To place concrete overlays has become a standard application in the strengthening and rehabilitation of concrete structures such as bridges, tunnels, parking decks and industrial buildings. In general, connectors are used to ensure a monolithic behavior of the two concrete layers. Within the framework of the development of a new connector wedge splitting tests and shear tests were performed, in addition nonlinear finite element analyses were applied to investigate the load transfer behavior of the connectors for different prototypes. The numerical simulation results were compared to experimental data. The computed load-displacement curve demonstrates good correspondence with the curves obtained in the experiments, and the experimental crack patterns are reasonably simulated by the computed crack propagation. Both numerical and experimental investigations on the wedge splitting test and on the shear test served as basis for the development of new type of connectors.

We have developed a tool that uses finite element analysis (FEA) to rapidly evaluate a shaft-bearing system of machine tools. We extracted commercial data on suitable clamping units and defined the inner profile of the shaft to avoid needing direct user input to define the profile. We use a splitting algorithm to convert the shaft into beam elements with two diameters and length. To validate the tool, we used it to design and evaluate a shaft-bearing system and found that our tool automated the construction of an FE system model in a commercial FEA package as well as the static stiffness evaluation; both tasks were completed in seconds, demonstrating a significant reduction from the minutes normally required to complete these tasks manually.

The trend in naming genera based almost exclusively on molecular data, and not on morphological diagnostic characters, is increasing. In bifurcating phylogenetic trees generic cut-offs are arbitrary, but at the bare minimum nomenclatural changes should be supported by multiple phylogenetic methodologies using appropriate models for all the various gene partitions, strong support with all branch support methods, and should also result in adding to our knowledge of the interrelationships of taxa. We believe that a recent taxonomic treatment of the genus Pyropia (Yang et al. 2020) into several genera is unwarranted. We reanalysed the data presented in the recent article, using additional phylogenetic methods. Our results show that many of the newly established genera are not well supported by all methods, and the new circumscription of the genus Pyropia renders it unsupported. We also tested additional outgroups, which were previously suggested as sister to Pyropia, but this did not substantially change our conclusions. These generic nomenclatural changes of the previously strongly supported genus Pyropia, do not shed light on the evolution of this group and have serious consequences in these commercially important algae, that are also governed by a plethora of regulation and by-laws that now need to be amended. We suggest that the over-splitting of groups based only on poorly produced and modestly supported phylogenies should not be accepted and that the genus Pyropia sensu Sutherland et al. (2011) be restored.

Digitization and automation technologies have rapidly maximized productivity and efficiency in all industries over the past few decades. Construction automation technology has either stagnated over the same period or has not kept pace with overall economic productivity. According to the research studies up to now, the output of concrete structures using coarse aggregates (8mm or more) is very limited due to the limitations of equipment and materials. In this study, information on the development process of 3DCP equipment that can print concrete structures with the printing width (100 mm or more) and printing thickness (30 mm or more) using a 3DCP material mixed with coarse aggregate (8 mm or more) is provided. To verify the performance of the developed 3DCP equipment, experimental data are provided on output variables, the number of layers, and the inter-layer printing time interval. The evaluation and verification data of various mechanical properties (compressive and splitting tensile strength) of printed materials using coarse aggregates are provided.

This paper develops a consistent nonparametric test for Granger causality in the context of strong-mixing process, which covers a large class of stationary processes including ARMA and ARCH models. The previously proposed tests require absolute regularity ($\beta$-mixing) more stringent than the strong-mixing condition. We prove the consistency of the test under a high level assumption on the approximation error of U statistic by its projection. Due to the sample splitting, the test statistic we propose is asymptotically normally distributed under the null.

In this paper, we propose a smoothed received signal strength indicator (RSSI)-based distance estimation using deep neural network (DNN) for accurate distance estimation in an environment where a single receiver is used. The proposed scheme performs a data preprocessing consisting of data splitting, missing value imputation, and smoothing steps to improve distance estimation accuracy, thereby deriving the smoothed RSSI values. The derived smoothed RSSI values are used as input data of the Multi-Input Single-Output (MISO) DNN model, and are finally returned as an estimated distance in the output layer through input layer and hidden layer. To verify the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compared the performance of the proposed scheme with that of the linear regression-based distance estimation scheme. As a result, the proposed scheme showed 29.09% higher distance estimation accuracy than the linear regression-based distance estimation scheme.
This paper presents a right management scheme using secret splitting protocol. Right management schemes combat piracy of proprietary data (such as digital music). In these schemes, encryption has been used and it is essential to protect the keys used in encryption. We introduce a new key protection method in which a secret encryption key is generated using both user's hardware-dependent unique information (such as MAC address) and cryptographically secure random bit strings provided by data owner. This scheme prevents piracy by checking hardware-dependent information during rendering and improves the secrecy of the data by individualizing the encryption key for each data.

Recently, energy harvesting, in which energy is collected from RF signals, has been regarded as a promising technology to improve the lifetime of sensors by alleviating the lack of power supply problem. In this paper, we try to propose an efficient algorithm for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer. At first, we find the lower bound of water-level using the probability density function of channel, and derive the solution of power allocation in energy harvesting networks. In addition, we derive an efficient power splitting method for satisfying the minimum required harvested energy constraint. The simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme improves the average data rate while guaranteeing the minimum required harvested energy constraint, compared with the conventional scheme. In addition, the proposed algorithm can reduce the computational complexity remarkably with insignificant performance degradation less than 10%, compared to the optimal solution.
Visualizing a volume dataset with ray-casting which of visualization methods provides high quality image. However it spends too much time for rendering because the size of volume data are huge. Recently, various researches have been proposed to accelerate GPU-based volume rendering to solve these problems. In this paper, we propose an efficient GPU-based empty space skipping to accelerate volume ray-casting using octree traversal. This method creates min-max octree and searches empty space using vertex splitting. It minimizes the bounding polyhedron by eliminating empty space found in the octree traveral step. The rendering results of our method are identical to those of previous GPU-based volume ray-casting, with the advantage of faster run-time because of using minimized bounding polyhedron.

The discretization algorithms for continuous data have been actively studied in the area of data mining. These discretizations are very important in data analysis, especially for efficient model selection in data mining. So, in this paper, we introduce the principles of some mutiway discretization algorithms including KEX, 1R and CN4 algorithm and investigate the efficiency of these algorithms through numerical study. For various underlying distribution, we compare these algorithms in view of misclassification rate.
