  • In the cost management of public construction projects, it is an important issue to develop an adequate cost data for estimating the predetermined amount by various methods. For a long time, a standard of estimation in korea is used as a basis for estimating the predetermined amount of public construction. However, they did not have a reasonable cost data based on a labor and equipment productivity analysis. For this reason, it is difficult to make a reasonable and efficient estimation of the costs, and this situation presents an urgent need for more accurate cost data to use in an early phase. This study analyzed the productivity of form work by the CYCLONE model, and presented the model on the number of optimal labor through sensitivity analysis. This CYCLONE model can be useful in analyzing productivity on the various sizes of form. Also, the regression model to estimate the daily output can be used in predicting the amount of labor. Considering the work duration in the regression model is expected to make the daily output estimation much more accurate.

  • This study uses the 12-21st waves of KLIPS to estimate the effect of the increase in the minimum wage on the individual's labor market transition through a multinomial logit. In particular, we examine whether there was an additional effect of the rapid increase in the minimum wage in 2018. The main results of this study are as follows. First, the increase in the minimum wage in Korea is found to have increased the probability of becoming unemployed for both wage workers and self-employed, but there is no additional impact found from the 2018 minimum wage increase. Second, the increase in the minimum wage is found to increase the likelihood of the self-employed entering into wage workers, especially temporary and daily workers. Third, we have found that the increase in the minimum wage in 2018 adversely affected self-employed people with high school education, and significantly lowered young wage workers entering into self-employed. Our results suggest that the recent increase in the minimum wage may be responsible for declining self-employment rate in Korea, and may have a negative effect on the quality of employment because the increase in minimum wage can lead to an increase in temporary and daily wage workers.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level and intensity of emotional labor of physical therapists and occupational therapists, and to identify the factors affecting them. Cross-sectional study was conducted on physical therapists and occupational therapists across the country using self-populated questionnaire. A total of 2,000 questionnaires were distributed to retrieve 1,500 questionnaires(75%), of which 1,374 questionnaires(68.7%) were finally analyzed, excluding 126 that answered duplicates or were missing answers. Multi-linear regression was performed to identify factors on the strength of emotional labor. According to the analysis results, high-risk groups in the areas under 'Emotional demand and regulation' and 'Overload and conflict in customer service' and 'Emotional disharmony and hurt' were 29.4%, 19.0% and 22.0% respectively, especially in 'Emotional demand and regulation', 'Overload and conflict in customer service', 'Emotional disharmony and hurt' for women working days, and 49% of daily work hours. Accordingly, we will be able to regularly screen physical therapists and occupational therapists for dangerous groups, and manage the intensity of emotional labor through the creation of a therapist's working environment, such as limiting overtime hours and assigning appropriate number of patients. Through this study, the grounds and methods for mitigating the negative effects of emotional labor and mediating emotional labor should be provided.

  • This study pays attention to the restricted use and the possibility of standard position of contingent workers in Brazil. The labor market of Brazil has been developed by formal and informal labor sector, and informal sector includes various precarious workers as well as contingent workers. According to Brazilian Statistics Department, not contingent workers but informal labor focused in this paper have been slowly decreased since year 2000. In this context, this study investigated on the reasons of decreasing contingent employment in Brazil. The results demonstrate that decreased informal employment and instead increased standard workers could not be interpreted by recent the Braizil's economic boom. Along with literature review, the author conducted the case study regarding employment of contingent workers at six large foreign companies in Sao Paulo. The results of this show that the use of contingent employment was prohibited in regular daily works by the labor law and thus firms employed contingent workers in only temporary positions. Further, firms often promise standard positions for contingent workers when temporary employment contract was terminated since there is little or no exist of the differences of wage between standard and contingent worker in terms of 'same work same wage' and 'minimum wage'. In here, labor unions play a key role in employment change from contingent position to standard job. Consequently, decreasing of contingent workers and stepping stone to regular jobs seems to be triggered by both legal regulation on contingent employment and strong unions. This institutional perspective may extend the theoretical view on the use of contingent workers, and the author discuss that Brazil's case could provide practical implications to Korean labor policy.

  • Building construction projects are performed by a number of sub-contractors specialized in diverse trades. Therefore information management among these constituents is quite challenging especially due to exponentially increasing manpower and material resources. In recognition of the importance of information management in project sites a number of systems have been suggested, but the application is limited one of the main reason is that general contractors use these systems and sub-contractor's participation understanding and financial ability are limited. Besides other problems such as loss along communication channel, distortion of information due to inefficient input device and tremendous amount of time and labor are required for collection analysis, and management of information to prepare a daily-report. Therefore the Purpose of this study is to improve reporting process through analyzing current daily reporting system. This paper also suggests the direction of the improved daily reporting system to enhance the performance of construction projects through incorporating sub-contractor's participation in daily reporting system.
