  • In this study, the effects of the type and content of silica on the mechanical and tear properties of chloroprene rubber (CR), which is mainly used as a jacket material for mining cables, were studied. The crosslinking density (ΔM) and reinforcing factor (αf) defined using cure characteristics increased with increasing silica content, whereas the cure rate decreased. The hardness, tensile strength, and modulus of the CR compounds increased depending on the silica content and structural development. The reinforcing behavior of the silica-filled CR compounds according to the silica type and content showed the best fit with the Thomas equation of the predictive model. Tear strength was evaluated using two standard test methods, ASTM D470 and DIN VDE 0472-613, and the results were compared. The tear strength increased as the silica content increased, regardless of the test method, and the different tear strengths obtained by the two standard test methods showed a linear relationship with each other, indicating a high correlation.

  • This study Is to forecast the damage of smallpox as a biological weapon and to measure the effect of potential responses (quarantine, vaccination and cure) to the spread of smallpox infection when a smallpox bioterrorism attack occurs. We designed the smallpox spreading simulation model through the literature study on a basis of some existing infectious disease models such as SIR, SEIR model by using Vensim program. In order to evaluate the performance of responses to smallpox, we measure the total infection population, infection sustaining duration, average infection rate and the infection spreading behavior of the smallpox. This study can help those who are related to the bioterrorism forecast the present and possible demage, and take more effective actions for minimizing the damage by smallpox bioterrorism.

  • In order to investigate the physical properties of rubber blend compound, this experiment was carried out on the cure rate, loss tangent, reinforcement and abrasion properties of S-SBR (solution styrene-butadiene rubber) blends containing silane coupled silica and E-SBR (emulsion styrene-butadiene rubber) blends containing carbon black as a model compound. E-SBR blend showed the highest total bound rubber(TBR), while S-SBR blends showed constant TBR level regardless of rubber type. Rapid cure rate was achieved when the styrene and vinyl content of rubber microstructure decreased and TBR content of rubber compounds increased. The modulus as the index of rubber reinforcement showed the linear relation with TBR content. The large amount of PICO loss was observed when the styrene and vinyl content of rubber microstructure increased, while the small amount of PICO loss was observed when the ratio of bu-tadiene increased in the S-SBR blends with silane copuled silica. The high loss tangent at $0^{\circ}C$, the low loss tangent at $60^{\circ}C$, and the large difference of loss tangent were shown in the S-SBR blends with high styrene content compared to E-SBR blend.

  • This study investigated the effects of imported fisheries products on WTO/DDA tariff negotiations. To calculate the results, the study estimated the demand functions of imported fisheries products by using unit root and cointegration approaches. These approaches allowed us to solve spurious regression problems with macro-economic variables. In addition, this study surmised the effects of change by individually imported fish products from a tariff negotiation model using price elasticities of estimated import demand function. In a process of the analysis for estimating import effects, this study found out that 39 out of 128 imported fish products had positive (+) price elasticities or did not exhibit cointegrations. To cure this problem, this study suggested that the effects of these 39 imported products be estimated with the average variation rate of import volume, rather than by the Ordinary Least Squares approach. In this study, a case-study of tariff formula with coefficient 8 based on a 'Swiss formula' for priority duty rate of 2001 and 2008 was used by to analyze the effect of change in the 128 imported fish products of both years, respectively.

  • The fundamental goal of the research was to verify if the Twin Deficits Hypothesis holds for the economy of Zambia using time series data from 1980-2014. The current account and budget deficit were employed as key variables. The exchange rate was also used as a transmission mechanism to see how it contributes in the nexus. Cointegration tests confirmed a long run association of the variables. After fitting the VECM model, Granger causality tests confirmed the existence of twin deficits for Zambia. The results supported uni-directional reverse causality. The exchange rate was shown to be more significant in the long run than in the short run. The implosion of the time series as shown by the predicted cointegration equation implies that unless drastic measures are taken to cure the deficits, using the current account as the major target variable, twin deficits will persist for some time. The major policy implication of this research is that given that Zambia is a primary commodity-dependent developing country subsisting largely on copper revenues to sustain the economy, there is a need to move away from "copper addiction," given the recent volatility of earnings of primary commodities (e.g. through diversification of the economy, import substitution, and other strategies).

  • Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in person's mood, energy, and ability to function. Compared with manic episode, the depression episode causes more serious results such as restless, loss of interest or pleasure, or thoughts of death or suicide and the cure rate of depression episode is lower than that of manic episode. Furthermore, a long term use of antidepressants in bipolar patients may result in manic episode. Our interest is to investigate the effect of antidepressant on switch of moods of bipolar patients and to estimate the transition probabilities of switch between moods, depression and (hypo) manic. In this study, three approaches are applied in terms of multi state model. Parametric model is applied using left censoring data and nonparametric model is implemented under illness-death model with counting process. In order to estimate the effect of covariates, a multiplicative model is used. These all methods have similar results.

  • Many chemotherapeutic drugs were developed and contributed to the increase of cure rate of cancer, however severe side effect of these drugs is a major cause of poor quality of life of cancer patients. Effect of deer blood on cancer therapy was investigated in mouse tumor model. Deer blood itself was shown to have mild antitumor activity. However it has significant effect on the reduction of the side effects of chemotherapy. Deer blood recovered the reduction of WBC and platelet (myelotoxicity) during fluorouracil chemotherapy. Deer blood also recovered the increase of serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN; indicator of renal toxicity) and increase of serum amylase activity (AMY; indicator of pancreatic toxicity) almost to the control level during cisplatin chemotherapy. Fluorouracil and cisplatin are major chemotherapeutic drugs which are currently used in clinical cancer therapy, and the results strongly suggest that deer blood can be used for reducing the side effects and improving the quality of life during chemotherapy of cancer patients.

  • In the present study, the therapeutic potential of purified and well-characterized bacteriophages was evaluated in thermally injured mice infected with Klebsiella pneumoniae B5055. The efficacy of five Klebsiella phages (Kpn5, Kpn12, Kpn13, Kpn17, and Kpn22) was evaluated on the basis of survival rate, decrease in bacterial counts in different organs of phage-treated animals, and regeneration of skin cells as observed by histopathological examination of phage-treated skin. Toxicity studies performed with all the phages showed them to be non-toxic, as no signs of morbidity and mortality were observed in phage-treated mice. The results of the study indicate that a single dose of phages, intraperitoneally (i.p.) at an MOI of 1.0, resulted in significant decrease in mortality, and this dose was found to be sufficient to completely cure K. pneumoniae infection in the burn wound model. Maximum decrease in bacterial counts in different organs was observed at 72 h post infection. Histopathological examination of skin of phage-treated mice showed complete recovery of burn infection. Kpn5 phage was found to be highly effective among all the phages and equally effective when compared with a cocktail of all the phages. From these results, it can be concluded that phage therapy may have the potential to be used as stand-alone therapy for K. pneumoniae induced burn wound infection, especially in situations where multiple antibiotic-resistant organisms are encountered.

  • With the advent of the era of artificial intelligence, more and more fields have begun to use artificial intelligence technology, especially the medical field. Cancer is one of the biggest problems in the medical field. [1] If it can be detected early and treated early, the possibility of cure will be greatly increased. Malignant skin cancer, as one of the types of cancer with the highest fatality rate in recent years has problems such as relying on the experience of doctors and being unable to be detected and detected in time. Therefore, if artificial intelligence technology can be used to help doctors in early detection of skin cancer, or to allow everyone to detect skin lesions or spots anytime, anywhere, it will have great practical significance. In this paper we used attention residual learning convolutional neural network (ARL-CNN) model [2] to classify skin cancer pictures.

  • The UV curing method is a popular process for lens molding on a unit wafer. This process, however, has several drawbacks including wafer adhesion during the ejection process after curing, errors in lens shape and wafer warpage due to material shrinkage during the curing process, and lens centering errors on both sides of a wafer. Among these, the lens shape error and warpage are influenced directly by the UV curing process due to factors including the UV radiation uniformity, the degree of cure according to UV intensity, and the shrinkage characteristics of the material. Therefore, a theory is needed not only to understand the change in the material characteristics, such as the shrinkage rate due to the curing reaction, but also to establish a model. In addition, an analysis system is needed to realize the model. This study proposes a new analysis method for the wafer lens molding process by Comsol modeling. This method was verified by comparing the results with those of the actual process.
