To meet stringent LEV and ULEV emission standards, a considerable amount of development work was necessary to ensure suitable efficiency and durability of catalyst systems. The main challenge is to cut off the engine cold-start emissions. It is known that up to 80% of the total hydrocarbons(THC) are exhausted within the first five minutes in case of US FTP 75 cycle. Close-Coupled Catalyst(CCC) provides fast light-off temperature by utilizing the energy in the exhaust gas. However, if some malfunction occurred at engine operation and the catalyst temperature exceeds 1050$\^{C}$, the catalytic converter is deactivated and shows the poor conversion efficiency. This paper presents effEcts of engine operating conditions on catalytic converter temperature in a SI engine, which are the indications of catalytic deactivation. Exhaust gas temperature and catalyst temperature were measured as a function of air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and misfire rates. Additionally, light-off time was measured to investigate the effect of operating conditions. It was found that ignition retard and misfire can result in the deactivation of the catalytic converter, which eventually leads the drastic thermal aging of the converter. Significant reduction in light-off time can be achieved with proper control of ignition retard and misfire, which can reduce cold-start HC emissions as well.

The in-cylinder flow field of gasoline engine comprises unsteady compressible turbulent flows caused by the intake port, combustion chamber geometry and the change of the spatial shape. Thus the quantitative analysis of the in-cylinder bulk flow plays an important role in the improvement of engine performances and the reduction of exhaust emission. The influences of tumble intensifying valve (TIV) and swirl intensifying valve (SIV), and various intake-flow conditions are compared with the tumble ratio obtained by the measured results of the in-cylinder gas flow. In order to obtain the quantitative analysis of the in-cylinder gas flows of gasoline engine this investigation applied the particle tracking method to the analysis of gas flow characteristics. Various intake conditions such as tumble and swirl intensifying valve, the deactivated condition of one valve among two intake valves, and the other factors of gas flow are considered.
WGS reaction over Mo2C and ceria based catalysts was investigated to develop an alternative commercial Cu-Zn/Al2O3 catalyst for fuel processor and hydrogen station. The Mo2C catalysts were prepared by a temperature programmed method and the various metal supported cerium oxide catalysts were prepared by an Impregnation method. The catalysts were characterized by the N2 physisorption, Co chemisorption, XRD, TEM and TPR. It was found that Mo2C and 0.2wt% Pt-40wt%, Ni/CeO2 catalysts had higher activity and stability than the Cu-Zn/Al203 above $260^{\circ}C$. Moreover, CO conversion of more than 85% was observed at $280{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. But all catalysts were deactivated during the thermal cycling runs. The results suggest that these catalysts are an attractive candidate for the alternative Cu-Zn/Al2O3 catalyst for fuel processor and hydrogen station applications.

Several lipases of commercial grade were screened to catalyze the methanolysis of castor oil, and an immobilized Candida antarctica (Novozym 435) had the highest activity among the lipases tested. To enhance the yield of methyl ricinoleate, several reaction parameters were optimized. The optimum temperature was $50^{\circ}C$, and the original water content of lipase was sufficient to maintain the activity of lipase, and additional water supplied inhibited the methanolysis of castor oil. Because the lipase was deactivated by methanol, the reaction was tested by three-step addition of 1 molar equivalent of methanol to the oil. However, the oil was not completely converted to its methyl esters. The final reaction mixture using 3 molar equivalents of methanol to the oil consisted of $70\%$ methyl ricinoleate, $18\%$ monoricinoleate, $11\%$ diricinoleate, and trace triricinoleate at the equilibrium state. The yield of methyl ricinoleate was $97\%$ at 6 molar ratio of methanol to the oil with 300g of castor oil and 6g of immobilized Candida antarctica at $50^{\circ}C$ within 24 h.

The alkylation benzene with 1-dodecene of Mordenite, Zeolite ${\beta}$ and Zeolite Y was studied in the stirring batch reactor. The kinds of zeolites were found to have influenced the reaction conversion and distribution of phenyldodecane isomer in the product. Compared to the alkylation conducted over Zeolite Y and Zeolite ${\beta}$, the alkylation over Mordenite exhibited higher distribution of 2-phenyldodecane and the alkylation conducted over Zeolite Y and Mordenite, the alkylation over Zeolite ${\beta}$ exhibited higher distribution of heavy alkylate which formed through oligomerization reaction readily deactivated the Lewis acid sites. A special feature of the effect of the benzene to 1-dodecene ratio the reaction conversion and selectivity of phenyldodecane isomer was found. At alkylation of benzene with 1-dodecene over Zeolite ${\beta}$, when the catalyst content in the system was high, the reaction will reach the optimal conversion at the higher B/D. When the benzene to 1-dodecene ratio was high, the selectivity of phenyldodecane isomer is high. It was also found that at the similar reaction conversion there was the same product distribution regardless of D/C ratio.
Aging in females is associated with a reduced metabolic function, increased incidence of neurodegenerative diseases, and cognitive dysfunction, as a result of loss in gonadal function. The change can alter the states of phosphorylation on the proteins, which cause dramatic changes in the cellular location or activity of the proteins. In this study, the differential phosphorylation of the proteins responsible for the functions related to cognition was studied using the ovariectomized adult rats. Phosphoproteomic analysis using the cerebral and hippocampal tissues could identify 51 differentially phosphorylated proteins including 12 proteins for energy metabolism, 8 cytoskeletal proteins, 6 signaling proteins, and other functional proteins in the ovariectomized rats. Further, anti-oxidative enzymes, superoxide dismutase and peroxiredoxin-2, which are known to be inactivated by phosphorylation, were found to be differentially phosphorylated in the cerebellum and hippocampus of the ovariectomized rats, respectively. Many of the deactivated proteins by differential phosphorylation identified in this study were overlapped to those of Alzheimer's disease cases. These results will provide information for neurodegenerative learning and memory impairments in women as brought about by menopause.

Physical and electrochemical qualities were analyzed after KOH activation of a direct methanol fuel cell using needle coke as anode supporter. The results of research on support loaded with platinum-ruthenium suggest that an activated KOH needle coke container has the lowest onset potential and the highest degree of catalyst activity among all commercial catalysts. Through an analysis of the CO stripping voltammetry, we found that KOH activated catalysis showed a 21% higher electrochemical active surface area (ECSA), with a value of 31.37 m2 /g, than the ECSA of deactivated catalyst (25.82 m2 /g). The latter figure was 15% higher than the value of one specific commercial catalyst (TEC86E86).

Steam reforming of LPG was investigated over spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst in a temperature range of $600{\sim}850^{\circ}C$, feed molar ratio of $H_2O/C=1.0{\sim}3.0$, space velocity of $10,000{\sim}90,000h^{-1}$ and at atmospheric pressure. spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst was prepared by a co-precipitation method, whereas Ni/MgO and $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts were prepared by an incipient wetness method. The characteristics of catalysts were analyzed by N2 Physisorption, CO chemisorption, XRD, TOF-SIMS, SEM and TEM techniques. The Ni/MgO and $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts were deactivated by the formation of carbon. However, the spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst showed higher conversion and $H_2$ selectivity than the other catalysts, even though carbon was formed on the surface of the catalyst during the reaction under the tested reaction conditions.
Conversion of DME (dimethyl ether) or methanol to light olefins (ethylene, propylene, butenes) over SAPO-34 were systematically studied, where it was observed that DME was dehydrated to light olefins and partially converted to by-products such as CO and $CO_2$ at various reaction temperatures on the time-on-stream. SAPO-34 catalyst during the DTO (dimetyl ether-to-olefins) reaction was significantly deactivated compared with MTO (methanol-toolefins) reaction. By addition of water to the reaction feed, the yield to light olefins was not only increased, but the life time of the catalyst was also prolonged by the suppression of the coke formation by steam.
Hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, has long been used to increase the absorption of drugs into tissue and to reduce tissue damage in cases of extravasation of a drug. With the increasing popularity of hyaluronic acid filler, hyaluronidase has become an essential drug for the correction of complications and unsatisfactory results after filler injection. For this reason, when performing procedures using hyaluronic acid filler, a sufficient knowledge of hyaluronidase is required. In order for hyaluronidase to dissolve a hyaluronic acid filler, it must interact with its binding sites within the hyaluronic acid. The reaction of a filler to hyaluronidase depends on the hyaluronic acid concentration, the number of crosslinks, and the form of the filler. Hyaluronidase is rapidly degraded and deactivated in the body. Therefore, in order to dissolve a hyaluronic acid filler, a sufficient amount of hyaluronidase must be injected close to the filler. If the filler is placed subcutaneously, injection of hyaluronidase into the filler itself may help, but if the filler is placed within a blood vessel, it is sufficient to inject hyaluronidase in the vicinity of the vessel, instead of into the filler itself. Allergic reactions are a common side effect of hyaluronidase. Most allergic reactions to hyaluronidase are local, but systemic reactions may occur in infrequent cases. Since most allergic responses to hyaluronidase are immediate hypersensitivity reactions, skin tests are recommended before use. However, some patients experience delayed allergic reactions, which skin tests may not predict.
