  • The crane operation used fur transporting heavy loads causes a swinging motion with the loads due to the crane\`s acceleration and deceleration. This sway causes the suspension ropes to leave their grooves and can cause serious damage. Ideally, the purpose of a crane system is to transport loads to a goal position as soon as possible without any oscillation of the rope. Currently, cranes are generally operated based on expert knowledge alone, accordingly, the development of a satisfactory control method that can efficiently suppress object sway during transport is essential. The dynamic behavior of a crane shows nonlinear characteristics. When the length of the rope is changed, a crane becomes a time-varying system thus the design of an anti-sway controller is very difficult. In this paper, a nonlinear dynamic model is derived for an industrial overhead crane whose girder, trolley, and hoister move simultaneously. Furthermore, a fuzzy logic controller, based on expert experiments during acceleration, constant velocity, deceleration, and stop position periods is proposed to suppress the swing motion and control the position of the crane. Computer simulation is then used to test the performance of the fuzzy controller with the nonlinear crane model.

  • An automated storage and retrieval machinery for high rack warehouse systems is developed in order to stack the various kinds of productions. However, according to increase in the rack height, the long lead time should be taken. In stacker crane systems, the variations of the lifting height and the load generate the vibration of lifting machine, and it makes a Position control to be difficult Therefore, the reduction of vibration will be important factor for saving the lead time and the damage of Productions. This paper deals with a position control of stacker crane in automated high rack warehouse system by using a gain-scheduled control algorithm via a LMI method, where the variations of elastic coefficient of the stacker crane's post are considered.

  • The development of good quality small-diametered arthroscopes and refined arthroscopic techniques has contributed to the improvement of the subtalar arthroscopy. The therapeutic indications are synovectomy, removal of loose bodies, debridement and drilling of osteochondritis dissecans, excision of subtalar impingement lesions and osteophytes, lysis of adhesions for post-traumatic arthrofibrosis, removal of a symptomatic os trigonum, calcaneal fracture assessment and reduction, and arthroscopic arthrodesis of the subtalar joint. The subtalar arthroscopy can be done in supine position using thigh holder or in lateral decubitus position. The arthroscope generally used is a 2.7-mm 30 degrees short arthroscope. Noninvasive distraction with a strap around the hindfoot can be helpful. Usually anterolateral, middle and posterolateral portals are utilized for inspection and instrumentation within the joint. Twoportal posterior subtalar arthroscopy in prone position can be performed as well with 4.0-mm 30 degrees arthroscope, depending on the type and location of the subtalar pathology. The subtalar arthroscopy is a technically demanding procedure, which requires proper instrumentation and careful operative technique. Possible complications are nerve damage and persistent wound drainage.

  • Purpose: Muscle fatigue affects proprioception, and it causes problems in spinal stability. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect on the accuracy of reproducing the lumbar angles before lumbar exercise and after fatiguing isokinetic lumbar exercise. Methods: Thirty healthy adults participated in this study. Before induction of fatigue by exercise, the proprioception was measured by Biodex. Lumbar positions were passively maintained on stimulation position ($25^{\circ}$ flexion and $25^{\circ}$ extension), and back to the starting position. Subjects actively repositioned the remembered stimulation position, and error degrees between the stimulation position and reposition were measured. Using an isokinetic device at $120^{\circ}$/sec of velocity of angle lumbar flexion/extension exercise resulted in muscle fatigue. The post-fatigue proprioceptive position sense was used in the same way as in pre-fatigue measurement. Results: Means of position sense of pre-fatigue were $2.19{\pm}1.97$ on flexion angle, and $5.04{\pm}2.84$ on extension angle. After exercise induced fatigue, means of position sense were $2.37{\pm}1.83$ on flexion angle, and $4.93{\pm}2.57$ on extension angle. Results of this study showed significant differences of lumbar proprioceptive position sense between pre- and post-fatigue. Conclusion: Lumbar proprioception sense in active repositioning in flexion and extension was affected in the presence of muscle fatigue. Therefore, it should be noted that therapeutic exercise for patients with abnormal proprioceptive sense or elderly people must be performed with care because muscle fatigue can cause secondary damage.

  • Many failures have been reported in gas turbine facilities owing to repeated startups and prolonged use of the turbines. In this study, the causes and mechanism of fatigue failure in the first blade of a gas turbine were analyzed using a finite element method to calculate the centrifugal force, bending force, and a modal analysis based on the stress-stiffening effect and harmonic response under the operating conditions. The results show that, fatigue damage was caused by the resonance conditions encountered, in which the first natural frequency declined along with an increase in the metal temperature of the blade. The position of the expected fatigue damage was shown to match the actual position of the cracking at the root area of the blade, which was on the concave side. In addition, the equivalence fatigue stress was observed to approach the fatigue limit.

  • In the case of forest areas, the installation of ground control points (GCPs) and the selection of terrain features, which are one of the unmanned aerial photogrammetry work process, are limited compared to urban areas, and safety problems arise due to non-visible flight due to high forest. To compensate for this problem, the drone equipped with a real time kinematic (RTK) sensor that corrects the position of the drone in real time, and a 3D flight method that fly based on terrain information are being developed. This study suggests to present a method for investigating damage using drones in forest areas. Position accuracy evaluation was performed for three methods: 1) drone mapping through GCP measurement (normal mapping), 2) drone mapping based on topographic data (3D flight mapping), 3) drone mapping using RTK drone (RTK mapping), and all showed an accuracy within 2 cm in the horizontal and within 13 cm in the vertical position. After evaluating the position accuracy, the volume of the landslide area was calculated and the volume values were compared, and all showed similar values. Through this study, the possibility of utilizing 3D flight mapping and RTK mapping in forest areas was confirmed. In the future, it is expected that more effective damage investigations can be conducted if the three methods are appropriately used according to the conditions of area of the disaster.

  • This study analyzes stress, fatigue and vibration on main rotor and body of helicopter. The maximum stress is shown on adjoint part between body and main rotor at the lower position of main rotor. As the maximum displacement amplitude is happened at 4000Hz, there is no resonance and the state of helicopter becomes safe at hovering without the abnormal air current and the disabled rotor. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. In case of 'Sample History' with the average stress of 0MPa to $-10^5MPa$ and the amplitude stress of 0MPa to $8.539{\times}10^5MPa$, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 3%. This stress state can be shown with 5 times more than the damage possibility of 'SAE bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. The structural result of this study by using the analysis of vibration and fatigue can be effectively utilized for safe and durable design of helicopter.
