  • A Macroscopic combination of two or more distinct materials is commonly referred to as a "Composite Material", having been designed mechanically and chemically superior in function and characteristic than its individual constituent materials. Composite materials are used not only for aerospace and military, but also heavily used in boat/ship building and general composite industries which we are seeing increasingly more. Regardless of the various applications for composite materials, the industry is still limited and requires better fabrication technology and methodology in order to expand and grow. An example of this is that the majority of fabrication facilities nearby still use an antiquated wet lay-up process where fabrication still requires manual hand labor in a 3D environment impeding productivity of composite product design advancement. As an expert in the advanced composites field, I have developed fabrication skills with the use of machinery based on my past composite experience. In autumn 2011, the Korea government confirmed to fund my project. It is the development of a composite sanding machine. I began development of this semi-robotic prototype beginning in 2009. It has possibilities of replacing or augmenting the exhaustive and difficult jobs performed by human hands, such as sanding, grinding, blasting, and polishing in most often, very awkward conditions, and is also will boost productivity, improve surface quality, cut abrasive costs, eliminate vibration injuries, and protect workers from exposure to dust and airborne contamination. Ease of control and operation of the equipment in or outside of the sanding room is a key benefit to end-users. It will prove to be much more economical than normal robotics and minimize errors that commonly occur in factories. The key components and their technologies are a 360 degree rotational shoulder and a wrist that is controlled under PLC controller and joystick manual mode. Development on both of the key modules is complete and are now operational. The Korean government fund boosted my development and I expect to complete full scale development no later than 3rd quarter 2012. Even with the advantages of composite materials, there is still the need to repair or to maintain composite products with a higher level of technology. I have learned many composite repair skills on composite airframe since many composite fabrication skills including repair, requires training for non aerospace applications. The wind energy market is now requiring much larger blades in order to generate more electrical energy for wind farms. One single blade is commonly 50 meters or longer now. When a wind blade becomes damaged from external forces, on-site repair is required on the columns even under strong wind and freezing temperature conditions. In order to correctly obtain polymerization, the repair must be performed on the damaged area within a very limited time. The use of pre-impregnated glass fabric and heating silicone pad and a hot bonder acting precise heating control are surely required.

  • In order to propose effective conservation management plan, this study verified ecological characteristics, humanities and Social characteristics. The research site is private property which is owned belonging to the Kim's of Gimhae that have long history. The study site is more than a thousand years old and was created for protecting from typhoon. There held the religious ritual what is called Dongsinje until 1960s. There have been protected and managed by the villagers. As the results of analysis, the area of windbreak are $12,392.69m^2$. The windbreak is dominated old years deciduous broad-leaved tree such as Zelkova serrata, Celtis sinensis, Aphananthe aspera. Around there were farmlands(52.1%), urbanized area(26.3%), forest area(16.6%). The vegetation communities of windbreak were classified by considering the dominant species and current status of forest. The forest types are following as; A. aspera community(I) which is using less pressure, Platycarya strobilacea-Carpinus coreana-Z. serrata community(II). Z. serrata community(III) which is using high pressure, Z. serrata-A. aspera community(IV), Z. serrata community(V) which is damaged under canopy trees. The windbreak was in good condition whereas, there were concerns the some wrong status was being undermined such as the wrong forest restoration projects in the past, the trails that is penetrating inside the forest, building up education facilities. Therefore, in order to restore the value of windbreak what is so called Suwol forest, we should improve the problems of forest ecosystem such as wrong management, forest fragmentation by facilities and decline in forest by lack of growing the next generation trees. In addition, we should remove excessive resting facilities and lead to passive use of forest. to improve the way of wrong management, moreover, we should close off he trails that is penetrating inside the forest for improving fragmentation. We should restore vegetation restoration and fostering the next generation trees for forest ecosystem. In order to restore unique of histo-cultural and ecological forest landscape, the next generation trees should be grown up that is the dominant species in Suwol forest. Moreover, as a results of comparing the between good vegetation communities and damaged vegetation communities, it is necessary to complementary planting for demeged vegetation communities, therefore there needs to 10.8 under canopy trees, 79.7 shrubs.

  • For the purpose of recording Folk House Garden, this study was to review the historical value, location, space composition, Placememnt of the Building, garden composition, and management status of Folk House Garden designated as a cultural asset in Jeolla-do and to promote continuous maintenance and preservation in the future and enhance its value. The results of the study are as follows. First, most of them have been influenced by the trend of the times, such as the creation of a modern private garden and the spread of agricultural and commercial development through the garden components influenced by the royal, Japanese, and Western styles. Second, there are differences in the spatial composition of private households and the way they handle sponsorship, depending on the geographical location. When the geographical features were divided into flat and sloping areas, private houses located on flat land were divided into walls, walls were placed around the support area, and flower systems and stone blocks were created. The private houses located on the slope were divided into two to three tiers of space, and the wooden plant, flower bed, and stone bed were naturally connected to the background forest without creating a wall at the rear hill. Third, the size of the house and the elements of the garden have been partially destroyed, damaged, and changed, and if there is a lack of records of the change process, there is a limit to the drawing floor plan. There were many buildings and garden components that were lost or damaged due to changes in the trend and demand of the times, and some of them without records had to rely on the memory of owners and managers. Fourth, the species in Warm Temperate Zone, which reflects the climatic characteristics of Jeolla-do, was produced, and many of the exotic species, not traditional ones, were introduced. Fifth, fine-grained tree management standards are needed to prepare for changes in spatial function and plant species considering modern convenience.

  • Since many accidents have occurred in Korea in these days, many people have lost their health and have been damaged. The damages caused by fires which occur to many buildings where many people always reside takes a substantial share of the total damages. And since the proportions of the domestic fire protection designing/supervising industries are relatively much disregarded compared to other kinds of work, it is in the situation that there are many cases of serious damages because the fire protection equipment didn't exert the proper functions on fire after a building is constructed since the supervision against the poor construction along with the inadequate design. In order to improve such situations, in case of the design industry, the criteria on registration and workforce placement, the scope of operation, the design documents required when requesting the agreement to the construction permits, the responsibilities and authorities about the jobs of the fire protection facility designers must be improved and, in case of supervising industry, the registration criteria, the operation scope and the kinds, methods, targets and criteria of supervision, the criteria on the additional placement of assistant supervisors, the contents and scope of work must be improved, the PQ system and Public Supervision System must be reviewed and the systems for preventing any poor supervision must be improved in order to pursue the security of the people and their properties at the same level as the other kinds of work by preparing for the firm position and foundation of the fire protection design and supervision.

  • Radon is produced after the Uranium-238 and thorium-232 undergone radioactive decay process is a colorless, odorless inert gas is stored in a basement or an enclosed space. Building materials are made by a rock or soil materials. Form of radon gas is introduced into the lungs through the respiratory tract and deposited in the lungs or bronchial Daughter nuclides radon causes lung cancer. In this study, To subject the Constructed Apartment in Gwangju Gwangsan-Gu, the position is closed window and opened window was measured using a measuring instrument for radon. The measured results indicate that the measurement was carried out in concentrations of radon gas measured at Newly Constructed Apartment is low than United states in the radon concentration in air public 4 pCi called radon gas baseline maximum allowable concentrations. The exposure caused by radon concentration of new construction apartment when on the measurement results is expected to be insignificant. However, when radon gas like this is that it accumulates in the body and lungs get damaged due to exposure, such as lung cancer often open the windows to reduce the radon concentration measurements, such as in radiation protection aspects to the ventilation to reduce exposure it is considered necessary.

  • This study investigates three buildings arranged alongside at the same level, namely, the Josadang, the Buljojeon, and the Palsangjeon. Their backside is blocked by an embankment with an environmental condition unsuitable for wooden buildings. The pillar behind the Josadang had termite damage for which termite damage and environmental investigations had been conducted for the past four years. The termite damage was monitored four times using the termite detection dogs, and the environmental factors were surveyed 27 times, except during the winter season. As a result, the locations of the columns with a high frequency of responses from the termite detection dogs were found and damage was confirmed. According to the surface moisture content investigations, the surface moisture content was highest in the Josadang and lowest in the Buljojeon. After a statistical analysis, the mean, the median, and the mode values were compared. The difference between the mean and the median was found to be less, however, the mode varied significantly. The mode values of the Josadang and the Palsangjeon were 14.5% and 10.8%, respectively, higher than the 6.1% mode value of the Buljojeon. It was concluded that the temperature and the water content affected the termite damage, which increases if the temperature and the water content remain constant owing to the environmental factors.

  • Ground subsidence can result in the formation of sinkholes, potholes, settlement of structures, and road subsidence. Road subsidence is described as the sudden collapse of the road surface into subsurface cavities caused by the loss of bearing capacity in the ground, such as the dissolution of limestone by fluid flow in the surface causing the formation of voids leading to subsidence at the surface. Road subsidence occurs about 665 times annually, and this incidence has been increasing until 2013. Damaged underground facilities, management negligence, and lowering of the ground water table have been the causes of road subsidence in Seoul. Seoul metropolitan government announced special management counter plans to relieve the anxieties and make the roads safe for passing. Construction sites, such as excavation works, need to be managed properly because they have strong potential to induce road subsidence. The aim of this study was to identify the main causes of road subsidence and suggest management plans. First, life cycle cost analysis revealed the daytime construction to be more appropriate than nighttime. In addition, by analyzing the limitations of using sand as a backfill material, it is proposed to use a flowable backfill material instead of sand. Finally, to reduce the blind spots, which is a problem in surveying the road pavement conditions of local governments, the road to be managed is divided into several zones, and a specialized agency is selected for each zone and a method of surveying the blind spots through collaboration is suggested.

  • 70 percent of Korea's territory is covered with mountains, whose difficult conditions can cause damage to facilities. Recently, the demand for facilities related to outdoor activities including monorails has been on the rise, and such facilities are much more likely to become damaged. For this reason, a monitoring system applying IoT to mountainous areas was developed and its applicability is evaluated in this study. The current status of the existing mountainous facilities and monitoring systems were reviewed, and the current wired monitoring technology was analyzed. A scenario for IoT-based monitoring was developed, and then sensor nodes were developed, which include an RF-communication module and interface, power-supply and solar-cell. A testbed was set up at K University. The same data was collected by the wireless system as had been collected by the wired one. The study findings are as follows. Firstly, by using the wireless system, it is estimated that the construction duration can be reduced by about 25 percent, while the construction costs can be reduced by about 3~52 percent. Secondly, the safety of the construction workers can be improved by making the working conditions less dangerous, such as by eliminating the need to transport cables.

  • Fossil fuel is used all over the world and it produces greenhouse gases due to fossil fuel use. Therefore, it cause global warming and is serious environmental pollution. In order to decrease the environmental pollution, we should use renewable energy which is clean energy. Among several renewable energy, wind energy is the most promising one. Wind power generation is does not produce environmental pollution and could not be exhausted. However, due to wind power generation has irregular power output, it is important to predict generated electrical energy accurately for smoothing wind energy supply. There, we consider use ramp characteristic to forecast accurate wind power output. The ramp increase and decrease rapidly wind power generation during in a short time. Therefore, it can cause problem of unbalanced power supply and demand and get damaged wind turbine. In this paper, we make prediction models using power ramp rate as well as wind speed and wind direction to increase prediction accuracy. Prediction model construction algorithm used multilayer neural network. We built four prediction models with PRR, wind speed, and wind direction and then evaluated performance of prediction models. The predicted values, which is prediction model with all of attribute, is nearly to the observed values. Therefore, if we use PRR attribute, we can increase prediction accuracy of wind power generation.

  • Earthquakes are reported thai building structures have been colossal damaged, but before 1988 designed structures which were not applicate seismic design code have no seismic performance. Especially, for the apartment structures were indicated that it have no resist wall element of earthquake before 1988 designed structures. We have to evaluate for seismic performance this structures, therefore it will be retrofitted for seismic index sufficient structures. We performed seismic performance evaluation for model structures by MIDAS which is general structure analysis software. In this study, it was performed shaking table test to evaluate model structure which is reinforcement concrete and 5 floors for seismic performance index. We made specimens by similar's law and tested shaking table test. In the shaking table test it is not performed prototype model test because of space and equipment condition. So we had made scale-down model for 1/5 by similar's law. That's why it needs for the evaluation of performance. However, it is not possible to do an experiment of prototype owing to the shortage of space and the limit of an experimental instrument in the shaking table test. Then, modeling and reducing the part of prototype do the experiment. In this experiment a shaking table test is done and seismic performance of model structures is evaluated by using similitude laws for scale down specimen. As a result it is proved that non-seismic design structures need to retrofit since seismic performance shows life safe grade in 0.12g of an earthquake.
