A one-dimensional site response analysis program (KODSAP) was developed using cyclic soil behavior model by using the modified parallel IWAN model. The model is able to predict the cyclic hardening and degradation of soil through the adjustment of the internal slip stresses of its elements beyond the cyclic threshold, and satisfies Bauschinger's effect and the Masing rule in terms of its own behavior characteristics. The program (KODSAP) used the direct integration method in the time domain. The elasticity of the base rock was considered as a viscous damper boundary condition. The effects of cyclic hardening or degradation of soil on site response analysis were evaluated through parametric studies. Three types of analyses were performed to compare the effect of analysis and cyclic parameter on site response. The first type was equivalent linear analysis, the second was nonlinear analysis, and a third was nonlinear analysis using the cyclic hardening or degradation model.
The thermal degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate-co-isophthalate)s (PETIs) is investigated by using isothermal thermogravimetric analysis at the temperature range of 280-31$0^{\circ}C$. The degradation rate of PETIs is increased as the mole ratio of ethylene isophthaloyl (EI) units in PETIs increases. The activation energies for the thermal degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate), PETI(5/5), and poly(ethylene isophthalate) are 33.4, 16.6, and 8.9 kcal/mole, respectively. The degradation rate of PETIs is influenced by their volatile cyclic oligomer components formed during the polymerization and the thermal degradation. It is simulated by the rotational isomeric state model that the content of cyclic dimer in PETIs, which is the most volatile cyclic oligomer component, increases with the EI units in PETIs.
This article analyzed the modulus degradation of concrete subjected to multi-level compressive cyclic loading. The evolution of secant elastic modulus is investigated based on measurements from top loading platen and LVDT in the middle part of concrete. The difference value of the two secant elastic moduli is reduced when close to failure and could be used as a fatigue failure precursor. The fatigue hardening is observed for concrete during cyclic loading. When the maximum stress is smaller the fatigue hardening is more obvious. The slight increase of maximum stress will lead to the "periodic hardening". The tangent elastic modulus shows a specific "bowknot" shape during cyclic loading, which can characterize the hysteresis of stress-strain and is influenced by the cyclic loading stresses. The deterioration of secant elastic modulus acts a similar role with respect to the P-wave speed during cyclic loading, can both characterize the degradation of the concrete properties.

The degradation mechanisms of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) were investigated in different thermal fatigue condition in terms of microstructural analyses. The isothermal and cyclic oxidation tests were conducted to atmospheric plasma sprayed-TBCs on NIMONIC 263 substrates. The delamination occurred by the oxide layer formation at the interface, the Ni/Cr-based oxide was formed after Al-based oxide layer grew up to ${\sim}10{\mu}m$ in the isothermal condition. In the cyclic oxidation with dwell time, the failure occurred earlier (500 hr) than in the isothermal oxidation (900 hr) at same temperature. The thickness of Al-based oxide layer of the delaminated specimen in the cyclic condition was ${\sim}4{\mu}m$ and the interfacial cracks were observed. The acoustic emission method revealed that the cracks generated during the cooling step. It was considered that the specimens were prevented from the formation of the Al-based oxide by cooling treatment, and the degradation mode in the cyclic test was dominantly interfacial cracking by the difference of thermal expansion coefficients of the coating layers.

Recently, large efforts have been made to develop and understand the behavior of Fiber Reinforced Concrete. As in the static loading cases, many researches have been done. However, a few studies have been conducted in cyclic behaviors of FRC. The main objective of the present work is to investigate the cyclic behavior of fiber reinforced concrete with theoretical method. First, cyclic constitutive relations which describe the crack bridging stress considering non-uniform interfacial bond degradation in short randomly oriented fiber reinforced matrix composites under uniaxial cyclic tension were considered. A cyclic degradation model of single fiber based on micromechanics also taken into consideration. As an example, fatigue analysis for ECC with PVA fiber was conducted using proposed equations. Results shows that proposed method can establish a basis for analyzing cyclic behavior of fiber reinforced composites.
The anticorrosive performance of epoxy coating was examined by using the hygrothermal cyclic test and the degradation mechanism of the coating was investigated by using the AC impedance method. The relationship between the results obtained from different tests was studied. It was revealed that the hygrothermal cyclic test can be used as an effective acceleration test for the degradation of organic coating. It was also found in hygrothermal cyclic test that the epoxy coatings have the resistance to stresses at some extent. The degradation of organic coating seems to be caused by the decrease of resistance of coating and the increase of both capacitance and free volume in the organic coating.
Corrosion of reinforcement is the greatest threat to the safety of existing reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Most of the olden structures are gravity load designed (GLD) and are seismically deficient. In present study, investigations are carried out on corrosion damaged GLD beam-column sub-assemblages under reverse cyclic loading, in order to evaluate their seismic performance. Five GLD beam-column sub-assemblage specimens comprising of i) One uncorroded ii) Two corroded iii) One uncorroded strengthened with steel bracket and haunch iv) One corroded strengthened with steel bracket and haunch, are tested under reverse cyclic loading. The performances of these specimens are assessed in terms of hysteretic behaviour, energy dissipation and strength degradation. It is noted that the nature of corrosion i.e. uniform or pitting corrosion and its location have significant influence on the behaviour of corrosion damaged GLD beam-column sub-assemblages. The corroded specimens with localised corrosion pits showed in-cyclic strength degradation. The study also reveals that external strengthening which provides an alternate force path but depends on the strength of the existing reinforcement bars, is able to mitigate the seismic risk of corroded GLD beam-column sub-assemblages to the level of control uncorroded GLD specimen.
The precision cyclic shear test system was established to investigate the mechanical characteristics of rough rock joints under cyclic loading conditions. Laboratory cyclic shear tests were conducted for saw-cut joints and artificial rough rock joints using Hwangdeung granite and Yeosan marble. Surface roughness and aperture characteristics of specimens were examined by measuring surface topography using the laser profilometer. Peak shear strength, phase difference during loading and unloading, and anisotropic shear behavior were investigated throughout the cyclic shear test results. These features and their subsequent variations in each loading cycle are significantly dependent upon the second order asperities and the strength of intact rock. It was observed that degradation of asperities for rough rock joints under cyclic shear loading followed the exponential degradation laws of asperity angle and that the mechanism for asperity degradation would be different depending upon the normal stress level, roughness of joint surface and the loading stage.
Monopile foundations of offshore wind turbines embedded in soft clay are subjected to the long-term cyclic lateral loads induced by winds, currents, and waves, the vibration of monopile leads to the accumulation of pore pressure and cyclic strains in the soil in its vicinity, which poses a threat to the safety operation of monopile. The researchers mainly focused on the hysteretic stress-strain relationship of soft clay and kinds of stiffness degradation models have been adopted, which may consume considerable computing resources and is not applicable for the long-term bearing performance analysis of monopile. In this study, a modified cyclic stiffness degradation model considering the effect of plastic strain and pore pressure change has been proposed and validated by comparing with the triaxial test results. Subsequently, the effects of cyclic load ratio, pile aspect ratio, number of load cycles, and length to embedded depth ratio on the accumulated rotation angle and pore pressure are presented. The results indicate the number of load cycles can significantly affect the accumulated rotation angle of monopile, whereas the accumulated pore pressure distribution along the pile merely changes with pile diameter, embedded length, and the number of load cycles, the stiffness of monopile can be significantly weakened by decreasing the embedded depth ratio L/H of monopile. The stiffness degradation of soil is more significant in the passive earth pressure zone, in which soil liquefaction is likely to occur. Furthermore, the suitability of the "accumulated rotation angle" and "accumulated pore pressure" design criteria for determining the required cyclic load ratio are discussed.
Recently, the robot actuator worked by the driving recovery-force of the thermo elastic martensitic transformation of shape memory alloys(SMA) has been studied. In general, such a SMA actuator necessitates a number of cyclic repeated motion, so that the investigation of gradual decrease of recovery force with repeated motion cycle as well as the prevention of such a degradation of shape memory effect(SME) are very important for the actual use of a robot actuator. However, such research and discussions about the degradation of SME are very few up to the present. Therefore, in this study, the characteristics of the cyclic deformation and degradation of SME of Ti-Ni alloy would be investigated and discussed in detail by current heat type fatigue tester, which is a newly designed fatigue tester by author. In addition, we will establish a new design concept for robot actuator from these result.
