입공결함(人工缺陷)에 의한 AE발생원(發生原) 위치표정(位置標定)과 신호해석(信號解析) (AE Source Location and Evaluation of Artificial Defects)

  • The application and development of on-line monitoring technology of AE to surveillance of crack propagation will contribute to the structural integrity of reactor pressure vessel and piping system. This research has been performed in order to obtain the evaluation technology for source location of AE and the analysis for the AE signal of the welded specimen. AE is detected by 4-channels AE system during pressurization in small pressure vessels. The cracking of artificial defects can be accurately located and categorized in real time. The welded specimens have more events rate and higher amplitude than the weldless less specimens, and the events rate have a peak around the yield point and just before the failure under tensile test.

  • It was well recognized that the damages associated mainly with the aging of civil infrastructures were one of very serious problems for assurance of safety and reliability. Recently carbon fiber sheet(CFS) has been widely used for reinforcement and rehabilitation of damaged concrete beam. However, the fundamental mechanism of load transfer and its load-resistant for carbon fiber sheet reinforced concrete are not fully understood. In this study, three point bending test has been carried out to understand the damage progress and the micro-failure mechanism of CFS reinforced mortars. For this purpose, four different types of specimens are used, that is, mortar, steel bar reinforced mortar, CFS reinforced mortar, and steel bar and CFS reinforced morter. Acoustic Emission(AE) technique was used to evaluate the characteristics of damage progress and the failure mechanism of specimens. in addition, two-dimensional AE source location was also performed to monitor crack initiation and propagation processes for these specimens.

  • It is important from prevention of the malfunction and an important accident by the failuer, to detect a failuer in revolution devices. The acoustic emission(AE) method is expected as means that defects an abnormal phenomenon of revolution devices earlily and utilized. Although a research example by the AE method is reported regarding a gears, little reserch has been conducted using the AE method for running gears in a bending fatigue process of spur gear teeth. Therefore, in this report, with two micro AE sensors attached to the side of the gear, AE was measured in a bending fatigue process of a carburizing gear by using the power circurating-type machine and AE source location in gear teeth were required. By various analysis in these data, the AE characteristics in the fatigue damaging process of the gear tooth were determined.

리벳구멍을 가진 알루미늄 패널에서 피로균열의 탐지와 균열길이 측정 (Detection and Sizing of Fatigue Cracks in Thin Aluminum Panel with Rivet Holes)

  • 항공기 구조를 모사하여 일련의 리벳구멍을 갖는 AA2024-T3 박판 구조를 대상으로 음향방출(AE)을 이용하여 피로균열을 탐지하고, 표면초음파(SAW)를 이용하여 균열길이를 측정하였다. 누적 AE 발생수 곡선은 단균열(short crack)의 발생과 성장에 따라 일정한 간격을 두고 급격히 증가하는 계단식 형태로 나타났으나 피로균열의 성장은 지수함수적인 증가를 보였다. SAW를 이용한 균열길이 측정은 균열길이가 다른 13개의 균열에 대하여 실시하였고, 측정된 데이터를 이동식 현미경으로 측정한 결과와 비교하였다. 그 결과 1 mm 이하의 단균열의 크기를 표면초음파 방법으로 측정하는 것은 거의 불가능하였으나, 1 mm 이상의 균열에서는 비교적 높은 신뢰도로 균열길이 측정이 가능함을 확인함으로써 실용적인 측면에서 이 방법이 유효하게 사용될 수 있는 영역이 존재함을 알 수 있었다.

음향방출기법을 이용한 극저온 환경하에서 초전도 계자코일의 퀀칭탐지 적용에 관한 연구 (Application of Acoustic Emission Technique for On-Line Monitoring of Quench in Racetrack Superconducting Coil at Cryogenic Environment)

  • It is well recently recognized that quench is one of the serious problems for the integrity of superconducting magnets, which is mainly attribute to the rapid temperature rising in the magnet due to some extrinsic factors such as conductor motion, crack initiation etc. In order to apply acoustic emission(AE)echnique effectively to monitor and diagnose superconducting magnets, it is essential to identify the sources of acoustic emission. In this paper, an acoustic emission technique has been used to monitor and diagnose quenching phenomenon in racetrack shaped superconducting magnets at cryogenic environment of 4.2K. For these purposes special attention was paid to detect AE signals associated with the quench of superconducting magnets. The characteristics of AE parameters have been analyzed by correlating with quench number, winding tension of superconducting coil and charge rate by transport current. In addition, the source location of quench in superconducting magnet was also discussed on the basis of correlation between magnet voltage and AE energy.

  • Tensile residual stress happen by difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix is one of the serious problems in metal matrix composite(MMC). In this study, TiNi alloy fiber was used to solve the problem of the tensile residual stress as the reinforced material. TiNi alloy fiber improves the tensile strength of composite by occurring compressive residual stress in matrix using shape memory effect of it. Pre-strain was added to generate compressive residual stress inside TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy(SMA) composite. It was also evaluated the effect of compressive residual stress corresponding to pre-strains variation and volume fraction of TiNi alloy. AE technique was used to clarify the microscopic damage behavior at high temperature and the effect of pre-strain difference of TiNi/A16061 SMA composite. In addition, two dimensional AE source location technique was applied to inspect the crack initiation and propagation in composite.

  • The process of localization of cracks and movement of the fracture process zone(FPZ) was studied using the acoustic-emission(AE) techniques. The rate of AE events and sources of AE activity were studied for mortar and rock specimens loaded in uniaxial compression. A series of transducers could be used to detect and AE activity. Based on the time differences between detection of the event at different transducers, source of AE activity could be detected. The rate of AE events increased sharply before peak load. The highest rate occurred just after peak load was attained. The effective crack length estimated from the modified linear-elastic fracture mechanics seemed consistent with the optical and AE measurements.

A new approach for quantitative damage assessment of in-situ rock mass by acoustic emission

  • The purpose of this study was to propose a new approach for quantifying in situ rock mass damage, which would include a degree-of-damage and the degraded strength of a rock mass, along with its prediction based on real-time Acoustic Emission (AE) observations. The basic approach for quantifying in-situ rock mass damage is to derive the normalized value of measured AE energy with the maximum AE energy, called the degree-of-damage in this study. With regard to estimation of the AE energy, an AE crack source location algorithm of the Wigner-Ville Distribution combined with Biot's wave dispersion model, was applied for more reliable AE crack source localization in a rock mass. In situ AE wave attenuation was also taken into account for AE energy correction in accordance with the propagation distance of an AE wave. To infer the maximum AE energy, fractal theory was used for scale-independent AE energy estimation. In addition, the Weibull model was also applied to determine statistically the AE crack size under a jointed rock mass. Subsequently, the proposed methodology was calibrated using an in situ test carried out in the Underground Research Tunnel at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. This was done under a condition of controlled incremental cyclic loading, which had been performed as part of a preceding study. It was found that the inferred degree-of-damage agreed quite well with the results from the in situ test. The methodology proposed in this study can be regarded as a reasonable approach for quantifying rock mass damage.

강판형교에서의 효율적인 결함검출을 위한 AE기법의 적용 (An Effective Application of AE Technique for the Detection of Defects in Steel Girder Bridges)

  • 본 연구에서는 음향방출기술을 적용한 실내모형실험을 통하여 강판형교의 피로 취약부위에서의 결함을 효과적으로 검출할 수 있는 AE기법을 제시하였다. 잔존수명의 산정에 의해 부재간의 상대적인 취약도를 비교 분석하면 교량의 안전점검시 점검대상의 우선순위와 범위를 결정할 수 있어 보다 효율적인 AE기술의 적용이 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 경제적이고 효율적인 AE기술의 적용을 연구하기 위하여 실시한 실험을 통한 주파수 분석 결과 차량통행시 잡음은 100~200 kHz사이에 집중되었고 균열에서의 AE신호는 400~500kHz 사이에 편중됨을 알았다. 따라서 R30 센서가 강판형교의 결함검출에 적합한 센서라고 판단되었다. 균열을 도입하여 실험한 결과 모의 AE발생원에 의해 결정된 위치 표정방법이 실제 균열이 발생할 때에도 잘 적용되며, 하중의 증가와 균열의 진전길이 등을 AE신호의 발생빈도와 비교한 결과 거의 선형적으로 비례함이 밝혀졌다. 그리고. 강교량과 같은 대형구조물에 적합한 경제적이고 효율적인 위치표정방법도 실험을 통하여 검증하였다.

진동 인텐시티 계측 방법을 이용한 무한보의 손상감지에 관한 기초 연구 (A Feasibility Study on the Damage Detection of Infinite Beams Using the Structural Intensity Measurement Technique)

  • The structural intensities have been applied to understand a source point and the path of vibrational energy flows in interested structures by many researchers. In this paper, a feasibility study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of a damaged beam with a inflicted open crack using the structural intensities. The damaged beam was taken as a continuous system with equivalent bending stiffness and the flexural vibrations were only considered in numerical simulation and experiments. A four(4)-transducer array was used to measure the flexural vibrations of the beam and the structural intensities were estimated by means of cross spectral density method. As a result, the magnitude changes of the structural intensities could be observed in the vicinity of the damage location and a damage index was newly proposed to identify the damage zone. It has been confirmed that the measurement of the structural intensities was simple and effective method to find out the damage zone.
