On the Cutting Resistance in Drilling Operation (Drill 가공에서의 절삭저항에 관한 연구)

  • In relation to the machinability of drilling operation, experiments were made to investigate the effect of cutting condition on static as well as dynamic cutting resistances in cutting plane carbon steel (SM 45 C) with H.S.S. twist drills. The results were as follows. 1) The static cutting resistances on carbon steel can practically be calculated by the following equations which were derived from experimental result. The deviation from the experimental values was less than 8% and 13% for cutting torque and thrust respectively. For cutting torque M: M=0.019 $H_B\;{f^{0.68}d^{1.68}$ For thrust T: T=0.400406 $r^{0.6}d^{0.68}$ + 0.1835 $H_BC^2$(where $H_B$: Brinnel hardness) 2) The static components of cutting resistance are increased exponentially with increasing drill diameter and feed rate. On the effect of drill diameter, the dynamic components of torque are decreased with increasing dirll diameter because of rigidity, the dynamic components of thrust being not effected with the changes. 3) As feed rates increase, the dynamic components of torque rather decrease although its changes on thrust components are unstable. 4) The static components of cutting resistance and dynamic component of torque are slightly decreased in accordance with the increase of spindle speed although its dynamic thrust components are not effected by the spindle speed.

A Study on the Effects of Cutting Resistance and Surface Roughness of the Machine Structure Carbon Steel in Turning (선삭에서 기계구조용 탄소강의 가공시 절삭저항과 표면거칠기에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of various cutting condition on the cutting resistance and surface roughness of material in turning operation using a coated carbide tool. The workpiece materials were the carbon steel SM20C and SM45C The results of this study are summarized as follows: The cutting force decreases as the feedee amount and the cutting depth decrease and the cutting speed increases. In order to obtain a proper surface roughness to each material it is desirable to set the feeding amount as 0.059mm.rev, the cutting depth as 0.4mm and the cutting speed as 270m/min for SM20C, while setting the feeding as 0.059mm/rev the cutting depth as 0.6mm and the cutting speed as 270m/min for SM45C.

  • In Turning It is good selection of cutting condition and cutting tools that influence upon the accuracy of dimension manufacturing efficiency and extension of tool life. Among them especially the identification of cutting force due to the change of cutting conditions which exerts a great influence on the turning is very important. In this study the cutting resistance due to the change of cutting conditions was caculated by using the energy method and good agreement in shown between theoritical and experimental results which were tested for the cutting resistance at the cemented carbide cutting tools with workpieces of SM20C and SM 45C.

  • In this study, machinability of some aluminum-magnesium alloy are experimentally investigated using polycrystalline diamond tool with turning, and evaluated some independent cutting variables affected micrometal cutting characteristics as cutting force, specific cutting resistance, shear angles. To know the effect of cutting parameters of single point diamond machining, experiments were performed to measure cutting forces for high speed turning of aluminum alloy 6061-T6, SM45C and FC20 with poly- crystalline diamond and coated cemented carbide tool. Independent cutting variables were changed to a variety of cutting speed, feed rate, rake angles, material properties of workpiece and tool. Futhermore. Some useful informations are obtained in this study can guide micro metal cutting of aluminum alloy with diamond tool.

  • Curvic coupling of mill turret should maintain disk weight and the cutting resistance which occurs the machining operation and must also have power transmission function. In order to improve machining operation range, the ejecting distance from curvic coupling to the disk must increase as much as possible. But moment is increased by the lack of capacity of the curvic coupling. Increase of moment is the cause of vibration/noise and degradation of machining performance not only stability problem. The manufacturer of mill turret has no the design information between the ejecting distance and the cutting resistance with safety of curvic coupling. Therefore this study describes a finite element analysis model of mill turret using ANSYS workbench. The structural analyses and modal analyses with varying of the ejecting distances and cutting resistances are performed. Finally the equation for relationship between the critical ejecting distance and the cutting resistance is defined under 5 of the safety factor for the maximum von-Mises stress at the curvic coupling.

  • In order to clarify the wear resistance as cutting tools, the effect of oxygen addition on oxidation behavior of the ${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ ceramics with 5 mass% $Y_2O_3$ and 2 or 4 mass% $Al_2O_3$ was investigated by performing oxidation tests in air at $1300^{\circ}$ to $1400^{\circ}C$ and cutting performance tests. From test results, we could conclude that the mechanical properties of ${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ ceramics depending on oxygen introduction are much effective on cutting performance improvements of ${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ ceramics.

  • This study is performed in order to provide the basic information needed for the development of cutting blade for combine. By comparing the developed cutting blade of which were made groove of the surface with the common cutting blade. Friction force and cutting resistance by the cutter bar speed ratio and moisture content of rice stalk were shown as follows: 1. The friction force of the developed cutting blade is shown at the average value $0.12kg{\cdot}m$ as 25% lower than one of the common blade at the average value $0.16kg{\cdot}m$. 2. The cutting resistance of the developed cutting blade is shown as respectively 12%, 15% and 20% lower than one of the common blade at the moisture content of rice stalk of 14.2%, 55.3% and 84.2%. 3. The cutting resistance of cutting blade by two different driving types is shown that the one by double driving type is $0.2kg{\cdot}m$, and the one by single driving type is $0.24kg{\cdot}m$. 4. Optimum cutter bar speed ratio of cutting blade is shown as different according to the moisture content of rice stalk.

  • This study aims to find the shapes of an end-mill with low cutting temperature during the end-mill process of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Such ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ titanium alloys are increasingly more used for their high tensile strength and high corrosion resistance. The cutting characteristics of Ti-6Al-4V alloy were studied using an analytical method validated by comparing the estimated cutting resistance with that from experiments. The end-mill shape was analyzed using an experimental method. The end-mill shape with low cutting resistance and low cutting temperature was confirmed by analyzing the signal-to-noise ratios for various conditions. Then, the factors with significance factor of 95% or more were determined in the variance analysis. Finally, an end-mill shape that can ensure a low cutting temperature was proposed.
