Unlike the extrinsic Modern Functionalist, Louis I. Kahn, a modern American architect, had been pursued intrinsic architectural nature based on historicity; The Essence of Architecture, during his lifetime. That is the reason why he is generally called as one of frontiers toward Post-Modern Architecture. However, the actual meaning of his 'The Essence of Architecture' is so vague and unclear until today, because not only his complex personal thought and career but various and subjective interpretation by so many later architects and architectural theorists. In the context, this paper attempt to reanalyze and clarify Kahn's idea of 'The Essence of Architecture' with the deep and objective view of aesthetics focused on a distinguished contemporary German philosopher, N. Hartman's idea of phenomenological relation and the stratified structure of a work of art.

This paper aims at understanding the Characterics of Architectural Education Methodology in Hannes Meyer's Bauhaus. Through the analysis of his Bauhaus curriculums, writings and works, especially Co-op designs and buildings, this paper investgates the problems caused by functionality, diagramic organization of modern life and sociality, and grasps the meaning of his works. Meyer realized the possibility of Bauhaus education system resulting from mechanical and technological progress, and pursuited the architecture for the proletarian masses. According to analysis, functionality and critical sociality were adopted to criticize bourgeosie humanistic architecture, it reveals Hannes Meyer's architectural Avant-garde strategy.

Recent GPUs have adopted cache memory to benefit general-purpose GPU (GPGPU) programs. However, unlike CPU programs, GPGPU programs typically have considerably less temporal/spatial locality. Moreover, the L1 data cache is used by many threads that access a data size typically considerably larger than the L1 cache, making it critical to bypass L1 data cache intelligently to enhance GPU cache performance. In this paper, we examine GPU cache access behavior and propose a simple hardware-based GPU cache bypassing method that can be applied to GPU applications without recompiling programs. Moreover, we introduce a hybrid method that integrates static profiling information and hardware-based bypassing to further enhance performance. Our experimental results reveal that hardware-based cache bypassing can boost performance for most benchmarks, and the hybrid method can achieve performance comparable to state-of-the-art compiler-based bypassing with considerably less profiling cost.

Due to the proliferation of data being exchanged and the increase of dependency on this data for critical decision-making, it has become imperative to ensure the trustworthiness of the data at the receiving end in order to obtain reliable results. Data provenance, the derivation history of data, is a useful tool for evaluating the trustworthiness of data. Various frameworks have been proposed to evaluate the trustworthiness of data based on data provenance. In this paper, we briefly review a history of these frameworks for evaluating the trustworthiness of data and present an overview of some prominent state-of-the-art evaluation frameworks. Moreover, we provide a comparative analysis of two key frameworks by evaluating various aspects in an executional environment. Our analysis points to various open research issues and provides an understanding of the functionalities of the frameworks that are used to evaluate the trustworthiness of data.

In high education, knowledge is the very important resource and output. Knowledge management is the art of creating additional value from academic knowledge assets. The e-community is the network community, newly created by information communication technology, and the critical place that share and transfer people's the various knowledge and thinking and the effective space that can apply knowledge management. If we construct a convenient and useful e-community in our university, we will be able to increase the student's intellectual needs, and create new knowledge. Web-portal will promote the activity of e-community providing easy to access and personalized web circumstance. The emergence of Internet and Web access to all university services will force institutions to rethik everything. We should reconfigure our academic environment in order to adapt information technology and educational change, and must do change management based on their structure and culture.

장애인 정보서비스가 활발하지 못한 우리 나라 도서관 현실에서 정보기술의 활용은 그 동안 소외되었던 장애인의 정보요구를 충족시키고 오랫동안 누적되어온 장애인 정보서비스의 문제점을 해소시킬 수 있는 해결방안을 제공할 것이다. 본 연구는 시각장애인을 중심으로 우리 나라 도서관의 정보서비스 현황과 문제점, 정보기술을 활용한 시각장애인 정보서비스의 기술적 기반 및 그 활용사례 등을 고찰하여 우리 나라 시각장애인 정보서비스의 개선방안을 제시하였다.

Especially for the system has a big rotor(750 kgf) with high speed(about one mi i lion DNs) such as the pulsed generator, tin selection of the bearing and lubrication method are very important. Local failure of a primary structural component induced by direct air-blast loading may be itself a critical damage and lead to the partial or full collapse of the building. As an extensive research to mitigate blast-induced hazards in steel frame structure, a state-of-art analytical approach or high-fidelity computational nonlinear continuum modeling using computational fluid dynamics was described in this paper. The capability of the approach to produce reasonable blast pressures on a steel wide-flange section column was first evaluated. Parametric studies were conducted to observe the effects of section sizes and boundary conditions on behavior and failure of columns in steel frame structures. This study shows that the analytical approach is reasonable and effective to understand the nature of blast wave and complex interaction between blast loading and steel column behavior.

Design management has become a critical facet of corporate management for leveraging strategic and competitive advantages. In order to identify the pattern and the development of design management studies, we investigated contents of the periodical journals published by Design Management Institute (DMI): the Design Management Review and the Academic Review. An in-depth analysis was performed on 64 themes, 722 articles, and 704 authors of these two journals between 1989 and 2005, and the primary research topics and authorship patterns were identified. Based on these findings, several directions for advancing design management studies were suggested.

This study explored the background of contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture, which newly expresses the aesthetics of communication in the postmodern era. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principle methodology was used to explore the background of the decorative and meaningful contemporary furniture in postmodernism. Thereby, the postmodern concepts of Charles Jencks, Robert Venturi, and Michael Graves were analyzed in terms of their postmodern architecture and furniture. As initiatives of postmodern architecture and furniture, Jencks, Venturi, and Graves explored the pluralism and eclecticism, the decoration, the semantics, and the materials reestablished from the traditions of craft. As a result, their furniture was expressed by various wood and color; the furniture was beautiful, decorative, pluralistic, and eclectic for communicating symbol, metaphor, narrative, and/or humor with people; the furniture has influenced the communicative elements on the contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture design, which shows the blurring of fine arts and craft distinctions.
