The effects of concave hemispherical surface curvature on the local heat transfer from a turbulent round impinging jet were experimentally investigated. The liquid crystal transient method was used for these measurements. This method, which is a variation on the transient method, suddenly exposes a preheated wall to an impinging jet while video recording the response of liquid crystals for the measurement of the surface temperature. The Reynolds number ranges from Re=11,000 to 50,000, the nozzle-to- surface distance from L/d=2 to 10, and the surface curvature from D/d=6 to 12.The present results are also compared to those for the flat plate case. In the experiment, the local Nusselt numbers tend to increase in all regions with an increasing surface curvature. The maximum Nusselt number for all Reynolds numbers occurred at L/d .ident. 6 and a second maximum in the Nusselt number occurred at R/d .ident. 2 for both Re=23,000 and Re=50,000 in the case of L/d=2 and for Re=50,000 only in the case of L/d=4. Meanwhile, as the surface curvature increases, the value of the secondary maximum Nusselt number decreases. All the other cases exhibit monotonically decreasing values of the Nusselt number along the curved surface. The stagnation point Nusselt numbers are well correlated with Re, L/d, and D/d.

Previous studies have shown that pile-soil interactions have significant influences on the isolation efficiency of an isolated structure. However, most of the existing tests were carried out using a 1-g shaking table, which cannot reproduce the soil stresses resulting in distortion of the simulated pile-soil interactions. In this study, a centrifuge shaking table modelling of the seismic responses of a friction pendulum bearing isolated structure with a pile foundation under earthquakes were conducted. The pile foundation structure was designed and constructed with a scale factor of 1:100. Two layers of the foundation soil, i.e., the bottom layer was made of plaster and the upper layer was normal soil, were carefully prepared to meet the similitude requirement. Seismic responses, including strains, displacement, acceleration, and soil pressure were collected. The settlement of the soil, sliding of the isolator, dynamic amplification factor and bending moment of the piles were analysed to reveal the influence of the soil structure interaction on the seismic performance of the structure. It is found that the soil rotates significantly under earthquake motions and the peak rotation is about 0.021 degree under 24.0 g motions. The isolator cannot return to the initial position after the tests because of the unrecoverable deformation of the soil and the friction between the curved surface of the slider and the concave plate.
Ingrown toenails are most common among school-age children and adolescents though they can be observed at any age. Causes of ingrown toenails are increased curvature, trauma, and external pressure. Treatment of ingrown toenails can be broadly characterized as conservative and surgical. Conservative treatment can be performed using various methods, such as a gutter splint, dental floss, and cotton. Surgical treatments may be divided into two main approaches; narrowing of the nail plate and debulking of periungual tissues. However, these various conservative and surgical treatments have high recurrence rates, and thus, the author used a permanent surgical method based on the use of a paronychium flap to treat a 15-year-old male adolescent with excessive periungual tissues and curved ingrown toenails who did not improve despite conservative and several surgical treatments over 4 years. Subsequently, toenail shape was maintained without recurrence 22 months after surgery, and there were no complaints of inflammation or pain while walking. This simple surgical method can be performed on patients with advanced ingrown toenails due to excessive periungual tissues and nail curvature and can be expected to have permanent effects.
Organic solar cells utilized natural polymers to convert solar energy to electricity. The demands for green energy production and less disposal of toxic materials make them one of the interesting candidates for replacing conventional solar cells. However, the different aspects of their properties including mechanical strength and stability are not well recognized. Therefore, in the present study, we aim to explore the chaotic responses of these organic solar cells. In doing so, a specific type of organic solar cell constructed from layers of material with different thicknesses is considered to obtain vibrational and chaotic responses under different boundaries and initial conditions. A square plate structure is examined with first-order shear deformation theory to acquire the displacement field in the laminated structure. The bounding between different layers is considered to be perfect with no sliding and separation. On the other hand, nonlocal elasticity theory is engaged in incorporating the structural effects of the organic material into calculations. Hamilton's principle is adopted to obtain governing equations with regard to boundary conditions and mechanical loadings. The extracted equations of motion were solved using the perturbation method and differential quadrature approach. The results demonstrated the significant effect of relative glass layer thickness on the chaotic behavior of the structure with higher relative thickness leading to less chaotic responses. Moreover, a comprehensive parameter study is presented to examine the effects of nonlocality and relative thicknesses on the natural frequency of square organic solar cell structure.

This paper presents the results of fluidelastic instability analysis performed for the U-tube bundle of a Westinghouse model 51 steam generator, one of the recirculating types designed at an early stage, in which the principal region of external cross-flow is associated with the U-bend portion of tube. The prerequisites for this analysis are detailed informations of the secondary side flow conditions in the steam generator and the free vibration behaviours of the U-tubes. In this study, the three-dimensional two-phase flow field in the steam generator has been calculated employing the ATHOS3 steam generator two-phase flow code and the ANSYS engineering analysis code has been used to calculate the free vibration responses of specific U tubes under consideration. The assessment of the potential instability for the suspect U-tubes, which is the final analysis process of the present work, has been accomplished by combining the secondary side velocity and density distributions obtained from the ATHOS3 prediction with the relative modal displacement and natural frequency data calculated using the ANSYS code. The damping of tubes in two-phase flow has been deduced from the existing experimental data by taking into account the secondary side void fraction effect. In operation of the steam generator, the tube support conditions at the tube-to-tube support plate intersections due to either tube denting degradation or deposition of tube support plate corrosion products or ingression of dregs. Thus, various hypothetical cases regarding the tube support conditions at the tube-to-tube support plate intersections have been considered to investigate the clamped support effects on the forced vibration response of the tube. Also, the effect of anti-vibration bars support in the curved portion of tube has been examined.

The mechanical characteristics of three types of core with two-dimensional isotropic patterns-triangular, hexagonal and starcell-were studied in applications to sandwich structures. The Young's modulus and shear modulus were calculated for the three core types in the direction normal to the faces. The compressive buckling strength and shear buckling strength were calculated by modeling each cell wall of the core as a plate under compressive or shear load. To verify this model, tests were conducted on scaled specimens to measure the compressive buckling strength of each core. The bending flexibilites of the three cores were also studied. Compliances for the three cores were measured using biaxial flexural tests. The three isotropic core patterns exhibited distinct characteristics. In the direction normal to the faces, all three cores had the same stiffness. However, the starcell core exhibited high flexibility compared to the other cores, indicating potential for application to curved sandwich structures.

Line heating is a manufacture method, which was widely used to machining a curved surface in the ship construction. The qualities using by line heating are very difference compare to the proficiency level of the engineer. So it's mainly depend on the automation equipment instead of the proficiency level engineer. In this study, it would be investigate the temperature distribution of the heating plate, which was used by the automation equipment according to line heating. The main factors are the moving velocity of the heating source, strength and the heating method separately, in temperature distribution while line heating. In this paper, it was investigated the temperature change with the vary of each three variables. The numerical result showed that peak temperature decrease if the moving velocity of the heating source increased. It can also calculate the change quantitatively that the peak temperature and temperature distribution changed linearly with the vary of the heating source.

This paper presents a method that integrates passive and active-sensing techniques for the structural health monitoring of plate-like structures. Three piezoelectric transducers are deployed in a L-shape to detect and locate an impact event by measuring and processing the acoustic emission data. The same sensor arrays are used to estimate the subsequent structural damage using guided waves. Because this method does not require a prior knowledge of the structural parameters, such as the wave velocity profile in various directions, accurate results could be achieved even on anisotropic or curved plates. A series of experiments was performed on plates, including a spar-wing structure, to demonstrate the capability of the proposed method. The performance was also compared to that of traditional approaches and the superior capability of the proposed method was experimentally demonstrated.
This thesis aims to create a new technique by applying traditional ceramics technique. As a matter of fact, on the toremi plate of the sieve-frame skein technique, the weld on which various patterns are squeezed, is attached to the cylinder made of clay on the spinning wheel. And it is the concept that maximizes aesthetic beauty by expressing distorted pattern and free dismantling of existing pattern by pushing it out from inside by the turn of electric spinning wheel for the first time. The main point of view of this aesthetic source is that most of the surface of the ceramics is a spherical curved surface and looks distorted like an indicator drawn on a globe. The researcher created a dynamic and humorous technique of expression through the free dismantling of the squashed shapes and the distorted patterns and called it the bating sealing weld outer wall extension technique.
