 3 has a radiation shield. Flow is caused by a temperature difference between the heat sources in the wall, and hot air is trapped in the right upper end. Based on the temperature contours and the maximum temperature of the surfaces, Case 2 was found to be the most efficient for reducing radiative heat transfer effects.

  • In this paper, dynamic control model is formulated by considering the geometrical structure of the deaerator storage tank in nuclear power plant and input-output flow rate at steady state, and we describe fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) scheme based on the adaptive estimator. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed FDD scheme are evaluated by applying real operating data obtained from the YOUNGKWANG 3 & 4 FSAR.

  • There are three main devices such as boiler producing steam, turbine driving generator and generator producing electricity. An electrical generator in power plant is driven and maintained its speed at rated by steam turbine which is coupled into generator directly. Turbine auxiliary devices such as condenser, deaerator, feed water heater, gland steam condenser, pump recirculation equipment, feed water pump, and so on should be operated well so that the steam turbine exert its maximum efficiency. There are many control loop such as hot well level and condenser recirculation, deaerator level, pegging steam pressure, feed water heater level, feed water pump recirculation. In this paper condenser level control and deaerator level control are going to be described.

  • This paper presents the basis for the need of feed-water deaerator installation in nuclear power plant and has been conducting reviews to understand the mechanism of dissolved oxygen(DO) formation as well as removal. DO is produced by feedwater make-up, air inleakage in vacuum system and condensation in condenser, etc. and removed by mechanical method and chemical method. DO has an influence on S/G in the form of denting, pitting, fretting, etc. DO control by deaerator has an great effect on the integrity of S/G in nuclear power plant.

  • There was transient vibration on the piping system from #4 heater to the deaerator in a power plant. We found it was resulted from resonance between the natural vibration of the piping system and vibration induced by flow of feedwater. We verified it would reduce vibration by increasing stiffness of the piping system. Therefore we concluded that it would be generally better to increase stiffness of the piping system to reduce vibration amplitude of 10Hz low for big sized piping systems.

  • This study was conducted on combined cycle power plant consisting of HRSG with integral deaerator type to avoid tube failures of low pressure evaporator tubes. Based on the observation of pH variation at the discharge of boiler feed water pump by continuous pH measurement for a period of time, it was identified that pH of feed water is getting reduced as ammonia is distributed into vapor and liquid depending on the distribution ratio of ammonia in the LP drum after the deaerator. To solve this problem, the counterplan was prepared by reexamination of ammonia injection point and quantity. In conclusion, it was accomplished that 9.2~9.6 is the optimized pH range for boiler feed water by arranging additional piping for ammonia to inject directly to LP drum.
