Polarization Insensitive Fiber-Optic Refractometer based on a Side-polished Fiber Coupler with a Thick Glass Waveguide

  • Side-polished single-mode fiber covered with a thick planar-glass-waveguide is studied as a polarization-insensitive fiber-optic refractometer The properties of the device are very sensitive to the index variation of an upper cladding on top of the overlay waveguide. We investigate the spectral response, the polarization properties, and the relationship between the shift in coupling wavelength and the index variation of an upper cladding layer Index resolutions of the order of 10-4 have been achieved.

New p-type Organic Semiconducting Materials for Organic Transistor (유기트랜지스터용 p-type 유기반도체 개발)

  • We have synthesized a new p-type polymer, poly(9,9'-n-dioctylfluorene-alt-phenoxazine) (PFPO), via the palladium catalyzed coupling reaction. The number average molecular weight ($M_n$) of PFPO was found to be 23,000. PFPO dissolves in common organic solvents such as chloroform and toluene. The UV-visible absorption maximum of the PFPO thin film is clearly blue-shifted with respect to that of F8T2, poly-(9,9'-n-dioctylfluorene-alt-bithiophene). The introduction of the phenoxazine moiety into the polymer system results in better field-effect transistor (FET) performance than that of F8T2. A solution processed PFPO TFT device with a top contact geometry was found to exhibit a hole mobility of $2.7{\times}10^{-4}cm^2/Vs$ and a low threshold voltage of -2 V with high on/off ratio(${\sim}10^4$).

  • STFR were fabricated on the floating membrane which was formed by SOI-micromachining process. The floating membranes having a thickness range of $3{\sim}15{\mu}m$ could be simply formed by micromachining the directly-bonded and thinned SOI substrate. The STFR device fabricated on the $15{\mu}m$-thick membrane showed resonance frequency of fr = 1.65 GHz, coupling coefficient of Keff2 = 2.4 %, and series and parallel quality factors of Qs = 91.7 and Qp = 87.7, respectively.

  • 1.8V,4Gb DDR SDRAM설계 및 제작을 수행하였다. DRAM동작 시 발생하는 Bit Line간 CouplingNoise를 보상하기 위한 Twisted Open Bit Line 구조를 제안하였다. Low Voltage Operation으로 인한 Bit Line Sense Amplifier 의 동작 저하를 보상하기 위한 BL S/A Pre-Sensing 방식 및 Reference Bit Line Voltage Calibration 구조를 제안하였다. Chip면적 증가로 인한 동작속도 감소의 보상을 위해 Repeater Driver 구조를 Core 및 Periphery Circuit에 적용하여 동작 대비 Chip 면적의 증가를 최소화 하도록 하였다.

  • AlN thin films are prepared on Si (111) substrate by RF magnetron sputtering. Two-step deposition method is proposed to obtain AlN thin films with high c-axis (002)-TC value and low surface roughnesses. For all the deposited AlN films, the c-axis (002)-orientation, surface mophology, and roughness are characterized in terms of deposition conditions FEAR devices with Al/AlN/Mo/Si(111) configuration are also fabricated. From the frequency response characteristics, the return loss and electromechanical coupling contant($k_t{^2}$) are estimated.

  • In this paper, the interference in small MIMO antennas having two identical composite right- and left-handed transmission-line(CRLH-TL)-based radiating elements is remarkably decreased. The radiating element has the broadside-capacitive coupling as well as slots to be equivalent to the CRLH-TL to prevent the size from increasing for an LTE high band. The suspended line bridging the two radiating elements is optimized to lower the interference between them down to -23 dB, while the overall MIMO antenna system is compact and its antenna performance is acceptable. The design is tested for 2.5 GHz.

  • In this study, we measured and analyzed electrical noise signals present in devices and systems operated in industrial facilities. Based on the analytic findings, we studied the most effective improvement measures for eliminating such noise signals. Leakage current and ground current generate data interferences in communication systems, and therefore we measured leakage current and ground current. We also measured and analyzed electrical noises in power systems to predict noise pathways and interference routes. Furthermore, we proposed the most effective and reliable improvement measures for blocking off various noise signals and safely eliminating them by improving the internal wiring of the facilities and grounding systems. As a final step, we conducted the proposed improvement measures and confirmed that they helped to improve the operations of the device sand systems in service by re-measuring electrical noise signals and comparing them with those measured before the proposed improvement measures were implemented.

  • In this article, we researched the characteristics of heat transfer of the bimetal for over-current protection device. Bimetal consists of two metals which have a different thermal expansion coefficient. To analyze the heat transfer characteristics, by using a bimetal which has a single metal, we analyzed the temperature distribution when bimetal acts a switch. As usual, heat source is applied to the bimetal. But, in the over-current protection switch, the current become heat source. So, by using the current as source, we performed the magnetic analysis and thermal analysis together.

  • In order to execute the major role as the high density large capacity data storage device, which is one of the major characteristics of DVD(Digital Versatile Disk), there must be a method to effectively absorb the external impact or internal vibration. The DVD which has been developed until now tries to control two different types of vibrations, using only one absorber. But this goes against the independence Axiom of Axiomatic Approach which makes the design to be coupled. And in fat most of the malfunctions occurring during DVD data input/output is due to impact or vibration. Therefore in this paper, the vibration absorption system and operation reliability of DVD will be evaluated with the Axiomatic Approach and plans and feasibility to design an improved vibration absorption system will be provided also based on the Axiomatic Approach.

  • Microfluidic technologies hold high promise and emerge as a potential molecular tool to facilitate the progress of fundamental and applied biomedical researches by enabling miniaturization and upgrading current biological research tools. In this review, we summarize the state of the art of existing microfluidic technologies and its' application for characterizing biophysical properties of individual cells. Microfluidic devices offer significant advantages and ability to handle in integrating sample processes, minimizing sample and reagent volumes, and increased analysis speed. Therefore, we first present the basic concepts and summarize several achievements in new coupling between microfluidic devices and mass spectrometers. Secondly, we discuss the recent applications of microfluidic chips in various biological research field including cellular and molecular level. Finally, we present the current challenge of microfluidic technologies and future perspective in this study field.
