Enhancement of insecticidal efficacy of acetamiprid soluble concentrates using different adjuvants (서로 다른 보조제에 의한 acetamiprid 액제의 살충활성 증진효과)

  • The studies were undertaken to establish optimum formulation recipes of acetamipid 4% SL(soluble concentrate) using different adjuvants and to evaluate enhanced control effect on target insect pests by adjuvants. Adjuvants for the studies used were SS(Sodium alkylcarboxylate) and PE(Polyoxyethylene alkyl ether). After the fundamental recipe for SL being established by using co-solvent for stability at low temperature, four types of SL were formulated. The physical properties and insecticidal efficacies of the tested SL formulations were investigated. Surface tension of SL1 without adjuvant was highly decreased from 44 dyne/cm to 34 dyne/cm by addition of adjuvants. SL4 using mixed adjuvant showed the lowest contact angle. Efficacies of SL1 without adjuvant against the palm thrips (Thrips palmi) and the cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii) on cucumber were increased by adding adjuvants. SL4 using mixed adjuvant showed higher efficacy than SL2 and SL3 using single adjuvant. These results have demonstrated that the selected adjuvants could be used to enhance insecticide efficacy and reduce spray dose of insecticide.

The Colonizing Routes of Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphididae) to Mandarine Citrus Trees Grown in a Non-heating Plastic-film House During the Early Season (무가온 시설재배 감귤에서 계절초기 목화진딧물 개체군의 정착경로에 관한 연구)

  • The cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) infests citrus orchards, causing sooty mold damage to the fruits. This study was conducted to investigate the colonizing route of A. gossypii in citrus orchards in a non-heating plastic-film house during the early season. The overwintering eggs of the aphids are frequently found on summer shoots of the citrus trees. The eggs were mostly those of Aphis citricola, without any A. gossypii when hatched. The colonization of citrus trees by alate A. gossypii in non-heating plastic-film houses was mainly observed twice, with advanced flight in late April and delayed flight in late May. The delayed flight was synchronized with the timing of the emergence of alate A. gossypii from the fundatrix generation in the holocyclic life cycle. During advanced flight in closed citrus orchards, alate A. gossypii were caught in yellow water traps installed in the fields, and the populations were found to originate from the surviving populations of the anholocyclic life cycle. Consequently, we concluded that citrus tree colonization with A. gossypii occurred during the advanced flight of the anholocyclic and the delayed flight of the holocyclic life cycle.

Combined Effect of Afidopyropen, Chlorfenapyr and Cyantraniliprole to Insecticide-resistant Cotton Aphid, Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphididae) (살충제 저항성 목화진딧물에 대한 afidopyropen과 chlorfenapyr, cyantraniliprole의 혼합효과 평가)

  • The susceptibility of Aphis gossypii populations collected from three fields (WJ, CC, and GS) was evaluated to three insecticides (afidopyropen, chlorfenapyr and cyantraniliprole) and three binary mixtures. Three field populations showed resistance ratios of over 100 to all insecticides. The Combination Index (CI), %M(synergism), Co-Toxicity Coefficient (CTC), Wadley Ratio (WR), Synergism Ratio (SR) and Abbott Ratio (AR) were used to evaluate combined effect of the insecticides. Afidopyropen + chlorfenapyr (CI ≤ 0.16; %M(synergism) ≥ 94; CTC ≥ 764.5; WR ≥ 6.4; SR ≥ 6.9 and AR ≥ 1.1) showed a synergism in all filed populations. WJ and CC populations showed a synergism in all binary mixtures of insecticides, but GS population showed an antagonism for chlorfenapyr + cyantraniliprole (CI, 1.63; %M(synergism), 30; CTC, 64.0; WR, 0.6 and AR, 0.54) and afidopyropen + cyantraniliprole (CI, 6.7; %M(synergism), 1; CTC, 19.8; WR, 0.2 and AR ≤ 0.55). All mixtures (afidopyropen + chlorfenapyr, chlorfenapyr + cyantraniliprole and afidopyropen + cyantraniliprole) showed a control value of over 99% after 21 days of treatment in the field. This study highlights that binary mixtures of three insecticides serve as an effective control strategy for A. gossypii.

The Behaviour of Residues of Flonicamid and Metabolites in Sweet peppers (착색단고추 중 플로니카미드 및 그 대사산물의 잔류특성)

  • Flonicamid was a water-soluble and systemic insecticide. It was applied to control neonicotinod pesticide-resistant cotton aphid in sweet peppers. However, the residue levels of total flonicamid in sweet pepper exported to Japan in 2009 were exceeded the maximum residue limit (MRL). This study was conducted to elucidate residual properties of flonicamid parent compound and its metabolites in sweet peppers. It was carried out to compare the variation of residues in sweet pepper in three different greenhouses for 21 days after 3 times application with 7 days interval. The mean residues were 0.176, 0.152 and 0.108 mg $kg^{-1}$ and the residue levels in sweet pepper among three greenhouses show significant difference. The maximum residue levels were detected 10 days later after last treatments. The overall residue levels were lower than MRL 2.0 mg $kg^{-1}$ (by Korea) and 0.4 mg $kg^{-1}$ (by Japan in 2009 but now revised MRL is 2.0 mg $kg^{-1}$). But the residue level of total flonicamid at the 21th day after 3 times treatment with 7 days interval was 0.429 mg $kg^{-1}$ restricted by the application of double rate than recommended rate. The amounts of metabolites, TFNA, 4-Trifluoro methyl nicotinic acid and TFNG, N-(4-trifluoro methyl nicotinoyl) glycine were increased while flonicamid parent compound was decreased over time. Therefore the longer trial period should be needed for flonicamid in sweet peppers.

Effects of Environment Friendly Agricultural Materials to Insect Natural Enemies at Small Green Houses (소형포장에서 친환경농자재가 천적곤충에 미치는 영향)

  • Many kinds of environment friendly agricultural materials (EFAMs) were used for the plant protection, furthermore they support the growth of crops in the greenhouses and the kindly environment friendly farming. Natural enemies might be used for control of insect pest with EFAMs at the same space and time. For testing the toxicity of EFAMs against to natural enemies, 10 EFAMs were selected and tested in small greenhouses and farm's fields. In case of Harmonia axyridis larva, there was no predacious activity against cotton aphids in the block with EFAMMo L, EFAMPE D, EFAMME G and EFAMAE A, otherwise, aphid population was rapidly decreased in the control block without EFAMs. Both of Trialeurodes vaporariorum and Encarsia formosa population were slightly decreased in the block with EFAMs. There were significantly decreased in the block with IEFAM C, FEFAM D, EFAMSM Band EFAMPE D compared with control area. Especially, there was significantly maintained a very low population, both T. vaporariorum and E. formosa in the block with EFAMMo C. The parasitized ratio of Aphidius colemani is also very low in the block with EFAMs compared with control area. In the block with IEFAM C, FEFAM D, EFAMPE D and EFAMMo L, there were significantly different with control area in the number of mummies. Otherwise, in case of Diglyphus isaea and Liriomyza trifolii, there was no significantly different between blocks with and without EFAMs. In the block with EFAMMo C, Tetranychus urticae and Phytoseiulus persimilis populations were significantly maintained a very low level. However, the population of T. urticae was increased, but P. persimilis was decreased in the block with EFAMMo L.
