Database Modeling and Environmental Information for a Radioactive Waste Repository Site

  • For the safe management of nuclear facilities, including a radioactive waste repository, data about the facility site and the surrounding environment must be collected and managed systematically. This is particularly true for a radwaste repository, which has to be institutionally controlled for a long period after closure. The objectives of this study are (1) to establish a systematical management plan for information about a radwaste repository site and its environment, and (2) to design a database management program for this information, based on the Relative Database Management System (RDBMS). The spatial data are designed by the geodatabase, which is a new object, based on the RDBMS, to manage spatial information related to the database. To meet this requirement, a new program called 'Site Information and Total Environmental data management System (SITES)' is being developed. The scope that produced from the first step of the present study for development of the SITES is introduced. The database is designed to combine spatial and attribute data, and is designed for the establishment of the Geographic Information System (GIS). The hardware and software systems are designed with consideration given to the total data management of the items within the radioactive environment.

Comparative analysis of model performance for predicting the customer of cafeteria using unstructured data

  • This study aimed to predict the number of meals served in a group cafeteria using machine learning methodology. Features of the menu were created through the Word2Vec methodology and clustering, and a stacking ensemble model was constructed using Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, and CatBoost as sub-models. Results showed that CatBoost had the best performance with the ensemble model showing an 8% improvement in performance. The study also found that the date variable had the greatest influence on the number of diners in a cafeteria, followed by menu characteristics and other variables. The implications of the study include the potential for machine learning methodology to improve predictive performance and reduce food waste, as well as the removal of subjective elements in menu classification. Limitations of the research include limited data cases and a weak model structure when new menus or foreign words are not included in the learning data. Future studies should aim to address these limitations.

수직 원형관내 혼합대류 유동영역지도의 유효성 검토 (Validity Review of Mixed Convection Flow Regime Map in Vertical Cylinders)

  • 본 연구에서는 기존에 알려진 수직 원형관내 혼합대류 유동영역지도에 대하여 원 문헌의 분석과 재구성을 통해 지도의 유효성 검토를 수행하였다. 지도를 구성하는 원 문헌을 수집하여 내용을 정리하였고 조사한 데이터와 대류열전달 상관식을 활용하여 독립적으로 지도를 재구성하고 기존의 지도와 비교하였다. 재구성한 지도에는 혼합대류 영역이 곡선이 아니라 직선으로 나타났으며 천이영역을 나타내는 것은 재현되지 않았다. 일부 데이터만 포함된 기존의 지도와 달리 재구성 지도에는 상당히 많은 양의 데이터가 포함됐다. 기존의 유동영역지도는 활용된 데이터가 선택적으로 사용되었고, 혼합대류와 천이영역을 나타내는 실선 대해 언급되지 않았으며 불확실도 분석을 통한 정보를 제공하지 않았기 때문에 신뢰할 수 없다고 판단된다. Metais와 Eckert의 연구 이후, 혼합대류에 관한 많은 연구가 수행되었으나 대류의 유동영역을 구분하는 방법으로 기존의 지도가 지금까지 활용되고 있다.

수열처리에 의한 폐병유리의 다공질 재료화 (Porous Materials from Waste Bottle Glasses by Hydrothermal Treatment)

  • Porous materials were manufactured by hydrothermal treatment of waste bottle glass without foam agent. Factorial design was applied to analyze data by statistical methods and deal with the important factors for a process. The largest effect for porosity was for temperature of hydrothermal treatment. Amount of water and temperature-water interaction appeared to have little effect. The particle size of raw material was also identified as a major factor by one-way ANOVA and the porosity decreased as the size increased. The sintering temperature was not statistically significant for the porosity but was significant for the pore size. The porous material had compressive strength and thermal conductivity comparing with those of ALC (autoclaved lightweight concrete), although it has higher porosity than for ALC.

  • The thermo-hydro-mechanical (T-H-M) process is one of major issues in the performance assessment of a high level waste (HLW) repository. An engineering-scale test was planned and its experimental set-up has being installed, to validate the T-H-M behavior in the buffer of a reference disposal system. The experimental set-up consists of 4 major components: the confining cylinder with its hydration water tank, the bentonite block, the heating system, and the sensors and instruments. The monitoring and data acquisition system is employed to control the heater to maintain the temperature of $95^{\circ}C$ at the interface of the heater and bentonite blocks and to collect signals from sensors and instruments installed in the bentonite blocks.

고형폐기물 소각로에서 배출되는 대기오염물질간의 상관성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Correlation Level Among Air Pollution from Solid waste Incinerator)

  • The purpose of this study is providing basic data to control the air pollutants from solid waste incinerator. Incinerating the waste wood, the electrostatic precipitator had the best collection efficiency. The leather incineration had the same collection efficiency as synthetic resin incineration. And the coarse particle collection efficiency was high. As you know in correlation of leather incineration. pollutants produced a from incinerator are mostly fine particles. If the scrubber used only in the process produced a lot of fine particles. It is adequate to use the above control devices, together with high efficiency collector like bag-filter. To select the adequate control devices, it is required to investigate the size distribution before establishing control devices.

  • This study shows basic data for using as the structural lightweight aggregate. This will be the procedural method of recycling environmental close waste PET bottle lightweight aggregate(PBLA) that is rapidly increased the amount of production of waste PET bottle recently, the quality of developed PBLA and the fundamental properties by analyzing of mortar containing with PBLA. After experiment, the result shows the PBLA quality that have oven dry specific gravity of 1.39, unit volume weight of 844 kg/m$^3$ and absorption rate of 0% is satisfied with qualify regulation of lightweight aggregate. The flowability of mortar containing PBLA is increased maximum 16% with increasing mixing ratio of PBLA, however the compressive strength of mortar is decreased maximum 35% with increasing mixing ratio of PBLA.

고준위 방사성폐기물 처분 기술개발 현황 (On the Research and Development for High Level Radioactive Waste Disposal in Korea)

  • The amount of the high level radioactive wastes in Korea will be increased up to 14,297 MTU about 2010 year. Most of countries adopt the concept of deep burial repository in high level radioactive waste disposal. Because the high level radioactive wastes are very toxic in biosphere and to human, the data verifing its never return to the biosphere are requisite for the disposal. Presently, the evaluating techniques for the high level radioactive waste disposal are not fully developed. Therefore, in order to dispose the high level radioactive wastes in proper time the R & D of it is urged in our country. The R & D and/or the international joint research programme for the disposal of high level wastes have already been proceeded. In our country no plan for its disposal has been prepared. It is the time that the direction of the R & D is to be discused seriously. The R & D for the disposal of high level radioactive wastes in Korea is believed to be focused on developing the pecular techniques such as in situ characteristics of groundwater flowage, and change of properties of in situ rock mass at thermal effects.

  • In order to recycle the incineration ash (bottom ash and fly ash) generated from the incineration of municipal waste for a cement material, salts as well as heavy metal should be removed by the stabilization treatment. Most of these heavy metal and over 80% of salts are removed by a washing as a pre-treatment. However, wastewater which is another pollutant is generated by a washing, then proper treatment should be developed. First the characteristics of incineration ashes collected from two domestic full-sized incinerators were investigated and removal rate of salts and heavy metals from them also studied. The wastewater quality was compared to the criteria of the regulation by analyzing the characteristics of generated wastewater during the washing of incineration ash as a condition of liquid/solid ratio. Also, we tried to used this experimental results for the basic data to develop proper processing technique of municipal waste.

  • Recently ocean environmental pollution becomes very serious, so each governmental organization slove this problem. As part of the policy, KRISO has investigated distribution condition at ocean waste. Acc\ulcorner we found that combustble waste consists of ropes, fishing nets, and tires. These are, however, highly polyme\ulcorner existing incicerators have many problems to treat these. In this study we want to pyrolyze highly polymerized \ulcorner data for a design of fule production system without second pollution. Through the thermogravimetic experiment characteristics of pyrolysis and obtained some preliminary results.
