  • Recently, 3D printing using a material extrusion method is used in various fields. Since plastic material has lower strength than steel, research to increase the strength is continuously being conducted. This study investigates the lattice structure for additive manufacturing of six 3D infill patterns (octet, quarter cubic, cubic, cubic subdivision, triangles and cross 3D) which consist of tetragons, hexagonal trusses, equilateral triangles and cross shapes. Consequently, in the tensile strength considering the weight and printing time, octet, quarter cubic, cubic and triangles patterns tended to increase linearly as the infill density increased, except for the infill density of 20%. However, the tensile strength/weight performed better than the infill density of 100% when the cubic subdivision pattern had the infill density of 20% and the cross 3D pattern had the infill density of 40%. Considering the weight and printing time, the infill patterns of high tensile strength were octet, quarter cubic, cubic, cubic subdivision, triangles and cross 3D order.

  • Salvador Dali put a title of his work as 'A Propos of the Treatise on Cubic Form by Juan de Herrera' at 1960. Through this work which is consisted in cube frame surrounding black and white letter squares and nails in the sky, he directly referred about the cube which were showed in his pictures. To understand the meaning of this work, Dali's paintings and Juan de Herrera's design and architectural ideas are analysed by building. His concerning about absolute existence like god and nuclear takes the cubic form by Juan de Herrera instead of pictorial tendencies of Cubism, however pictorial elements such as sky and nails were still used in the work. He use alphabet letter as pattern consisting wall and symbol representing 'Juan de Herrera', moreover number '2' is taken to show up line attribute. Dali had several design develop process, and finally he reached an new stage called 'Hypercube'. Hypercube can distinguish from Cubism and Herrera's architectural idea, and it will be free from objective world based in Euclid geometry. Although cubic is the simplest shape. It can contain the variety of developments in these fields - philosophy, architecture, painting and etc.- from Platon to nuclear physics and coexists in a picture of Salvador Dali.

  • In this study, we obtain the spherical images of minimal curves in the complex space in ℂ4 which are obtained by translating Cartan frame vector fields to the centre of hypersphere, and present their properties such as becoming isotropic cubic, pseudo helix, and spherical involutes. Also, we examine minimal curves which are characterized by a system of differential equations.

  • Natural convection of a magnetic fluid is different from that of Newtonian fluids because magnetic body force exists in an addition to gravity and buoyancy. In this paper, natural convection of a magnetic fluids(W-40) in a cubic cavity is examined by numerical and experimental method. One side wall was kept at a constant temperature($25^{\circ}C$), and the opposite side wall was also held at a constant but lower temperature($20^{\circ}C$). Under above conditions, various magnitudes of the magnetic fields were applied up. GSMAC scheme is used for a numerical method, and the thermo-sensitive liquid crystal film(R20C5A) is utilized in order to visualize wall-temperature distributions as an experimental method. This study has resulted in the following fact that the natural convection of a magnetic fluids is controlled by the direction and intensity of the magnetic fields.

  • In the present study, a suitable mathematical model considering parabolic transverse shear strains for dynamic analysis of laminated composite skew plates under different types of impulse and spatial loads was presented for the first time. The proposed mathematical model satisfies zero transverse shear strain at the top and bottom of the plate. On the basis of the cubic variation of thickness coordinate in in-plane displacement fields of the present mathematical model, a 2D finite element (FE) model was developed including skew transformations in the mathematical model. No shear correction factor is required in the present formulation and damping effect was also incorporated. This is the first FE implementation considering a cubic variation of thickness coordinate in in-plane displacement fields including skew transformations to solve the forced vibration problem of composite skew plates. The effect of transverse shear and rotary inertia was incorporated in the present model. The Newmark-${\beta}$ scheme was adapted to perform time integration from step to step. The $C^0$ FE formulation was implemented to overcome the problem of $C^1$ continuity associated with the cubic variation of thickness coordinate in in-plane displacement fields. The numerical studies showed that the present 2D FE model predicts the result close to the analytical results. Many new results varying different parameter such as skew angles, boundary conditions, etc. were presented.

  • The ionic conductivity of cubic solid solutions in the system $Y_{2}O_{3}-ZrO_{2}$ prepared by SHS was examined. Conductivity-temperature data obtained at $1000^{\circ}C$ in atmosphere of low oxygen partial pressure ($10^{-40}$ atm) for $Y_{2}O_{3}-ZrO_{2}$ cubic solid solutions indicated that these materials could be reduced, the degree of reduction being related to the measuring electric field. At low impressed fields no reduction was observed. Thus, these conductivity data give a transference number for the oxygen ion in $Y_{2}O_{3}-ZrO_{2}$ cubic solid solutions greater than 0.99.

  • The steady-state, incompressible and three-dimensional numerical analysis was carried out to investigate the internal flow fields characteristics according to wind tunnel contraction type. The turbulence model used in this study is a realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ modified from the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. As a results, the distribution of the axial mean velocity components along the central axis of the flow model is very similar to the ASME and BE types, and the cubic and cosine types. When the flow passes through the interior space of the analytical models, the flow resistance at the inlet of the plenum chamber is the largest at BS type contraction, but the smallest at cubic type contraction. The boundary layer thickness is the smallest in the cosine type contraction as the axial distance increases. The maximum turbulent kinetic energy in the test section is the smallest in the order of the contraction of cubic type and cosine type. Comprehensively, cubic type contraction is the best choice for wind tunnel performance, and cosine type contraction can be the next best solution.

One side wall was kept at a constant temperature (25 $^{\circ}C$), and the opposite side wall was also held at a constant but lower temperature (20 $^{\circ}C$). The magnetic fields of various magnitude were applied up and down by permanent magnets. We measured temperatures at 5 points which are the most suitable places in cavity by the analysis record. The thermo-sensitive liquid crystal film (R20C5A) was utilized in order to visualize wall-temperature distributions. Several kinds of experiments were carried out in order to clarify the influence of direction and intensity of magnetic fields on the natural convection. It was found that the natural convection of a magnetic fluids could be controlled by the direction and intensity of the magnetic fields.

  • Three-dimensional natural convection from a discrete flush-mounted circular heat source on the bottom of a cubic enclosure was studied by using a holographic interferometric tomography. The heat source was located at the off-center of the bottom plate so that three-dimensional temperature field can be achieved. A set of multidirectional holographic interferogram was recorded by employing a double-reference beam, double-exposure holographic technique in order to eventually reconstruct the temperature fields. The recorded interferometric data appear good enough to be further processed to extract optical pathlength data from them and finally reconstruct the temperature fields. A complete analysis of the temperature fields including the field reconstructions and comparison with thermocouple measurements is underway and will be reported shortly.
