AC loss is an important issue in the design of high-$T_c$ superconducting power cables which consist of a number of Bi-2223 tapes wound on a former. In the cables, the tapes have different critical currents intrinsically. And they are electrically connected to each other and current leads. In this work we have prepared a conductor composed of three Bi-2223 tapes with different critical currents. The critical current characteristics in the conductor have experimentally investigated. The results show that for uniform current distributions the conductor's critical current is proportional to the critical current of the Bi-2223 tape to which a voltage lead is attached. However it depends on the current non-uniformity parameter in the conductor rather than the tape's critical currents for nonuniform current distributions.
Various studies on the critical flow models for sub-cooled and/or saturated water were reviewed, especially on Fauske, Moody, and Henry for basic theoretical models; Zaloudek for insight into physical phenomena for a critical flow in an orifice type flow path; Sozzi & Sutherland for a critical flow test of saturated and sub-cooled water at high pressure for orifice and nozzles; and a Marviken test on a full-scale critical flow test. In addition, critical flow tests of sub-cooled water for the break simulators in integral effect test (IET) facilities were also investigated, and a hybrid concept using Moody's and Fauske's models was considered by the authors. In the comparison of the models for the selected test data, discussions of the effect of the diameters, predictions of the critical flow models, and design aspects of break simulator for SBLOCA scenarios in the IET facilities were presented. In the effect of diameter on the critical flow rate with respect to all dimensional scales, it was concluded that the effect of diameter was found irrespective of diameter sizes. In addition, the diameter effect on slip ratio affecting the critical flow rate was suggested. From a comparison of the critical flow models and selected test data, the Henry-Fauske model of the MARS-KS code was found to be the best model predicting the critical flow rate for the selected test data under study.
This study is to propose the temporal pattern of design rainfall which causes maximum peak discharge, and to analyze the relation of catchment characteristics and critical durations for gauged midsize catchment. Hydrologic analysis has done over the 44 midsize catchments with 50-5,000$\textrm{km}^2$. The type of temporal pattern of design rainfall which causes maximum peak discharge has resulted in Huff's 4 quartile distribution method for effective rainfall(AMC III) The peak discharges of 24hr rainfall duration are similar to those of critical duration for 50-600$\textrm{km}^2$, and the peak discharges of 48hr rainfall duration are similar to those of critical duration for 600-5,000$\textrm{km}^2$. Therefore, if the proper rainfall intensity formula is selected, 24hr or 48hr rainfall duration may be regarded as the critical duration of midsize catchment. A simple regression equation is derived by using a catchment area and critical duration with high correlation for the case of effective rainfall(AMC III). Therefore, it can be used to determine the critical duration of ungauged catchment with 50-5,000$\textrm{km}^2$. Also, dimensionless regression equation is derived by using characteristic values of unit hydrograph.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the critical duration between detention facility and flood control facility of small size catchment. 4 small size catchments are applied for hydrological analysis and rainfall excess is computed by using the NRCS Runoff Curve Number method. The critical duration of detention facility and flood control facility is evaluated using the concept of allowable release rate. The conclusions studied in this study are as follows; (1) The type of temporal pattern of design rainfall which causes maximum storage ratio has resulted in Huff's 2 quartile in case of the use of the concept of allowable release rate. (2) Based on (1) of conclusion, the critical durations of flood control facility are similar to those of detention facility, which is used for uncontrolled single detention pond.
In a SCWR (SuperCritical pressure Water cooled Reactor), the coolant temperature initially at below the pseudo-critical temperature at the bottom of a reactor core increases as the coolant flows upward through the sub-channels of the fuel assemblies, and it finally becomes higher than the pseudo-critical temperature when it leaves the reactor core. At certain conditions, heat transfer deterioration occurs near the pseudo-critical temperature and it may cause a drastic rise of the fuel surface temperature resulting a fuel failure. Therefore, an accurate estimation of the heat transfer coefficient is very important for the thermal-hydraulic design of a reactor core. An experiment on heat transfer to the vertically upward flowing $CO_2$ at a supercritical pressure in a circular tube were performed at KAERI. The internal diameter of the test section is 6.32 mm, which corresponds to the hydraulic diameter of a sub-channel in the conceptional design proposed by KAERI. The test range of the mass flux is 285 to 1200 kg/m$^2$s and the maximum heat flux is 170 kW/m$^2$. The inlet pressure is maintained at 8.12 MPa, which is 1.1 times the critical pressure. A new correlation, which covers both the normal and deterioration heat transfer regimes was proposed and compared with the estimations by exiting correlations.
The stability of underground openings is a major concern for the safety and productivity of mining operations. Rock mass classification methods provide the basis of many empirical design methods as well as a basis for numerical analysis. Of the many factors which influence the stability of openings, the span of the opening for a given rock mass condition provides an important parameter of design. In this paper, the critical span curves proposed by Lang, the Mathews stability graph method and the modified critical span curve suggested by the authors have been assessed. The modified critical span curve was proposed by using Mathews stability graph method. The modified critical span curve by the author have been used to assess the stability of underground openings in several limestone mines.

This SWHA identifies potential hazardous effects on the software intensive systems and provides a comprehensive and qualitative assessment of the software safety. The purpose of this paper is to identify safety critical functions of software in Military A/C. The identified software hazards associated with the design or function will be evaluated for risks and operational constraint to further improve the software design requirement, analysis and testing efforts for safety critical software. This common SWHA, the first time analysis in KOREA, was review all avionics OFP(Operational Flight Program), and focus only on software segments which are safety critical. This paper provides a important understanding between the customer and developer as to how the software safety for the Military A/C will be accomplished. It will also provide the current best solution which may as one consider the necessary step in establishing a credible and cost-effective software safety program.
A single-beam gamma densitometer is utilized to measure the average void fraction in a small diameter stainless steel pipe under critical flow conditions. A typical design of a single-beam gamma densitometer is composed of a sealed gammaray source, a collimator, a scintillation detector, and a data acquisition system that includes an amplifier and a single channel analyzer. It is operated in the count mode and can be calibrated with a test pipe and various types of phantoms made of polyethylene. A good average void fraction is obtained for a small diameter pipe with various flow regimes of the core, annular, stratified, and bubbly flows. Several factors influencing the performance of the gamma densitometer are examined, including the distance between the source and the detector, the measuring time, and the ambient temperature. The void fraction is measured during an adiabatic downward two-phase critical flow in a vertical pipe. The test pipe has an inner diameter of 10.9 mm and a thickness of 3.2 mm. The average void fraction was reasonably measured for a two-phase critical flow in the presence of nitrogen gas.
Objective: This study proposes the application of Ecological Interface Design(EID) method that is effective for situation awareness in digitalized environment. Background: While cognitive interface design method such as Information Rich Display(IRD) is simply focused on existing information for user, EID method helps users' resource to be solved to higher ion task such as diagnostic and problem solving. Method: Using EID method based on Work Domain Analysis (WDA), it was analyzed and designed for Steam Generator(SG) Water Level control process in a digitalized Main Control Room of Nuclear Power Plant. Proposed EID example is evaluated through interviews by expert & operator. Results: The result of expert & operator showed that EID display might give an aid for operator's decision. Conclusion: The results can reduce critical accidental damage that occurred due to cognitive load and so critical human error. Application: This study may be impact on situation awareness study for digitalized interface design.
This study presents analysis results for the hybrid system combining solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine. Two different system layouts(an ambient pressure system and pressurized system) are considered and their design performance are comparatively investigated taking into account critical design factor, the most critical parameter such as turbine inlet temperature, gas turbine pressure ratio, temperature difference at the fuel cell and fuel cell operating temperature are considered as design constraints. Performance variations according to system layout and design parameters are examined in energetic view point.
