  • Effects of chicken egg white derivatives (EWD and EF-203) on the changes of blood cells and the neutrophil phagocytic activity were examined in the rats. Rats were administered orally with either EWD (200 mg/kg) or EF-203 (200 mg/kg) for 3 days. Thereafter, the changes of blood cell values (RBC, WBC, platelets, PCV, differential count of neutrophils) and the phagocytic activity of neutrophils were evaluated for 7 days.   • The aim of this study was to determine predictive factors for neutropenia after docetaxel-based systemic chemotherapy in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). The study included 40 Korean CRPC patients who were treated with several cycles of docetaxel plus prednisolone from May 2005 to May 2012. Patients were evaluated for neutropenia risk factors and for the incidence of neutropenia. In this study, nine out of forty patients (22.5%) developed neutropenia during the first cycle of docetaxel-based systemic chemotherapy. Four experienced grade 2, three grade 3, and one grade 4 neutropenia. Multivariate analysis showed that pretreatment white blood cell (WBC) count (p=0.042), pretreatment neutrophil count (p=0.015), pretreatment serum creatinine level (p=0.027), and pretreatment serum albumin level (p=0.017) were significant predictive factors for neutropenia. In conclusion, pretreatment WBC counts, neutrophil counts, serum creatinine levels, and serum albumin levels proved to be significant independent risk factors for the development of neutropenia induced by docetaxel-based systemic chemotherapy in patients with CRPC.

  • Objectives: This study was to investigate the effect of high frequency electro-acupuncture (EA) at $ST_{36}$ acupoint on the Freund's Complete Adjuvant (FCA)-induced arthritis in rats. Methods : Arthritis was induced by intradermal injection of FCA into base of tail. Experimental groups were divided into 4 groups; Normal, Control, $ST_{36}$ and Non-Acupoint (NA). $ST_{36}$ group was treated by 120Hz EA at $ST_{36}$ acupoint. Body weight, paw edema volume and ankle joint thickness were measured after treatment. And we investigated the effects of 120Hz EA via WBC count, segmen neurophil, lymphocyte, PGE2 assay and NADPH-d histochemistry. Results and Conclusions : The mean of body weight and ankle joint thickness of $ST_{36}$ group was increased compared with control group. The mean of paw edema volume, WBC count, segment neutrophil and lymphocyte of were not decreased with control group.   • Shibyukmiyouki-Eum was a drug that treated carbuncle and cellulitis. So, the purpose of this study was to investigate effect of Shibyukmiyouki-Eum on the anticancer and inhibitive effects of the secondary effects by anticarcinogen We used Shibyukmiyouki-Eum extract(SYE) with freeze-dried, 8wks-old male mice(balb/c, ICR) and cancer cell lines(L1210. S-180) for this Study, The proliferation of cells was tested using a colorimetric tetrazoliun assay(MTT assay). and measurement of WBC, RBC, hemoglobin and platelet was tested by a automated hematology analyzer. The results of this study were obtained as follow; SYE was showed significantly cytotoxicity on the L1210 and S-180 cell lines. increased proliferation of thymocytes decreased by anticarcinogen. In combined effects of SYE and vincristine(0.005㎎/kg), SYE was significantly inhibited proliferation of L1210 cells and significantly increased proliferation of thymocytes. Also SYE was significantly increased count of WBC. platelet and increased count of RBC, hemoglobin. These results suggest that SYE has not only anticancar action but inhibitive effects of on the secondary effects by anticarcinogen.

Studies on the Blood Pictures within 24hrs after Birth in Korean Native Calves (생후 24시간 이내의 한우 혈액상에 관한 연구)

  • This studies were carried out to investigate the changes of blood pictures within 24hrs after birth in Korean native calves. The hematologic values were examined from 300 heads healthy Korean native calves in the area of western farm of Chungnam province. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. $Mean{\pm}SD$ values of serum total protein contents within 24 hrs after birth in Korean native calves were $8.42{\pm}0.92g$ / dl and 48.14{\pm}0.93g$ / dl, respectively. 2. $Meant{\pm}SD$ values of RBC count, WBC count, PCV and Hb contents within 24 hrs after birth in Koren native natives were 49.97{\pm}2.56{\times}10^3$ / mm^3$ and $9.88{\pm}2.93{\times}10^3/ mm^3, $ 439.56{\pm}15.42%$ and 441.66{\pm}7.09 %, $$ 12.79{\pm}1.59g$ / dl and 13.$63{\pm}1.87g$ / dl, respectively. 3. 4Meant{\pm}SD$ values of MCV, MCH and MCHC within 24 hrs after birth in Koren native calves were $43.41{\pm}3.09{\mu}mm^3$ and $43.88{\pm}3.31{\mu}mm^3, $ $14.05{\pm}1.22pg $and 414.36{\pm}1.6pg, $ $32.46{\pm}2.47g$ / dl and 432.96{\pm}3.17g$ / dl, respectively.

  • In order to research the effect of Sipjundaebotang on the immune respons of CD4+ T cell and CD8+ T cell in rats, author have performed this experimental study. Experimental groups are divided into 5 groups(intact, control, sample I, sample II, sample III). Normal group was intact, control group was administrated normal saline 2cc for 5 days, sample I was administrated low concentration of Sipjundaebotang(100/3100pack/ml) 2cc for 5 days, sample II was administrated middle concentration of Sipjundaebotang(500/3100pack/ml) 2cc for 5 days, sample III was administrated high concentration of Sipjundaebotang(2500/3100pack/ml) 2cc for 5 days. WBC, Lymphocyte, CD4+ T cell in the blood, spleen, axillary node and CD8+ T cell in the blood, spleen and axillary node were determined. The results was as follows: 1. WBC count in blood was significantly decrcased in the control, sample I, II, III groups as compared with the normal group. 2. Lymhocyte count in the blood was significantly decreased in the control, sample I, II groups as compared with the normal group. 3. CD4+ T cell count in the blood was significantly increased dose-dependently in the sample I, II, III groups as compared with the normal group. 4. CD4+ T cell count in the spleen was significantly increased in the sample I, II, III groups as compared with the normal group. 5. CD4+ T cell count in the axillary node was significantly increased in the sample III group as compared with the normal group, however significantly decreased in the sample I, II groups as compared with the normal group. 6. CD8+ T cell count in the blood was significantly increased in the sample III groups as compared with the normal group. 7. CD8+ T cell count in the spleen was significantly increased in the sample I, II, III groups as compared with the normal group. but there was no differences in the sample groups. 8. CD8+ T cell count in the axillary node was decreased in the sample I, II groups as compared with the normal group.

The Inhibitory Effects of Liriopis Tuber on the Bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis in C57BL/6J mice (맥문동(麥門冬)이 C57BL/6J 생쥐의 Bleomycin 폐섬유화(肺纖維化)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Objectives : The aim was to identify the inhibitory effects of Liriopis Tuber on bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis by analysing the changes of imflammatory cell cytokines and SHI(Semiquantitative Histological Index), Materials and Methods : In this study fibrosis prone C57BL/6J mice were used. Control group was treated with blomycin(0.06mg/0.1 ml) by IT(intratracheal) instillation which is a popular method of inducing lung fibrosis and sample group took Liriopis Tuber water extract(38.0mg/10g body weight) orally for 14 days after IT instillation of blomycin. We measured the total and differential count of WBC, $IFN-{\gamma}$ & IL-4 in mice BALF and SHI(Semiquantitative Histological Index) from lung tissues of mice. BALF and lung tissues of mice were taken 14 days after IT instillation of blomycin. Results : In sample group total WBC count, proportion of neutrophil, SHI and IL-4 significantly(p<0.05) decreased, proportion of macrophage significantly(p<0.05) increased and proportion of lymphocyte, $IFN-{\gamma}$ did not decrease significantly. Conclusions : This study suggests that Liriopis Tuber has an inhibitory effects of pulmonary fibrosis by attenuation of inflammation and Th2 immune response. To determine whether this herbal medicine contribute to cure and prophylaxis of pulmonary fibrosis, further studies on the role of $IFN-{\gamma}$ relating to fibrosis are required.

Effect of Oriental Postpartum Management on the Hematology and Blood Chemistry in Puerperium Maternity (한방산후조리가 산욕기 산모의 혈액 및 생화학검사에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : As participation of women in public affairs increases, they are more concerned about postpartum management. However, objectivity of its effect tends to be insufficient. This study was done to investigate the clinical applications of postpartum management in Oriental Medicine. Subjects and methods : This clinical study was done on 74 patients who were treated by postpartum management in the Oriental Medical Hospital of Woosuk University from November 1999 to August 2000. We analyzed the changes of hematology and blood chemistry. Then, we examined the differences between two groups : one group had undergone vaginal duct delivery and the other cesarean section in mode of delivery. Results : I) The ratio of vaginal duct delivery to cesarean section was 39:35. Two major age groups were 25-29 and 30-34, respectively 43% and 35%. 2) According to the hematology, hemoglobin, hematocrit, REC and platelet count significantly increased, while WBC and ESR level significantly decreased. 3) To the hematology by mode of delivery, WBC level decreased in both groups. WBC level of the vaginal duct delivery group was significantly lower than that of cesarean section. RBC level increased in both groups, the cesarean section group were statistically significant. Hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelet count increased but they were not significant in either group. 4) To the blood chemistry, Triglyceride (TG), protein, albumin and sodium levels were significantly increased but cholesterol, ALT, BUN, creatinine, potassium and chloride levels were not statistically significant. 5) According to the blood chemistry by mode of delivery, TG level of the vaginal duct delivery group was significantly reduced but the others were not significant. Conclusious : The effective results were shown that postpartum management by Oriental Medicine assisted postpartum health care as well as postpartum anemia.

The Hematologic Study on Cerebral Infarction (뇌경색환자의 혈액학적 소견 연구)

  • 1. Purpose Stroke is the most frequent cause of mortality and morbidity rate in Korea with coronary heart disease and cancer. The ischemic type of stroke is increasing tendency. The purpose of this studies is to examine the hematologic difference between cb infarction patients and Korean normal adults. 2. Method The study group consisted of neurologically confirmd 50 cb-infarction patients as the case group and 278 patients as control group that they had no significant result by CT through early examination of stroke in Cheonan oriental hospital of Daejeon university. We tested and compared RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, WBC, PT, PTT, total protein, albumin, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, GOT GPT, $\gamma$-GTP, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, glucose, BUN, creatinine, Na, K in the both group. 3. Result In the sample group(cb infarction group), there were many patients with low RBC count but no significant and with low hemoglobin, hematocrit(p<0.05). Thereas, increased WBC count and delayed PTT were showed respectively 20%, 36% in patient group, 7.9%, 4.7% in normal group(p<0.05). Comparing the LFT between cb infarction patients and normal adults, we founded significant cases with low HDL-C level, high glucose level, low potassium level in patient group(p<0.05). But the percentage of high total cholesterol level and triglyceride level were 18%, 29%(norma1 group), 20%, 28%(cb infarction group) respectively, there were no significant difference. 4. Conclusion In this study, we demonstrated that low HDL-C level and high glucose level is one of important risk factor of cb infarction. Also prospective studies are needed to evaluate many risk factor(hemoglobin, hematocrit, WBC, cholesterol, triglyceride, K, etc) of cb infarction.
