음향방출법을 이용한 스테인레스강 피로수명 예측 (Fatigue Life Prediction of Stainless Steel Using Acoustic Emission)

  • The feasibility of the acoustic emission technique in predicting the residual fatigue life of STS304 stainless steel is presented. Acoustic emission was continuously monitored during the fatigue tests. Considerable acoustic emission occurred during the first few cycles. Acoustic Emission increased rapidly at about 90% of the fatigue life, clear and ample warning of impending fatigue failure was observed. Fatigue damage accumulation was evaluated in terms of an AE cumulative counts. The AE cumulative counts may be taken as an indicator of fatigue cumulative damage. Fatigue damages corresponding to 20, 40, 60 and 80% of the total life were induced at a cyclic stress amplitude. The specimens with and without fatigue damage were subjected to tensile tests. In tensile tests, the total cumulative counts were reduced with increasing fatigue damage. It was observed that the residual tensile strength of material did not change significantly with prior cyclic loading damages.

  • Structural integrity of railway vehicles should last for a long period against various and continuous fatigue loadings, and the carbody structures of railway vehicle are manufactured by applying multiform welding types for each material. Since the most of cracks are occurred and proceeded at the vicinity of welding area during the lifetime of carbody structure, the fatigue strength evaluation for welding area of carbody structure should have been carried out. Rotem Company has evaluated lifetime and fatigue strength of carbody structure according to the fatigue analysis based on the international standard and/or inner-official regulation. This study introduces the fatigue analysis method that we have evaluated and calculated the damages for the welding areas of carbody structure under various fatigue loading conditions using cumulative fatigue damage rule(Miner's rule) to verify whether the cumulative damage does exceed unity. This study contains the fatigue test of specimens to derive stress-life relations(S-N curve), sub-modeling analysis and the calculation of cumulative damages under fatigue loading. The fatigue analysis verifies the welding area shall be capable of withstanding under fatigue loading, identifies how critical area shall be selected and presents the principles to be used for design verification.

원자력발전소의 온배수 배출량을 고려한 어업생산감소율 추정 모델 (A Quantitative Model for Estimating Fishery Production Damages as a Result of Thermal Effluents from Nuclear Power Plants)

  • A quantitative model was developed in order to estimate fishery production damage due to anthropogenically induced environmental changes. The model is described in the following equation, $Y_D=\frac{{\phi}_D}{{\phi}_G}[Y_0{\cdot}(t_p-t_0)-\frac{Y_0}{{\phi}_G}(1-e^{-{\phi}_G(t_p-t_0)})]$, where, $Y_D$ is annual amount of fishery production by nuclear power plant. ${\varphi}$ D and ${\varphi}$ G are instantaneous decreasing coefficient of fishery production by nuclear power plant and instantaneous decreasing coefficient of gross fishery production, respectively. $Y_0$ is annual mean fishery production without damages. $t_p$ is the present time, and $t_0$ is the starting time of damages. The model was applied to fishing grounds near a nuclear power plant on the east coast of Korea. Since fishery production damages have become bigger with increasing emission of thermal effluents from generators activities in the power plant, this factor has also been considered as, $\delta_{D_i}=\delta_D\({\sum}\limits_{i=0}^{n}\;W_i/W_T\)$, where, $\delta_{Di}$ is the cumulative damage rate in fishery production from generators, $\delta_D$ is the total cumulative damage rate in fishery production, $W_i$ is the emission amount of thermal effluents by generator i, and n is the number of generators in the nuclear power plant. This model can be used to conduct initial estimates of fishery production damages, before more detailed assessments are undertaken.

휴대전자기기용 저용량 리튬이온 배터리의 충방전 열화 기구 분석 및 모니터링 (Evaluation and monitoring of degradation mechanism of Li-ion battery for portable electronic device)

  • As a fundamental experimental study for reliability improvement of lithium ion secondary battery, degradation mechanism was investigated by microscopic observation and acoustic emission monitoring. Microstructural observation of the decomposed battery after cycle test revealed mechanical and chemical damages such as interface delamination, microcrack of the electrodes, and solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Acoustic emission (AE) signal was detected during charge and discharge of lithium ion battery to investigate relationships among cumulative count, discharge capacity, and microdamages. With increasing number of cycle, discharge capacity was decreased and AE cumulative count was observed to increase. Observed damages were attributed to sources of the detected AE signals.

택지개발사업이 산림에 미치는 시·공간적 누적영향 분석 (Temporal and Spatial Cumulative Impact Assessments on Forest Damages by Housing Development Projects)

  • Recently, it has been important not only to evaluate environmental effects but also to assess cumulative and comprehensive effects by the development projects. This paper concentrates on temporal and spatial cumulative impacts on Suji district in Yongin, Gyunggi-do. This paper adopted two methods to assess the cumulative impacts. First, it assesses the temporal change of forest patch size and land cover according to the patch size. Second, it compares housing development zones with the neighborhood. The result of the research appears that the damage is very serious, especially in small forest. The Forest area is changed to farm land, most of them become to built-up area later. In addition, it is assessed that the secondary housing development projects did more harm than the initial one. By assessing the cumulative impacts on Suji district, this research suggests to minimize two kinds of solutions : comprehensive environmental assessments in regional unit and regulation on total forest quantity.

리튬이온전지의 열화손상에 의한 음향방출 신호 검출 (Detection of Acoustic Signal Emitted during Degradation of Lithium Ion Battery)

  • 리튬이온전지의 충/방전 열화 과정에서 발생하는 음향방출 신호를 검출하여 누적카운트, 방전용량, 미세손상 사이의 상관관계를 확인하였다. 상용 리튬이온전지를 사용하여 가속 충/방전 싸이클 실험을 하면서 음향방출 신호를 수집하였다. 다수의 음향방출 신호가 전지의 충전 및 방전 과정에서 각각 검출되었다. 충/방전 열화 싸이클이 증가함에 따라 전지 용량은 감소하였고 음향방출 신호의 누적카운트는 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 충/방전 후 전지를 분해하여 내부 전극 손상을 관찰한 결과 전극 계면 박리 및 미소균열이 다수 확인되었으며, 이러한 기계적 손상이 음향방출원인 것으로 판단된다. 전지 방전용량과 음향방출 누적카운트 사이에는 선형의 상관관계가 있었으며, 이로부터 음향방출법을 이용한 리튬이온전지 열화 평가 가능성을 제안하였다.

가속수명시험 모델에 따른 평기어의 신뢰성 해석 (Reliability Analysis of the Spur Gear with Accelerated Life Testing Model)

  • The gear in various mechanical components easily occurs at damages by the external torque. The main failure modes of the gear are surface pitting with the tooth surface and breakage with tooth root by caused fatigue. Therefore, the gear is very important role in the reliability research since it may cause fatal damage of entire system such as the gear box in automobile transmission. In this study, the failure mode of the gear was analyzed and accelerated durability analysis was employed for the life estimation of spur gears. In the case of assumed load spectrums, the reliability of spur gears was evaluated by inverse power law-Weibull accelerated life test model with cumulative damage exposure.

강도로교의 피로설계하중에 관한 연구 (The Study on Fatigue Design Loads of Steel Highway Bridges)

  • 최근 중화물 차량의 적재율 증가와 교통량의 증가 등으로 인해 강도로교에서는 반복하중에 의한 피로손상이 많이 발생하고 있으며 이러한 손상은 교량의 안전성에 심각한 영향을 미치고 있다. 따라서 사용기간 동안에 발생하는 피로손상을 합리적으로 반영할 수 있는 피로설계하중을 결정하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 미국 AASHTO의 LRFD 피로설계방법을 고찰하였으며 그 결과 교폭에 관계없이 1대의 피로설계트럭을 재하하여 설계하는 것은 일정한 안전수준을 확보하지 못하는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서, 교폭에 따라 설계하중 재하방법을 다르게 하는 것이 보다 일관성 있는 안전수준을 가지는 것으로 나타났으며 본 연구에서는 다양한 교량구조형식과 통행특성에 따라 발생하는 피로손상을 합리적으로 반영할 수 있는 피로설계하중의 재하방법과 수준 및 형식을 제시하였다.

추계학적 확률과정을 이용한 경사제 피복재의 시간에 따른 피해 경로 추정 (Estimation of Time-dependent Damage Paths of Armors of Rubble-mound Breakwaters using Stochastic Processes)

  • 피해 자료의 부족에 따른 불확실성 뿐만 아니라 시간의 진행에 따른 불확실성을 고려하기 위하여 추계학적 확률과정을 이용하여 시간에 따른 구조물의 피해 경로를 정량적으로 추적하였다. 누적피해도와 내구년수의 분포함수를 시간의 함수로 산정하여 추계학적 확률과정을 적용할 때 주의해야 하는 중요한 특성들을 제시하였다. 특히, 본 연구에서는 추계학적 확률과정을 경사제 피복재에 적용하여 시간에 따른 누적 피해도를 추적할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다. 확률과정의 매개변수들을 추정하기 위하여 개발된 표본경로기법을 이용하여 경사제 피복재의 시간에 따른 누적 피해도가 포화거동을 따른다는 사실이 확인되었다. 또한 누적 피해도 산정시 중요한 역할을 하는 멱함수의 지수를 정량적으로 산정하여 경사제 피복재의 누적 피해도를 시간에 따라 추적하는 것이 가능했다. 마지막으로 한계수준을 다양하게 변화시키면서 파괴확률의 거동특성을 해석하였다.

복합재 헬리콥터 로터 블레이드의 피로 및 손상허용 평가 방안 (Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Evaluation of Composite Helicopter Rotor Blades)

  • Fatigue evaluations for the rotor blades of commercial or military rotorcraft have been carried out using the safe life concept since 1950s. Particularly, in the case of a rotor blade made of a composite material, a highly reliable fatigue life could be predicted by evaluation the cumulative damage using combination of fatigue life curve and load spectrum. However, there is a limit in adequately evaluating the strength reducing phenomena caused by damages or defects generated during the manufacturing process or impact damage induced by operational usages, using only the safe life concept. In this study, the fatigue evaluation process based on the damage tolerance concept is described and illustrated by means of successful application to substantiate the retirement time of composite rotor blades.
