  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of adolescents' media literacy, self-esteem, and cognitive related to on critical media understanding ability using data from the Korea Media Panel Survey 2020. As a result of the study, PC literacy and smart device literacy influenced adolescents' critical media literacy. The mediating effect of cognitive needs between Internet literacy and critical media understanding ability using PCs and smart devices was significant, and the mediating effect of self-esteem between email literacy using PCs and smart devices and critical media understanding ability was significant. Therefore, to improve adolescents' critical media understanding ability, it is necessary to educate them to use PCs and smart devices as tools for interaction. To this end, it is desirable for information and technology subjects to focus on media literacy to increase cognitive needs, and for other subjects, cooperative learning using media is desirable.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a media literacy program for young children and explore its applicability and effects on young children's media literacy learning. Media literacy, as a concept combined literacy, or the ability to read and write, with media, is about more than just consuming information or understanding technological aspects of media, but is defined as expanded information and communication skills that are responsive to the changing nature of information in human environment. In order to develop media literacy program for young children, the goal and objectives, content areas, teaching methods and materials, and evaluation of media literacy program were searched and established. The subjects of this study consisted of a total of 51 children at age 5-6. The research had been implemented for 8 weeks integrated into daily activities of kindergarten children. Data were collected by interviewing with children using animations, and children-made-cartoons during the pre- and post-tests, and were analyzed quantitatively using rating criteria. The results of this study showed that there were significant differences found in children's abilities to reception, critical thinking, and creativity. This research made a major contribution to provision of a ground for developing an effective media literacy program for young children.

  • The purpose of the study was to develop the Arduino based STEAM instruction materials for creative engineering design class. PDIE model was used in this study. We developed a STEAM lesson plan and a STEAM lesson worksheet for a total of six sessions through the steps of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation. The validity of the instruction materials was evaluated by the 10 experts using a survey. The instruction materials were applied to the class (52 students attended) of the creative engineering designs unit in technology and home economics subject. The class satisfaction and the creative solving-problem ability were examined after the calss. The class satafacition was high as the average of 10 item was 4.57 (out of 5). The paired t-test was conducted to compare the means of the creative solving-problem ability. It was observed that 'understanding and mastery of knowledge, thought, function and skills in a specific domain', 'divergent thinking', 'critical and logical thinking' and ' motivational factors' were significantly increased after the class. The instruction materials develped in this study were successfully designed to enhance the creative solving-problem ability by designing creative tasks and to intrique the interest by adding visual and auditory stimuli with the Arduino.
