Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the development of health and safety programs by examining child-care teacher's knowledge, self-confidence and practice concerning the health and safety of children under their care. Method: The participants were 72 teachers from 15 child care centers in Seoul City and Chung-Nam Province. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS 12.0 Win program. Results: The mean score for self-confidence was lower than knowledge and practice. Self-confidence score about emergency care for falls, fractures and resuscitation were lowest. For safety knowledge, scores about facility and environment were lowest. For health knowledge, scores about disease and symptoms were lowest. For practice, scores about seat belts and safe furniture arrangement were lowest. Significant correlations were found between practice and self-confidence. There were significant differences in the degree of knowledge according to education, and in practice according to age. Conclusions: Health and safety education programs for child care teachers are necessary for the promotion of knowledge, self-confidence and practice in health and safety. The results suggest that health and safety education program should be provided systematically and continuously for child care teachers.

Daycare center is an important space for children's mental, physical and social development. Each space of daycare center should be designed and constructed considering interests of end-users such as children and teachers. However, insufficient related guidelines and standardized design and construction of daycare center to moderate potential risks of each space. This arises from the difference in perception of each space between end-users (head and sub teachers) and construction experts (designers and contractors). Therefore, research framework was developed for analyzing the factors of perception differences of each space in daycare center between these groups applied traditional and modified Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). By comparing risk perception between end-users and experts in two methods, it can be support as construction guide for daycare center in the future and will help minimize conflicts in construction among stakeholders. Moreover, it was found that traditional IPA is comfortable to catch prior project perception of participants, and revised IPA is considered to judge outputs by identifying participant's importance based on the satisfaction of the project performance. Therefore, if IPAs are applied according to the characteristics of the circumstances, it is possible to analyze the perception difference between end-users and construction experts based on the context before and after the construction of the daycare center.
A nutrition education program for teachers and caregivers of the preschool children can be most effective when it is based on a comprehensive needs assessment dealing with sociodemographic factors, dietary habits, and nutrition. The purpose of the present study was to investigate current dietary habits and nutrition knowledge of the teachers and caregivers of the day-care centers. Two hundred forty two teachers and caregivers were administered a questionnaire which was designed to ascertain informations on sociodemographic data, dietary habits and nutrition knowledge. Dietary habits of the teachers were found to be significantly different by sociodemographic variables; breakfast skipping/meal irregularities (age, p=0.011); frequency of snacking (education level p=0.031); preference for salty taste(age, p = 0.000, marital status p=0.038); preference for sweet tarte (age p=0.009); preference for vegetables (income level p=0.050); frequency of eating out (age p=0.028, marital status p=0.001); frequency of coffee drinking (age p=0.019). Daycare center teachers' nutrition knowledge level was found to be less than adequate expecially on nutrients that are liable to be deficient in young growing children and their food sources. Proportions of the teachers who answered correctly to the questions on foods rich in vitamin A, iron content of milk, bioavailability of calcium in plant foods were as low as 20.2%-54.5%. The most frequently used sources of nutrition information were mass media such as TV, radio, newspaper and magazines. Only 2.9% of the subjects reported that they obtain nutrition information from health professionals such as nutritionists/dietitians, physicians, and nurses. These findings are applicable at the planning and implementation stages of various nutrition programs for the improvement of dietary habits and nutrition knowledge of the teachers and caregivers of the daycare centers. Further studies are needed to investigate the effects of teachers' dietary of habits and nutrition knowledge on food habits of young growing children.
The purpose of this study is to find out if individual variables, ego resilience, self-efficacy, and perfectionism of pre-service daycare teachers can predict anxiety about reality shock after being daycare teachers. Subjects were 176 college students in their 1st~4th year who wanted to become daycare teachers. The data were verified by using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The study results are as follows: First, the higher the year of school they were in, the higher the anxiety about reality shock was. Second, there was a significant correlation among ego resilience, self-efficacy, perfectionism, and anxiety about reality shock. Specifically, as ego resilience and self-efficacy are lower and perfectionism is stronger, anxiety about reality shock was found to be higher. Finally, the year of school, self-efficacy, and perfectionism of pre-service teacher turned to be variables predicting anxiety about reality shock. Based on the results of this study, we searched for a solution to reduce anxiety about reality shock of pre-service daycare teachers and provide basic information that can do properly prepare future teachers.

The aim of this study was to identify the self-confidence in performance and education demand of first aid in kindergarten and daycare center teachers. The data from a questionnaire were collected from teachers in kindergarten and daycare centers from March 5 to 31, 2015. The responses from 149 teachers were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. The results showed that self-confidence in the performance of first aid was mostly low (mean score 2.70), but was significantly high in cases of having a willingness to perform first aid (p=.002). The education demand for first aid was mostly high (mean score 4.04), and significantly high in the case of having experience of emergency situations (4.21, p=.006), and being educated in first aid while working in a childcare facility (4.14, p=.001). Therefore, it is important to educate teachers in first aid regularly after developing an optimized program considering the frequency of emergency situations, and level of self-confidence in the performance and education demand of first aid.
The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of kindergarten teachers and daycare teachers on a character strengths-based happiness promotion program geared toward early childhood teachers and their needs for that in an effort to provide some information on the development of this program and how to boost the quality of life of early childhood teachers. The findings of the study were as follows: First, as a result of analyzing their character strengths, happiness and awareness of the two variables, both of the kindergarten and daycare teachers weren't well aware of their own character strengths, and the kindergarten teachers replied they put more efforts into the promotion of their happiness than the daycare teachers did. Second, as a result of looking for any possible differences between the two groups in needs for the development of a happiness promotion program, there were significant differences in opinions on the purpose of the program, operator, execution cycle, what college should be responsible for the development of the program, what early childhood education institutions should conduct it, what efforts teachers should make, what problems might take place during the development of the program, how to raise awareness of the program, and what support would be necessary for the implementation of the program.

In daycare centers, the head teacher requires the leadership to effectively meet the demands of nursery facilities, since he or she plays a role of middle management in charge of communication with the director and the teachers. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the structural relationship between the head teacher's leadership and job satisfaction of childcare teachers to enhance their organizational commitment and improve service quality and operation of nursery facilities. A survey was conducted of childcare teachers in national and public daycare centers located in Gyunggi Province from February to March 2018. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 statistical programs. Analysis results found that leadership of the head teacher positively affected job satisfaction and organizational commitment of childcare teachers. Second, the job satisfaction of childcare teachers positively affected organizational commitment. Third, job satisfaction of childcare teachers had a mediating effect in the relationship between the head teacher's leadership and the childcare teachers' organizational commitment. Results of this study suggest that effective leadership of the head teacher should be exercised to enhance the organizational commitment of childcare teachers.
Purpose: The purpose of study was to describe knowledge and attitude to Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) in preschool teachers in Korea. Methods: Survey methodology using a self administered questionnaire was employed as the research design. Knowledge and attitude were measured with a questionnaire modified from Jerome, Gordon, and Hustler (1994) and Ghanizadeh, Bahredar, and Moeini (2006). Of 223 questionnaires mailed out to 42 daycare centers in one district in Seoul, 164 questionnaires (73.5%) were used for data analysis. Data analysis was done using SPSS.WIN 15.0. Results: The mean score on knowledge for the teachers was 11.27 (59.3%) out of maximum score of 19. For question items, the percentage of correct answers related to etiology of ADHD was under 10% and the correct rate regarding treatment of ADHD was over 90%. Preschool teachers had a mean score on attitude of 20.77 out of 33. Less than 50% of the teachers reported positive attitudes toward the child with ADHD and over 90% agreed that the child with ADHD needs a special environment and specially trained teachers. Age (r=.236, p=.002) and marital status (t=-3.661, p=.000) were significantly related to attitude toward the child with ADHD. Knowledge and attitude had a significant positive correlation (r=.245, p=.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that educational programs and strategies should be developed to increase knowledge of preschool teachers on ADHD. Public health nurses also need to develop and implement education programs for teachers at daycare centers and others involved in child care in the community.
This research aims to find out what pre-service teachers are seriously concerned about and what they contemplated during the process of discovering the meanings of teaching, and to reveal the meanings compiled by the pre-service teachers. Furthermore, this research intends to identify the elements considered to help the pre-service teachers continue to construct the meanings of teaching in the education for pre-service daycare teachers by reviewing the process of contemplation. To do so, this study selected a target group of 29 seniors of M University who took the class of 'Teaching Method for Young children' given in the first semester of 2012 and 'Child Care and teaching Practice' given in the second semester of 2012. Research data collection was done based on the paper materials on participant observation, interview, student journals and professor feedbacks and small group discussion. According to the research, the pre-service teachers created the meanings of teaching as they experience confusion between one extreme to another of power and looking easy, having children focused and being focused, just giving and leaving and discrimination and equality. They considered teaching as a process of continuous reconstruction by choosing the best place between the opposites within the context of teaching and understood that teaching is to respect the right of learning for children and at the same time to make efforts to develop inner-self. In addition, to support the pre-service daycare teachers in their efforts to find the nature of teaching in the education program, it is required to review the teaching process from a variety of aspects in the atmosphere where they are not afraid of confusion, and to provide time to meditate alone and share ideas with others.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of teachers' vocational aptitude and sense of responsibility on their teaching efficacy in early childhood education and care. 259 teachers in ECEC were recruited from 19 daycare centers and the data were analyzed through frequency, percentage, Pearson's correlations, and stepwise regression using SPSS 18.0. The findings are as follows. First, teachers' teaching efficacy was significantly different according to their age, the number of years of teaching experiences, and education levels. Second, all degrees of teachers' vocational aptitude, sense of responsibility, and their teaching efficacy were higher than the median points. Second, teachers' efficacy relating with running class was affected most by the ability of safe management in vocational aptitude, and teaching methods in sense of responsibility. For teachers' efficacy relating to teaching, acceptability/sensitivity in vocational aptitude and motivation had the most impact. The implication was discussed in order to figure out the ways to increase teachers' efficacy.
