  • The rapid growth of sense-and-respond applications and the emerging cloud computing model present a new challenge: providing publish/subscribe middleware as a scalable and elastic cloud service. The publish/subscribe interaction model is a promising solution for scalable data dissemination over wide-area networks. In addition, there have been some work on the publish/subscribe messaging paradigm that guarantees reliability and availability in the face of node and link failures. These publish/subscribe systems are commonly used in information-centric networks and edge-fog-cloud infrastructures for IoT. The IoT has an edge-fog cloud infrastructure to efficiently process massive amounts of sensing data collected from the surrounding environment. In this paper. we propose a quorum-based hierarchical fault-tolerant publish/subscribe systems (QHFPS) to enable reliable delivery of messages in the presence of link and node failures. The QHFPS efficiently distributes IoT messages to the publish/subscribe brokers in fog overlay layers on the basis of proposing extended stepped grid (xS-grid) quorum for providing tolerance when faced with node failures and network partitions. We evaluate the performance of QHFPS in three aspects: number of transmitted Pub/Sub messages, average subscription delay, and subscritpion delivery rate with an analytical model.

  • The study aims to determine the influencing factors and their impact on the management of the forest land used for production allotted to peasant households and proposes solutions to improve its management. Secondary data was calculated until the end of 2019 at state agencies. The primary data was collected through 2 steps. To determine the factors influencing forest land management for production, step one involved a survey of 100 households that were given access to forest land. Step 2 involved a survey of 215 households to determine how factors impacted the Likert scale's five levels. The study also used a multivariate regression model and SPSS24.0 software to determine the impact rates of factor groups. The study indicated 43 factors that belong to 11-factor groups affecting the management of forest land for production. The policy and legal factors group is the most influential, with an impact rate of 12.72%, followed by 10 other factor groups with impact rates ranging from 4.08% to 11.74%. The solutions include improving policies and laws, strengthening the dissemination of policies and laws; encouraging investment, completing cadastral work, intensifying inspection, examination, and sanctioning of administrative violations of land, upgrading the infrastructure system, and ensuring enough human resources to manage forest land.

  • In an attempt to disseminate modernized Korean traditional housing (Hanok), a ten-year research project was initiated in 2010 by the Korean Government to reduce the construction cost, improve the facility performance, and automate the Hanok construction industry. To meet these objectives, various research areas, including public policies, planning methods, design standards, new building materials, construction standards, maintenance procedures, advanced project management tools, and integrated IT applications have been developed. In addition, comprehensive technologies developed were applied to the ten pilot Hanok buildings to validate the real-world performance as part of the research project. To further facilitate the digital transformation of the Hanok industry by using the research results, it is required to disseminate the developed technologies in an automated and standardized manner. In particular, it is crucial to systematize and manage the interoperability of various technical data and accumulated historical data for different business functions, especially within the highly fragmented industry. In this context, this paper proposes an ontology-based Hanok information dissemination platform to enable industry-wide automated knowledge and information sharing. The system architecture, standardized historical database, and advanced analytics based on ontology web language (OWL) for the Hanok industrialization platform are introduced.

  • This study analyzed the management efficiency of jujube, bitter persimmon, and chestnut farms using data envelopment analysis (DEA). And this study analyzed causes affecting management inefficiency of those farms using the two-step method. The main findings are as follows. First, as self and employment labor costs are increased, it is important to reduce labor costs which account for 60~70% of the total production cost. Second, efforts to improve management efficiency are needed as overall efficiency of farms were decreased. Third, a pesticide cost per 10a representing a level of pesticide had a negative effect or did not have a statistically significant effect on the management efficiency. This implies that expanding environment-friendly production by reducing pesticides is effective for improving the management efficiency. Fourth, as leading farms were more efficient than general farms, technology dissemination and education through leading farms are important for improving efficiency, and efforts are needed to promote exchange between leading and general farms.

  • As the demands for traditional Korean housing has been increased in recent years, modernized Korean traditional housing (Hanok) was developed as a way of providing Hanok for the public. Modernized Hanok attempts to remedy the shortcomings of the traditional hanok (i.e., high unit cost of building and low energy performance). In the previous researches, standardization and productivity improvement for modernized Hanok dissemination have been intensely developed. Above all, cost estimating for modernized Hanok is also an important factor. In an effort to provide effective system for Hanok construction, this paper developed 'standard cost data' for modernized Hanok. Distinct characteristic of modernized Hanok construction were analyzed first. Then, basic structure was identified, and major items were selected for Hanok standard cost data. However, this set of cost data was developed based on two mock-up Hanok projects actually constructed. Accordingly, this standard cost data will be further updated and modified by continuously accumulating real-world Hanok projects

  • Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI), the world-first ocean remote sensing instrument on geostationary Communication, Ocean, Meteorological Satellite (COMS), will be able to take a picture of a large region several times a day (almost with every one hour interval). We, KORDI, are in charge for developing the GOCI data processing system (GDPS) which is the basic software for processing the data from GOCI. The GDPS will be based on windows operating system to produce the GOCI level 2 data products (useful for oceanographic environmental analysis) automatically in real-time mode. Also, the GDPS will be a user-interactive program by well-organized graphical user interfaces for data processing and visualization. Its products will be the chlorophyll concentration, amount of total suspended sediments (TSS), colored dissolved organic matters (CDOM) and red tide from water leaving radiance or remote sensing reflectance. In addition, the GDPS will be able to produce daily products such as water current vector, primary productivity, water quality categorization, vegetation index, using individual observation data composed from several subscenes provided by GOCI for each slit within the target area. The resulting GOCI level 2 data will be disseminated through LRIT using satellite dissemination system and through online request and download systems. This software is carefully designed and implemented, and will be tested by sub-contractual company until the end of this year. It will need to be updated in effect with respect to new/improved algorithms and the calibration/validation activities.

  • Official statistics which are collected for governments and the community can be used to assess the effectiveness of governments' policies and programs. Thus, official statistics should be collected and presented based on correct findings. Erroneous official statistics will lead to lower quality results in assessing those policies and programs. Many statistical agencies, today, use on-line analytical processing (OLAP) data cubes which support OLAP tasks like aggregation and subtotals as a key part of their dissemination strategy of official statistics. Confidentiality protection in data cubes also should be made. However, sensitive parts of data cubes including micro data may be disclosed by malicious inferences. The authors have suggested an inference control process in OLAP data cubes which preventing erroneous cube creating and securing cubes against privacy breaches. The objective of this study is to establish a strategy for inference control of official statistics using the inference control process by taking the case of the Patent Application Expense Support Project.

  • Publish-subscribe communication model is popular for various type of distributed applications because of its loosely coupled style connections. Among the various architecture style for publish-subscribe system, peer-to-peer architecture has been used for the mission critical application domain since it provides high scalability and real-timeness. On the other hand, to utilize the bandwidth of given networks, message filtering is frequently used to reduce the number of messages on the system. Even if P2P provides superior scalability, it is hard to apply filtering to the its messaging system because the filtering process should be done on the peer-side in P2P architecture that are usually done on the broker server in conventional pub/sub architecture. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical subscription management structure as well as message forwarding scheme for efficient data dissemination. Our proposed scheme reduces the number of received messages by filter-out un-wanted messages and offloading the message dissemination work to other subscribers to enhance the messaging throughput.

  • In this paper, we introduce a novel mobility model for mobile sinks in which the sinks move towards randomly distributed destinations, where each destination is associated with a mission. The novel mobility model is termed the random mobility with destinations. There have been many studies on mobile sinks; however, they merely support two extreme cases of sink mobility. The first case features the most common and general mobility, with the sinks moving randomly, unpredictably, and inartificially. The other case takes into account mobility only along predefined or determined paths such that the sinks can gather data from sensor nodes with minimum overhead. Unfortunately, these studies for the common mobility and predefined path mobility might not suit for supporting the random mobility with destinations. In order to support random mobility with destination, we propose a new protocol, in which the source nodes send their data to the next movement path of a mobile sink. To implement the proposed protocol, we first present a mechanism for predicting the next movement path of a mobile sink based on its previous movement path. With the information about predicted movement path included in a query packet, we further present a mechanism that source nodes send energy-efficiently their data along the next movement path before arriving of the mobile sink. Last, we present mechanisms for compensating the difference between the predicted movement path and the real movement path and for relaying the delayed data after arriving of the mobile sink on the next movement path, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol achieves better performance than the existing protocols.

  • Sensor network is used to obtain sensing data in various area. The interval to sense the events depends on the type of target application and the amounts of data generated by sensor nodes are not constant. Many applications exploit long sensing interval to enhance the life time of network but there are specific applications that requires very short interval to obtain fine-grained, high-precision sensing data. If the number of nodes in the network is increased and the interval to sense data is shortened, the amounts of generated data are greatly increased and this leads to increased amount of packets to transfer to the network. To transfer large amount of packets fast, it is necessary that the delay between successive packet transmissions should be minimized as possible. In Sensor network, since the Operating Systems are worked on the event driven, the Timer Event is used to transfer packets successively. However, since the transferring time of packet completely is varies very much, it is very hard to set appropriate interval. The longer the interval, the higher the delay and the shorter the delay, the larger the fail of transfer request. In this paper, we propose ESTEO which reduces the delay between successive packet transmissions by using SendDone Event which informs that a packet transmission has been completed. In ESTEO, the delay between successive packet transmissions is shortened very much since the transmission of next packet starts at the time when the transmission of previous packet has completed, irrespective of the transmission timee. Therefore ESTEO could provide high packet transmission rate given large amount of packets.
