  • The present study of these experiments are close examination of spray characteristics that are continuous liquid jet and modulated pressure pulse liquid jet. The experiments were conducted using water, over a range of cross-flow velocities from 42${\sim}$136 m/s, with injection frequencies of 35.7${\sim}$166.2 Hz. Between continuous cross-flow jet and pressure pulsed cross-flow jet for characteristics of penetration, breakup point, spray angle and macro spray shape are investigated experimentally. In cross-flow field, main parameter of liquid jet for breakup was cross-flow stream rather than pressure pulse frequency. As oscillation of the periodic pressure that could make liquid jet moved up and down, the mixing efficiency was increased. Also, a bulk of liquid jet puff was detected at upper field of liquid surface. So, this phenomenon has a good advantage of mixing spray from concentration of center area to outer area. Because of pressure pulsation frequency, an inclination of SMD for the structured layer was evanescent. Cross-sectional characteristics of SMD at downstream area were non-structured distributions. Then cross-sectional characteristics of SMD size were about same tendency over a range that is effect of spray mixing. The tendency of volume flux value for various frequency of pressure pulse was same distribution. And volume flux was decreased when the frequency of pressure pulse increase.

  • In this paper, the swept source optical coherence tomography system has realized using a free-space interferometer based on a beam splitter. Personal computer has completed the control for tunable wavelength laser digitally and the B-scan motor as well. From each experiment for an onion and a salmon egg, we confirmed that the in vivo epidermal cross-sectional images for them can be obtained appropriately.

  • This paper tries to estimate price and quality effects in US cross - sectional fisheries demand analysis using 1987-88 Nationwide Food Consumption Survey Data. The estimated results support to the hypothesis of quality effects in cross - sectional prices, which had been already proven by Cox and Wohlgenant(1986). But Since all zero observations for the respective incomes, expenditures and quantities are eliminated for the ease of computation, it may yield inconsistent estimates from selectivity bias.

  • Sectional added masses of an elastic beam vibrating vertically on the free surface in higher harmonic modes are evaluated. Hydrodynamic interactions between neighboring sections, which strip theory ignores, are considered for modal wave lengths of the order of magnitude of cross-sectional dimensions of the body. An approximate solution of modified Helmholtz equation which becomes a singular perturbation problem at small wave lengths is secured to get an analytic expression for added masses attending higher harmonic modes. As a bound of the present theory, the modified Helmholtz equation is solved for the long flat plate vibrating at high frequency on the water surface without any limitations on modal frequency. Finally, extensive series of numerical calculations are carried out for ship-like forms. It is found that when modal wave length is comparable to or shorter than a typical cross-sectional dimension of a body, sectional interaction effects are large which result in considerable reductions in added masses. For a fuller section, the ratio of added mass reduction is greater. In the limit of vanishing sectional area, the added masses approach to that of flat plate of equal beam. It is shown that the added mass distribution for a Legendre modal from can be determined form the present theory and that the results agree with the extensive three-dimensional determination of Vorus and Hilarides.

  • Modern helicopter rotor blades with non-homogeneous cross sections, composed of anisotropic material, require highly sophisticated structural analysis because of various cross sectional geometry and material properties. They may be subjected by the combined axial, bending, and torsional loading, and the dynamic and static behaviors of rotor blades are seriously influenced by the structural coupling under rotating condition. To simplify the analysis procedure using one dimensional beam model, it is necessary to determine the principal coordinate of the rotor blade. In this study, a method for the determination of the principal coordinate including elastic and shear centers is presented, based upon continuum mechanics. The scheme is verified by comparing the results with confirmed experimental results.

  • This paper deals with free vibrations of the circular curved beams with constant volume, whose cross sectional shapes are the circular solid cross-sections. Volumes of the objective beam are always held in constant regardless shape functions of the cross-sectional radius. The shape functions are chosen as the linear, parabolic and sinusoidal ones. Ordinary differential equations governing free vibrations of such beam are derived and solved numerically for determining the natural frequencies. In numerical examples, the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped end constraints are considered. As the numerical results, relationships between frequency parameters and various beam parameters such as rise ratio, section ratio, elasticity ratio, volume ratio, slenderness ratio and taper type are reported in tables and figures.

  • When a shock wave arrives at an open end of tube, an impulse wave is discharged from the tube exit and complicated flow is formed near tube exit. The flow field is influenced by the cross-sectional geometry of tube exit, such as circular, square, rectangular, trapezoid and etc. In the current study, three-dimensional propagation characteristics of impulse wave discharged from the tube exit with non-circular cross section are numerically investigated using a CFD method. Total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme is used to solve the three-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Euler equations. Computations are performed for the Mach numbers of the incident shock wave $M_{s}$ below 1.5. The results obtained show that the peak pressure of the impulse wave and propagation directivity depends on the cross-sectional geometry of tube exit and the Mach number of incident shock wave.

  • Optimum cross-sectional shape of an automotive disc brake was developed based on FEM thermal analyses and the Taguchi method. Frictional heat flux and convection heat transfer coefficients were first calculated using equations and applied to the disc to calculate accurate temperature distribution and thermal deformations under realistic braking conditions. Maximum stress was generated in an area with highest temperature under pads and near the hat of ventilated disc and vanes. The SN ratio from Taguchi method and MINITAB was applied to obtain the optimum cross-sectional design of a disc brake on the basis of thermal deformations. The optimum cross-section of a disc can reduce thermal deformation by 15.2 % compared to the initial design.

  • Several non-response imputation methods are suggested, however, mainly cross-sectional imputations are studied and applied to this analysis. A simple and common imputation method for panel data is the cross-wave regression imputation or carry-over imputation as a special case of cross-wave regression imputation. This study suggests a multiple imputation method combined time series analysis and cross-sectional multiple imputation method. We compare this method and the cross-wave regression imputation method using MSE, MAE, and Bias. The 2008 monthly labor survey data is used for this study.
