Workpiece materials may be relatively easy to machine by traditional methods but workpiece geometry also may be a constraint. Many shapes that are geometrically difficult to handle conventionally may be candidates for nontraditional processes. Nontraditional processes provide new opportunities for product design innovation and productivity improvements. Difficult-to-machine materials of geometric shapes difficult o produce with traditional equipment and tooling, may often be easily and cost effectively machined using nontraditional processes. Notraditional machining processes are relative newcomers o the manufacturing arena. Nontraditional chemical solutions, or even electrolytic current as the working medium rather than a conventional cutting tool or abrasive to remove or shape materials.

Cuttings based on water media are relatively low-cost and easy to manage compared to those based on soil media. Nevertheless, species that root out in water media are very few. Water-medium rooted cuttings are not widely used. In water media, the survival rate of cuttings is high, but in many cases, they only form callus while not rooting. If cuttings with callus formed in a water medium were to root and survive after being transplanted in soil, water-medium cuttings could be used as an important means of propagating landscape tree species. In this study, cuttings of Ternstroemia japonica having various reactions to water media were soaked in different types of water media. Their callus formation and rooting conditions were analyzed. The water-medium cutting swere then transplanted in soil, and conditions for their survival were examined. The study concluded: 1. Cuttings that only formed callus in water media were able to root and survive after being transplanted. 2. Cuttings with satisfactory callus formation showed more satisfactory survival conditions than those with unsatisfactory callus formation. 3. Cuttings rooted in water media showed a high survival rate of 96.6% after being transplanted. 4. Water-medium cutting of Ternstroemia japonica proved to be more effective in Late July or August than in late June. 5. Cuttings pre-treated in 50ppm-IBA for 24 hours showed better survival conditions than those that were not pre-treated inIBA. 6. Cuttings pre-treated in 50ppm-IBA for 24 hours and soaked in water media with 0.02% atonic, 0.02% polyoxin, and 0.01% polyoxin showed a rooting and survival rate of 80 to 85%. Regardless their low rooting rate, water-medium cuttings can show a high survival rate when these factors are considered: proper cutting time, plant hormone treatment, and types of water media. Accordingly, water-medium cuttings will emerge as major means of propagating landscape tree species that require small volumes of multi-species.
The purpose of this study was to roughness on the polished surface of visible light composite resins and was to observe the polished surfaces under Scanning Electrom Microscope(ISI DS 130 AKASHI Co. JAPAN). The surface roughness tester(Surfcom 700A Seimtsu profilometer Tokyo, Japan) was used to measure roughness of polished surfaces. In this study, 5 brands of visible of composite resins were examined, Pyrofile light bond Anterior Lite fil anterior Photo clearfil anterior & posterior Palfique light Anterior and posterior Silux Anterior. White point, Silicure point, Super snap Sof-Lex medium disk as cutting instrument, and celluloid matrix were used. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The Celluloid matrix produced the smoothest surfaces. 2. The surfaces made by Soflex medium disk was smoother than the surfaces made by any other polishing instruments. 3. The values of surface roughness made by White point, Silicon point and Super snap were similer. 4. Palfique light (AP) visible light composite resin showed the smoothest surface after polishing with Silicone point, Super snap disk and Soflex mediuem disk in all tested materials.
Four experiments were conducted to determine growth regulators, their concentrations and treatment time, rooting medium, and plant parts for optimum seedling propagation by stem cuttings in yacon (Polymnia sonchifolia Poepp. & Endl.). NAA was the most effective on rooting, and followed by IBA 2,4-D, and IAA. Dipping the base of cuttings in 50 or 100 ppm solutions of IBA increased rooting ratios. The 100 ppm solution of IBA was 14% higher than the 50 ppm solution for rooting ratios. Rooting medium with equal volumes of clay loam and sand was the most suitable for rooting of cuttings. Cuttings with both terminal bud and the first node or cuttings with both the first and second nodes were higher in rooting ratios than cuttings with only terminal bud or the first or second nodes. Days to rooting was not affected by plant parts.
The purpose of this study was to measure roughness on the polished surfaces of composite resin, and was to observe the polished surfaces under Scanning Electron Microscope. The surface roughness tester (Surfcom 700A Semitsu Profilometer Tokyo. Japan) was used to measure roughness of polished surfaces. In this study, 4 brands of composite resin were examined, Pyrofil bond anterior Bell-Feel anterior Clearfil F II and Microrest A.P. White point, Silicone point, Super snap, and Sof-Lex medium disc as cutting instrument, and celluloid matrix were used. The results obtained were as follows. 1) The celluloid matrix produced the smoothest surfaces. 2) Microrest composite resin had smoother surface than any other composite resins after polishing. 3) The values of surface roughness made by White point, Silicon point and Super snap were similar. 4) The surfaces made by Sof-Lex medium disc was smoother than the surfaces made by any other polishing instruments.

The natural mixed stand in Jindong-Ri, according to a recent study, showed the possibility of selection cutting as a silvicultural system based on the stand structure such as DBH distribution and height distribution. However, volume structure per DBH class of this stand had not a mature stand of selection cutting. In this study, wherefore, the rate of increment for DBH and volume was used to predict the future stand structure including volume distribution per DBH class. The possibility of selection cutting was then discussed using the future stand structure. From the prediction of future stand structure for 30 years per every 10 years, it could be concluded that the stand will be induced to selection cutting forest because of enough number of trees in objective DBH class and above, total volume per hectare, and the volume of large DBH class which can be harvested every year. However, this stand still did not show the structure of typical selection cutting which has the rate of 1 : 2 : 7 in the number of trees per hectare and the volume rate of 5 : 3 : 2 for large, medium, and small DBH class. This problem could be improved by appropriate silvicultural treatments.

To develop a high efficiency plant regeneration system from in vitro cultures of strawberry, cv. Yeobong, petiole and leaf explants were cultured on MS basal medium containing a combination of 0.5 mg/L IBA and 3.2 mg/L kinetin or zeatin or benzyl amino purine (BAP) for 6 weeks, and leaf explants with dark pretreatment for a week ($T_1$), 2 weeks ($T_2$), and 4 weeks ($T_3$) were cultured on medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/L IBA and 3.2 mg/L zeatin under 16 hr photoperiod for 6 weeks. Shoot organogenesis was observed from the greenish calli containing minimal anthocyanin formed at proximal cutting edges of the leaf explant (57%) when cultured adaxial side on the medium, whereas was directly formed from a cutting edges of petiole explant (6.3%). Frequency of callus formation and shoot organogenesis at large size of leaf explant ($1.0{\sim}1.5\;cm^2$) was higher than small size ($0.5{\sim}1.0\;cm^2$), and dark pretreatment significantly improved the frequency of leaf explants that produced calli and shoots. The maximum frequency (87%) for shoot organogenesis was obtained from the leaf explants that transferred to a 16 hr photoperiod condition after the initial 4 weeks dark period. The improved frequency (87%) in comparision with control without dark pretreatment (27%). When the shoots were transferred to 1/2 MS basal medium, formed roots with 20 d of culture. The rooted plants were subsequently transferred to the pots and to the field.

We developed various plasmid cloning vectors that are useful in the construction of genomic and shotgun libraries. Two medium copy vectors, pCUGlblu21 (pCb21) and pAGlblu21 (pAb21), which are resistant to kanamycin ($Km^R$) and chloramphenicol ($Cam^R$), respectively, are useful for cloning DNA inserts ranging from 5kb to 15kb. Two high copy vectors, pCUGlblu31 (pCb31) and pAGlblu31 (pAb31), containing $Km^R$ and $Cam^R$, respectively, are useful for DNA inserts less than 5kb. These vectors are well adapted for large-scale genome sequencing projects by providing choice of copy number and selectable marker. The small vector size is another advantage of these vectors. All vectors contain lacZa including multicloning sites that originated from pBluscriptllsk- for easy cloning and sequencing. Two medium copy vectors contain unique and rare cutting Swal (ATTTAAAT) restriction enzyme sites for easy determination of insert size. We developed two combined vectors, pC21A31 and pC31A21, which are combinations of (pCb21 + pAb31) and (pCb31 + pAb21), respectively. These two vectors provide four choices of vectors such as $Km^R$ and medium, $Cam^R$ and high, $Cam^R$ and medium, and $Km^R$ and high copy vectors by restriction enzyme cutting, dephosphorylation, and gel purification. These vectors were successfully applied to high throughput shotgun sequencing of rice, tomato, and brassica BAC clones. With an example of extremely biased hydro sheared 3 kb shotgun library of a tomato BAC clone, which is originated from cytogenetically defined peri-centromeric region, we suggest the utility of an additional 10 kb library for sequence assembly of the difficult-to-assemble BAC clone.
Various relationships with the leaf yield per 1,000m in the length of mulberry branch were investigated. The results obtained are as followings. 1. Relationship with the mulberry varieties. There were little differences of the leaf yield among the mulberry varieties, being 106∼109kg in an average and the distributions of the leaf yield were of 60∼160kg class for Morus bombycis Koidz, 50-17kg class for Morus Lhou(Ser.) Koidz and 50∼180kg class for Morus alba L. Otherwise, 79 per cent of all varieties was between 80∼140kg class to which 85 per cent of only Morus Lhou(Ser.) Koidz belonged. There was one or two peaks for each strains, for example, the peak at 80∼90kg class and at 120∼140kg class in Morus bombycis Koidz showed the best yield, the peak at 90∼100kg class in Morus alba L. and 100∼110kg class in Morus Lhou(Ser.) Koidz. 2. Relationship with the pruning. The multi-stemed pruning showed 149kg mulberry leaf yield which was more 75 per cent increase than the low-stemed pruning, 85kg. 3. Relationship with the degree of cutting off. The leaf yield varied according to the degree of cutting off the branch, such as, 166kg in 1/3 cutting off the branch and 180kg in $\frac{1}{2}$ which were more 19 per cent and 34 per cent increase of 140kg in non-cutting off the branch, respectively. The main cause of the leaf increase was thought because of the increase of young branch. 4. Relationship with the branch diameter. In the relation to the leaf yield per 1,000m in branch length, there was no significance comparing 66kg for thin branch with 80kg for medium one ana the thick branch had 150kg leaf yield and increased 88 per cent when compared with the medium one. In the relation to the leaf yield per l0cm in diameter, 811g leaves for thin branch and 875g for medium one were produced, but there was no significance between them. Thick branch had 1,461g, and increased 67 per cent when compared with medium one and the average yield was 1,201g for total branch.
