This study is proposing a System Dynamics Model for estimating Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission from treating Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in South Korea for years 2000 to 2030. The government of country decided to decrease the total GHG emission from waste sector in 2030 as per Business-as-usual level. In context, four scenarios are generated to predict GHG emission from treating the MSW with three processes i.e., landfill, incineration and recycling. For prior step, MSW generation rate is projected for present and future case using population and waste generation per capita data. It is found that population and total MSW are directly correlated. The total population will increase to 56.27 million and total MSW will be 21.59 million tons in 2030. The methods for estimating GHG emission from landfill, incineration and recycling are adopted from IPCC, 2006 guidelines. The study indicates that Scenario 2 is best to adopt for decreasing the total GHG emission in future where recycling waste is increased to 75% and landfill waste is decreased to 7.6%. Lastly, it is concluded that choosing proper method for treating the MSW in country can result into savings of GHG emission.

With a recent public concern rising on the radioactive waste, it is disclosed that the problem is more serious than expected. This research has been conducted to find effects of yellow sandy rainwaters on the solidified cement of mid-and-low level radioactive waste. The ANS 16.1 standard test method was chosen for this leaching experiment. Make a cement solidified radioactive waste that contains Co nuclide, and fabricate it for over 28 days. Then, decide on the volume of leaching water and the concentration of ion and metal in leachate from the mass concentration of yellow sands in atmosphere. In this paper, we have taken a short look at characteristics of yellow sand. Before going into the leaching experiment, we decided experimental conditions first. Then, it was evaluated and analyzed how sandy rainfalls have impact on the cement solidified radioactive waste based on data from 90 days of leaching experiment.

Nuclear power plants (NPPs) produce radioactive waste and decommissioning this waste entails additional cost; determining these costs for various types and specifications of radioactive waste can be challenging. The purpose of this study is to identify major determinants of the decommissioning cost and their impact on NPPs. To this end, data from defunct NPPs were gathered and 2SLS (Two Stage Least Squares) regression models were developed to investigate the major contributors depending on the reactor types, viz. PWR (Pressurized Water Reactors) and BWR (Boiling Water Reactors). Additionally, cost estimations and the Monte Carlo simulation were performed as part of performance validation. Our study established that the decommissioning costs are primarily influenced by the level of radioactivity in the decommissioned waste, which can be realized from operational factors like operation period, overall efficiency, and plant capacity, as well as from duration of decommissioning and labour cost. While our study provides an improved statistical approach to recognize these factors, we acknowledge that our models have limitations in forecasting accurately which we envisage to bolster in future studies by identifying more substantive factors.
Purpose: The development of natural batik dyes based on a combination of coconut fiber waste and avocado leaves using the extraction method is important to support the green economy and reduce chemical waste in Indonesia. Research design, data and methodology: The research explores the use of coconut fiber and avocado leaf waste extraction as a natural batik dye and conducts market testing to assess consumer satisfaction. Results: Indonesian batik exports are growing, but synthetic dye practices are causing a decline in demand. To address this, natural dyes are being explored, including coconut fiber waste and avocado leaf waste. Conclusion: Test results from washing at 40 degrees Celsius in terms of color changes and color staining, from sweat in terms of changes in acid color and changes in base color, to sunlight in terms of color fastness value, to heat to iron in terms of color change and color staining shows a value of 3-4 (quite good) and 4-5 (good), meaning that coconut fiber and avocado leaves waste can be used as natural batik dye.
Since recycling waste glass as a material for concrete has a great advantage environmentally and economically, the US, Japan and other countries have started recycling waste glass widely and accumulating the technology of manufacturing equipment and its construction. However, there is no practical data on the mechanical property of concrete using waste glass. In this study, the mechanical property of the steel fiber reinforced concrete using waste glass was analyzed in terms of waste glass content(20vo1. %, 40vo1. % as a part of fine aggregate) and steel fiber content(0.5~ 1.5vol.%). The results of this study are as follows : The workability of the concrete including steel fiber and waste glass decreases, as the inclusion rate of waste glass and steel fiber increases. The tensile strength, flexural strength and flexural toughness of the concrete including waste glass increase considerably, as the inclusion rate of steel fiber increases. From the results, the appropriate inclusion rate of steel fiber and waste glass is thought to be 1.0vol. % and 20vo1. %, respectively.

The reductions in final waste form and material costs, which were induced from an introduction of salt waste regeneration system, have been estimated and compared with those of the present pyrochemical process, which is under development in KAERI. The results calculated on the basis of published data and proper assumption showed that the final waste form of LiCl waste from the Advanced Conditioning Process would be reduced about 3.7 to#ton HM (from 5.4 to 1.7 ton/ton HM). For the case of LiCl-KCl eutectic salt waste from the electro-refining process, the final waste form would be reduced 2.3 ton/ton U. Thus, these estimation suggested that the introduction of salt waste regeneration system was essential to improve the economical efficiency of the pyrochemical process.

For the safe transportation of SNF and licensing, the integrity of SNF should be evaluated carefully. Researches to obtain the data for SNF cladding properties, i.e. impact toughness, DBTT (hydride behavior) when evaluating transportation of SNF, shall be precisely implemented by simulating the condition of real SNF to the hilt, accordingly.

The spectroscopic reference data for plutonium at different temperatures are necessary information for the chemical speciation and evaluation of thermodynamic data at elevated temperature. This work is the initial step to extend research activities for understanding the plutonium chemistry in aquatic solutions at high temperature. The hydrolysis of Pu(III) and the solubility of Pu(III) hydroxide at the elevated temperature will be discussed.
Gravity and magnetic surveys were carried out to investigate the three-dimensional configuration and characteristics of the landfills at Nanjido waste disposal site. For terrain correction and three-dimensional density inversion of gravity data an algorithm, which calculates the gravity effect of a three-dimensional body by using the solid angle method, is developed. This algorithm has been proved to give more accurate terrain correction values for the small survey area having varied topography like Nanjido site as compared with widely used methods such as Hammer's method and multiquadric equation method. Density inversion of gravity anomaly data gives very useful information about the lateral and vertical variation of the landfills, which can be used to discriminate the kinds of wastes. The average density of filled materials appears to be $1.7\;g/cm^3$ which is much higher than the value $(0.8\;g/cm^3)$ estimated by Seoul City. The lateral variation of density shows high correlation with the pattern of ongoing depression of the landfills. The northern region of the landfill no. 1, which shows low density and high depression, is closely associated with the industrial waste and sludge filled area. The magnetic anomaly data provide information about relative concentration of magnetic materials, which is also very useful to investigate characteristics of the fills. Several high positive anomaly regions on the reduced-to-pole magnetic anomaly map are appeared to be associated with the industrial waste fills, but certain industrial waste fills show low negative anomalies. This kind of magnetic information can be used in selecting drilling locations over landfills away from buried metal products during the stabilization process.
This study focuses on evaluating and comparing residents' acceptance of unutilized heat such as hydrothermal energy and waste heat from waste incineration and data centers in the case that they are used as district heat sources. This is because securing residents' acceptance is significantly important in order for unutilized heat to be considered as a heat source of district heating and cooling to achieve neutrality in the heating and cooling sector. A survey of heating consumers' perception on unutilized heat energy is conducted and a conjoint model is used to analyze the willingness to pay of heating consumers on incineration heat, water heat, and data center waste heat and to compare them with existing gas heat sources. As a result of the analysis, it is confirmed that district heating using hydrothermal energy and data center waste heat is preferred to district heating from heat from a natural gas plant or waste incineration.
