Family Relationship Predictors of Parent-Adolescent Conflict: Cross-Cultural Similarities and Differences

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine how dimensions of socialization practice and relationship quality may function to manage or increase parent-adolescent conflict. Of particular concern was to examine the comparative efficacy of potential predictors of parent-adolescent conflict across three cultural groups consisting of samples from Mainland China, Russia, and the U.S. as well as across gender-of-parent/gender-of-adolescent dyads from each culture. Findings from a sample of 1,365 adolescents indicated that adolescents' perceptions of parental influences on parent-adolescent conflict differ across cultural groups and gender-of-adolescent. The use of punitive behavior by parents was the strongest and most consistent predictor of parent-adolescent conflict across all cultural groups and gender dyads, suggesting that a general pattern exists for punitiveness to increase parent-adolescent conflict cross-culturally. Perceptions of support, monitoring, conformity to parents, and autonomy from parents influenced parent-adolescent conflict within some of the cultures and selectively for adolescent boys and girls.

Comparison of Gene Expression Patterns in Longissimus dorsi of Pigs between the High-parent Heterosis Cross Combination andrace×Large White and the Mid-parent Heterosis Cross Combination Large White×Meishan

  • In order to detect the molecular mechanism of heterosis in pigs, the mRNA differential display technique was performed to investigate the differences in gene expression of pig's Longissimus dorsi between the high-parent heterosis cross combination Landrace${\times}$Large White and the mid-parent heterosis cross combination Large White${\times}$Meishan. Three pig purebreds, Large White, Meishan, and Landrace and four types of reciprocal $F_1$ hybrids were analyzed using nine 3'-end anchored primers in combination with ten 5'-end arbitrary primers and nearly 7,000 reproducible bands were examined. The patterns of gene expression of each cross combination were analyzed and eight common patterns (fifteen kinds) were found. When the results from the two cross combinations were put together and compared, eight different typical expression patterns were observed, these indicated that the patterns of gene expression of these two cross combinations had obvious differences. Gene expression correlation and cluster analyses of the two cross combinations indicated that the gene expression of the mid-parent heterosis cross combination was correlated with maternal effect, but in the high-parent heterosis cross combination, paternal effect acted in the gene expression of the hybrids or the gene expression of the hybrids was biased towards one parent.

Confirmation of $F_1$ Hybridity Using RAPD Markers in Soybean

  • Molecular markers are useful to confirm the hybridity of F1 plant derived from cross of two homozygous parents with similar morphological traits. RAPD markers were used to test F1 hybrid plant obtained from cross of two homozygous soybean (Glycine max) parents. Fl plant for cross I was made from the mating of Hobbit87 (female) and L63-1889 (male) and Fl plant for cross II was obtained from the mating of H1053 (female) and L63-1889 (male). Selfing plant per each cross was also obtained. Among 20 Operon primers used, OPA04 and OPA09 show polymorphism between cross I and II parent. Band in size 1Kb of OPA04 and 2.1Kb of OPA09 primer was polymorphic band. This fragment identified Fl hybrid plant and selfing plant in cross I and II. Female parent Hobbit87 in cross I and H1053 in cross II has no this fragment (recessive allele). However, male parent L63-1889 and Fl hybrid plant in cross I and II has this size of polymorphic band (dominant allele). This indicated that Fl hybrid and selfing plants were detected by RAPD marker before phenotypic marker would be used to identify Fl hybridity. Amplification products of selfing plant for cross I and II were completely same to the those of female parent. When mature, flower color of Fl hybrid plant in cross I and II was purple and flower color of selfing plant in cross I and II was white. Purple flower is dominant trait. Fl hybridity was successfully detected at very early growth stage using RAPD marker. Therefore, RAPD marker can be used broadly to confirm Fl hybridity in many crops.

부모-자녀 관련 국내학술지 논문의 연구 동향 (Analysis of Trends in Research on Parent-Child Relationship)

  • This analysis of trends in research on parent-child relationships published in Korean journals focused on child and family studies. Analysis was for research frequency, contents, and methodology. Results showed that 186 research articles on parent-child relationship were published between 2000 and 2006. The main content of research was the effects of parent-child relationships on child development. Most of the studies used methods categorized as quantitative data and cross-sectional surveys.

성별에 따른 가구형태가 건강상태에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Family Structure and Sex on Health Status)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the health and socioeconomic status of single-parent and partnered families, and examined the intersection between sex and single-parent status focusing on inequalities of health and socioeconomic status. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using the data from the nationally representative 2005 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 14,827 respondents had custody of their own children and other family members (13,943 were coupled families and 891 were single-parent). Results: Our result indicate that single-parent had poorer health status and were more likely to have lower educational attainment, lower household income, no home ownership and be unemployed. However, the association between single-parent status and socioeconomic and health inequality were in divergent ways according to sex. The most socioeconomically disadvantaged were single-parent women. Inequalities in health differ markedly by sex but vary little according to single-parent status. Conclusions: An uneven distribution of socioeconomic resources might help us to understand why single-parent, both women and men, have worse health than parents who live together. Previously recognized sex gap with regard to health status also might help us to understand the difference in health between single-parent men and single-parent women found here.

딸기 내저온성 품종육성에 적합한 교배조합 선발 (Selection of Cross Combination for Development New Cultivar of Low Temperature Tolerant in Strawberry)

  • 딸기의 내저온성 품종육성을 위한 우수 교배친 선발을 위해 '다홍', '감홍', '매향', '설향'을 자방친으로 이용하고 '다홍', '감홍', '매향', '설향', '수경', '선홍', '원교3111호' 등을 화분친으로 하여 24조합을 작성하고 조합능력 검정을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 자방친을 '다홍'으로 하였을 경우에는 전체조합에서 과중이 작아지는 경향이 있었고, '감홍'은 생존율이 낮아 두 품종은 자방친으로 적합하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 화분친에 있어서도 '선홍'을 화분친으로 이용한 경우 경도가 낮아지는 경향이 있었고, '수경'은 기형과가 다소 발생하는 경향이 있어 화분친으로 적합하지 않았다. 그러나 '매향'과 '설향'을 자방친으로 이용할 경우 발아율과 생존율이 상대적으로 높았고, 과실품질이 우수하고 수량성도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 '매향'과' 설향'이 자방친으로 우수하였고, 화분친으로는'매향', '설향', ' 원교3111호' 등이 우수하였다. 특히, '매향' × '설향', '설향' × '매향', '설향' × '원교3111호' 조합은 당도, 과실크기, 경도, 수량성 측면에서 우수성이 인정되기 때문에 내저온성 교배조합으로 적합하다고 판단된다.

파종양식과 재식밀도가 옥수수 변형단교잡종 교배친의 생육 및 채종량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Planting Pattern and Plant density on Seed Production of a Modified Single Cross Corn Hybrid)

  • 옥수수 변형단교잡종 채종재배에 있어서 웅주간파 ♂♀ 1 : 2, 2 : 4 등의 파종양식과 재식밀도가 종자친의 생육 및 채종량과 화분친의 웅수특성에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 1983년 제천옥의 종자친 KS8/B68과 화분친 KS5를 공시하여 시험한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 개화기 및 간장은 파종양식이나 재식밀도에 크게 영향을 받지 않았고 종자친의 착수고는 파종양식간에는 차이가 없었으나 재식밀도가 증가함에 따라 직선적으로 증가하였다. 2. 종자친의 100주당 수수는 10a당 종자친 3,500본에서는 파종양식간에 비슷하나 5,000본 이상에서는 2 : 4 재배보다 웅주간파나 1 : 2재배에서 많았으며 재식밀도 증가에 따라 파종양식에 관계없이 직선적으로 감소하였다. 수당입수는 파종양식간에는 차이가 없고 파종양식과 재식밀도의 상호작용도 유의하지 않았으나 재식밀도 증가에 따라 작아졌다. 100입중은 25g 내외로 처리간 차이가 없었다. 3. 화분친의 화분이 제한되지 않은 조건에서의 채종량은 웅주간파, 1 : 2재배, 2 : 4재배순으로 많은 경향이였고 10a당 종자 친 3,500본에서 5,000본으로 증가시킴에 따라 크게 증가하나 5,000본에서 6,500본으로 재식밀도 증가에 따른 채종량 증가는 크지 않았다. 4. 화분친의 웅수장과 웅수당 영화수는 1 : 2나 2 :4재배에 비하여 웅주간파 재배에서 작았고 재식밀도 증가에 따라 1 : 2 및 2 : 4재배에서는 크게 감소하였으나 2: 4재배에서는 유의하게 작아지지 않았다. 5. 변형단교잡종의 채종에는 1 : 2나 2 : 4재배의 10a당 종자친 5,000본 재식이 적합할 것으로 생각된다.

Hybridization Using a New Male-sterile Germplasm as the Female Parent in Chinese Jujube

  • This study identified a new male-sterile germplasm of Chinese jujube, named male-sterile No. 2 (JMS2), and achieved controlled hybridization using that germplasm as the female parent. The anthers of JMS2 before flower bud opening became shrunken, dingy yellow and much smaller than normal ones, and they changed to brown after anthesis. No pollen was observed in anthers of JMS2 and its male-sterile trait remained stable over different years. A total of 1,642 fruits were obtained from ten intra- and interspecific cross combinations via controlled hybridization from 2008 to 2012 using JMS2 as the female parent. Of those, 27.3% produced seeds, on average (0-72.6%). The rate of fruit with seed (RFS) was significantly different between cross combinations or years. Compared to other cross combinations, the RFS in the combination of JMS2 ${\times}$ 'Xingguang' (a Chinese jujube cultivar with high resistance to jujube witches' broom disease) and JMS2 ${\times}$ 'Xing16' (a sour jujube genotype) remained high in different years and reached means of 48.7 and 58.1%, respectively. Finally, 150 plantlets were regenerated from immature embryos, and 51 of them were randomly selected and identified to be authentic hybrids using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers. This is the first report of hybrids obtained from a cross between Chinese jujube and sour jujube.

고등학생자녀와 부모간의 응집성 및 이에 대한 가족구조변인의 영향 (A Study on Parent-Adolescent Cohesion and the Influences of Family Structure Variables on It)

  • The purposes of this study are to secure the desirable parent-adolescent cohesion, to find out the real parent-adolescent cohesion and to investigate the influences of family structure variables on the parent-adolescent cohesion. The data are obtained from a sample of 364 high school students in Seoul by using questionaires. X2-test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe-test, Kruskal-Wallis test and difference of percentages with cross tabulation are used for data analysis. The major findings are as follows : 1) The high parent-adolescent cohesion is found to be desirable. 2) The mother-adolescent cohesion is higher than that of the father-adolescent. 3) The father-son cohesion is influenced by siblings existence, while the mother-son cohesion is influenced by siblings existence and birth order. The father-daughter cohesion is influenced by birth order and difference of age between mother and daughter. However the mother-daughter cohesion is influenced by the presence of the arents and difference of age between mother and daughter. 4) The results discribed in 3) are changed considerably by controlling the open-communication variable.

배추와 무의 속간 잡종육성을 위한 배주배양시 배 발아에 미치는 BA와 GA의 효과 (Effect of BA and GA on Embryo Germination from Ovule Culture in Intergeneric Hybrids between Brassica and Raphanus)

  • Brassica와 Raphanus 간에 속간 교잡종을 육성하기 위해서 34개의 교배 조합을 설정한 다음 수분 12일이 경과된 배주를 BA와 GA 1.0 ㎎/L가 첨가된 MS배지에 접종하고 배의 발아율을 조사하였다. BA나 GA 첨가는 배의 발아에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았다. 무 속의 '내병총태'와 '중국청피'를 부계로 교잡한 조합에서 배의 발아율이 낮았으나 갓(Brassica juncea)을 부계로 교잡한 조합에서는 비교적 배의 발아율이 높았다. 이러한 결과는 배주배양시 배지에 첨가한 casein hydrolysate, malt extract, BA, kinetin 및 glutamine이 배의 발아에 미치는 영향보다는 부계나 모계의 교잡조합에 따라 배의 발아율에 상당한 차이가 있다는 것을 의미한다.
