An improved formulation for spatial stability md free vibration of thin-walled curved beams with variable curvature and non-symmetric cross sections are presented based on the displacement field considering the second order terms of finite semitangential rotations. By introducing Vlasov's assumptions, the total potential energy is derived from the principle of linearized virtual work for a continuum. In this formulation, all displacement parameters and the warping function are defined at the centroid axis so that the coupled terms of bending and torsion are added to the elastic strain energy. Also, the potential energy due to initial stress resultants is consistently derived corresponding to the semitangential rotation and moment. The cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions for development of the curved thin-walled beam element having eight degrees of freedom. In order to illustrate the accuracy and practical usefulness of this study, . numerical solutions for free vibration of arches are presented and compared with resells of other researchers and solutions analyzed by the ABAQUS's shell element.
A tornado changes its wind speed and direction rapidly; therefore, it is difficult to study the effects of a tornado on buildings in a wind tunnel. In this work, the status of the tornado-structure interaction is surveyed by numerical simulation. Various models of the tornado wind field found in literature are surveyed. Three-dimensional computer modeling work using the turbulence model based on large eddy simulation is presented. The effect of tornado on a cubic building is considered for this study. The Navier-Stokes (NS) equations are approximated by finite difference method, and solved by a semi-implicit procedure. The force coefficients are plotted in time to study the effect of the Rankine-Combined Vortex Model. Some flow visualizations are also reported to understand the flow behavior around the cube.
structure of matters of Lambda cold dark matter (CDM) cosmology on detailed numerical simulations. To accomplish our research goal, we have added the following baryonic physics on the existing cosmological hydrodynamic code, Gadget-2: 1) radiative heating and cooling, 2) reionization of the Universe and UV shielding, 3) star formation, 4) energy and metallicity feedback by supernova. In addition, we included cluster formation to distinguish clustered star formation inside the very high density gas clumps from the field star formation. Our simulations cover a cubic box of a side length 4Mpc/h with 130 million particles. The mass of each particles is $3.4{\times}104Msun$, thus the GCs can be resolved with more than hundreds particles. We discuss various properties of the GCs such as mass function, specific frequency, baryon-to-dark matter ratio, metallicity, spatial distribution, and orbit eccentricity distribution as functions of redshift. We also discuss how the formation and evolution of the GCs are affected by UV shielding.
In this paper, we particularly deal with no $F_p$-rational two-torsion elliptic curves, where $F_p$ is the prime field of the characteristic p. First we introduce a shift product-based polynomial transform. Then, we show that the parities of (#E - 1)/2 and (#E' - 1)/2 are reciprocal to each other, where #E and #E' are the orders of the two candidate curves obtained at the last step of complex multiplication (CM)-based algorithm. Based on this property, we propose a method to check the parity by using the shift product-based polynomial transform. For a 160 bits prime number as the characteristic, the proposed method carries out the parity check 25 or more times faster than the conventional checking method when 4 divides the characteristic minus 1. Finally, this paper shows that the proposed method can make CM-based algorithm that looks up a table of precomputed class polynomials more than 10 percent faster.
Wind flow perturbations, recirculations and turbulence generated by buildings often dominate air pollutant distributions around buildings. This paper describes dispersion of contaminants in the vicinity of a building by solving the concentration equation based on previously simulated wind flow field. Turbulence closure is achieved by using the standard k-e two-equation model. The paper shows application of the CIP method for solving a species concentration equation of contaminant gas around a rectangular building for two different sources under conditions of neutral atmospheric stratification. Results have been compared to the experimental data and the previous numerical results by hybrid scheme. The computational results of concentration profiles by the CIP method agree well with experimental data.
There are several advantages to make use of a bridge pier for the tidal power generation. Current velocity increases near the pier, therefore the tidal power generation becomes more efficient because the power is proportional to the cubic of the current velocity. The pier is convenient for access and maintenance of the hydraulic turbine and the power unit. The project is now underway at the Ikitsuki Bridge in Tatsuno-Seto Strait of Nasasaki Prefecture, where the tidal current was measured by the bottom mount ADCP for almost one year. Model experiments for a Darrieus water turbine with two and three straight blades were carried out in the circulating water channel, in which the power coefficients of the turbine were obtained as a function of blade section and the attaching angle of a blade to the rotor. Those experimental results are discussed to obtain an optimum Darrieus turbine for tidal power generation.
In this paper, we present a study of the structure and electro-optic behavior of hybrid liquid-crystal-silica sphere composite photonic crystals, formed by filling the (26% by volume) void space of fee (face centered cubic) silica opals infiltrated with a nematic liquid crystal. Three dimensional photonic crystals of visible range were fabricated via a self assembly method of silica spheres of submicron diameter. The expected fee structure was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the dehydrated crystal with glass removed. The photonic crystal exhibited significant electric-field-induced shift of the optical Bragg reflection peak when the liquid crystal has the long molecular axis oriented parallel to the sphere surfaces.
In this paper, electro-optic characteristics of PLZT 7.6/70/30 composition in MPB regions, which antiferroelectric and ferroelectric phases coexist together, were studied. As sintering times are increased, Curie temperatures ore linearly decreased. And the antiferroelectric phase becomes more stronger when Curie temperatures are decreased. The crystal structure investigated by lie of X-ray analysis is proved to cubic in the thermally depoled specimen and rhombohedral in the poled specimen. Accordingly, the applicability of 7.6/70/30 specimen as image storage and display device is expected by the method for applying field induced reversible transitions between antiferroelectric(AFE) and ferroelectric(FE) phase.
In this paper, we propose a system which can display panoramic-stereopic image for tele-operating excavator. the system was implemented by using center-viewpoint corresponding algorithm and image mosaic process. We could obtain remarkable result from the survey among the ex-pert of excavator. We also design a control station with RF transfer module, H.264 codec module and suggested algorithm. Especially, our system shows a superb performance on cubic effect and presence sense of a field of excavating work.

The effects of In and Ga contents on characteristics of InGaZnO (IGZO) films grown by a sol-gel method and their thin film transistors (TFTs) have been investigated. Excess In incorporation into IGZO enhances the field effect mobilities of the TFTs due to the increase in conducting path ways, and decreases the grain size and the surface roughness of the films because more $InO_2^-$ ions induce cubic stacking faults with IGZO. Ga incorporation into results in decrease in carrier concentration of films and off-current of TFTs since Ga ion forms stronger chemical bonds with oxygen than Zn and In ions, acting as a carrier killer.
