  • In this paper, very high performance millimeter-wave radiometer of 92 GHz is presented. Radiometer system design, brightness temperature measurement and calibration methods are described. The architecture of radiometer including data acquisition, storage and digital signal processing using a notebook computer are explained and some experimental data in the laboratory are introduced. The system noise figure and total gain of implemented radiometer are 12 dB and 56 dB, respectively. The system stability is evaluated from the experiment. The difference of the detector output voltage for two targets, whose brightness temperature are 80 K and 300K, is 4 mV. The mechanical scanning method is considered to get a brightness temperature Image of the earth surface scene.

  • This paper proposes the design and measurement of a 6-18 GHz front-end receiver module that has been combined into a one- channel output from a two-channel input for electronic warfare support measures (ESM) applications. This module includes a limiter, high-pass filter (HPF), power combiner, equalizer and amplifier. This paper focuses on the design aspects of reducing the noise figure (NF) and matching the phase and amplitude. The NF, linear equalizer, power divider, and HPF were considered in the design. A broadband receiver based on a combined configuration used to obtain low NF. We verify that our receiver module improves the noise figure by as much as 0.78 dB over measured data with a maximum of 5.54 dB over a 6-18 GHz bandwidth; the difference value of phase matching is within $7^{\circ}$ between ports.

  • N-path SC tracking filter is studied beyond the audio frequency range. First, the SC filter Cell which would determine total SC filter characteristics is analyzed by the two methods, charge equation method and difference equation method. Second, 4-path and 8-path SC filter are presented, including only capacitors and switches. Then, 4-path and 8-path SC tracking filter are constructed by conisting of SC filter block and PLL block. In this experiment, maximum response shift is confirmed. With respect to the capacitor ratios and the number of path, Q and Gain(dB) is considered. Also tracking range is measured.

  • The impact of optical receiver configuration on in-band crosstalk-induced penalty has been investigated in both theoretical and experimental analyses, for differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) and differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK) signals. Previously it has been shown that DPSK signals are ~6 dB more tolerant to in-band crosstalk than on-off keying (OOK) signals. However, we find that the tolerance difference between the two signals is reduced to ~3 dB when the decision threshold of the receiver is optimized to minimize the bit-error rate for each signal. Then we derive simple equations for the in-band crosstalk-induced penalty in DPSK and DQPSK signals with two different optical receiver configurations: balanced and single-ended direct-detection receivers. We confirm that the penalties obtained from our simple equations agree well with the measured results.

  • We propowe a variable block-size transform coding. The size of transform block is adapted by the activity of the block, If the activity is lower than the given threshold, then the block-size is enlarged. In this paper, we use the energy of the transformed cofficients with high frrequency instead of the block variance as the block activity. The computer simulation results show that the reconstruction image by the proposed activeity measure gives superior picture quality to that by the block variance and the mean absolute difference.

  • Silica slab wavegudie was fabricated on Si substrates by FHD for planar optical passive devices. The slab waveguide consists of lower clad and core layers, where core layer index is controlled by GeO2 addition. Doping of GeO2 in silica is difficult because of the low deposition density due to nonspherical particle generation in FHD process. Silica core particles deposited at various conditions such as flame temperature and substrate scanning were analyzed by SEM and TEM. As the flame temperature increased, the surface roughness of the core layer was decreased up to 3.6 nm after consolidation. Index difference and thickness of core of slab waveguide were 0.3%, 8$\mu\textrm{m}$ respectively. Measured optical loss at TE mode was <0.04 dB/cm at 1.3$\mu\textrm{m}$ and <0.06 dB/cm at 1.55$\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • This paper presets a results of frequency response in variation of wire bonding length. A gold ball bonding is used as a wire bonding process, and a DPDT(double pole double thru) switch is adapted as a device for test. Wire length is ranged from 442um to 833um and a measured frequency range is from 1 GHz to 6 GHz. Little difference are measured in insertion loss and return loss depending on wire length. Measured S21 and S11 are -0.58 dB and -17.7 dB, respectively. S21 insertion loss is rising up and S11 insertion loss is falling down as the frequency is increased.

  • A new feeding method for the circular polarization (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is proposed in this letter. Two orthogonal modes (${TE^x}_{{\delta}11}$, ${TE^y}_{1{\delta}1$) of the rectangular DRA are excited by a $90^{\circ}$ phase difference of the differential and common modes currents of the proposed feeding structure. To demonstrate the good CP performance of the proposed method, a right-hand CP DRA for a global positioning system was designed. The impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna for $S_{11}$ < -10 dB and 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth are about 5.4% and 1.95% at 1.57 GHz, respectively.

  • Theories for composite material structures are too difficult for such design engineers for construction and some simple but accurate enough methods are necessary. The author has reported that some laminate orientations have decreasing values of $D_{16}$, $B_{16}$, $D_{26}$ and $B_{26}$ stiffnesses as the ply number increases. For such plates, the fiber orientations given above behave as specially orthotropic plates and simple formulas developed by the author. Most of the bridge deck structures on girders have large aspect ratios. For such cases further simplification is possible by neglecting the effect of the longitudinal moment terms $M_x$ on the relevant partial differential equations of equilibrium. In this paper, the result of the study on the subject problem is presented.

  • Our present study was performed to investigate acoustically the Chines normal adults' voices. 60 Chines normal adults (30 males and 30 females) of the age of 20 to 39 years oridyced systained vowel /a/ and, by analyzing them acoustically with Dr. Speech, we could get the fundamental frequency (Fo), jitter, shimmer, NNE. As results, on the average, male voices showed 1I8.1Hz in Fo, 0.186% in jitter, 1.12% in shimmer, and -13.7dB in NNE. And, female voices showed 252.4Hz in Fo, 0.186% in jitter, 0.81% in shimmer, and -1I.3dB in NNE. Every parameter except Fo showed no significant difference between male and female voices.
