GENERAL FAMILIES OF CHAIN RATIO TYPE ESTIMATORS OF THE POPULATION MEAN WITH KNOWN COEFFICIENT OF VARIATION OF THE SECOND AUXILIARY VARIABLE IN TWO PHASE SAMPLING

  • In this paper we have suggested a family of chain estimators of the population mean $\bar{Y}$ of a study variate y using two auxiliary variates in two phase (double) sampling assuming that the coefficient of variation of the second auxiliary variable is known. It is well known that chain estimators are traditionally formulated when the population mean $\bar{X}_1$ of one of the two auxiliary variables, say $x_1$, is not known but the population mean $\bar{X}_2$ of the other auxiliary variate $x_2$ is available and $x_1$ has higher degree of positive correlation with the study variate y than $x_2$ has with y, $x_2$ being closely related to $x_1$. Here the classes are constructed when the population mean $\bar{X}_1\;of\;X_1$ is not known and the coefficient of variation $C_{x2}\;of\;X_2$ is known instead of population mean $\bar{X}_2$. Asymptotic expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of the suggested family have been obtained. An asymptotic optimum estimator (AOE) is also identified with its MSE formula. The optimum sample sizes of the preliminary and final samples have been derived under a linear cost function. An empirical study has been carried out to show the superiority of the constructed estimator over others.

A study on non-response bias adjusted estimation in business survey (사업체조사에서의 무응답 편향보정 추정에 관한 연구)

  • Sampling design should provide statistics to meet a given accuracy while saving cost and time. However, a large number of non-responses are occurring due to the deterioration of survey circumstances, which significantly reduces the accuracy of the survey results. Non-responses occur for a variety of reasons. Chung and Shin (2017, 2019) and Min and Shin (2018) found that the accuracy of estimation is improved by removing the bias caused by non-response when the response rate is an exponential or linear function of variable of interests. For that case they assumed that the error of the super population model follows normal distribution. In this study, we proposed a non-response bias adjusted estimator in the case where the error of a super population model follows the gamma distribution or the log-normal distribution in a business survey. We confirmed the superiority of the proposed estimator through simulation studies.

MRAS Based Sensorless Control of a Series-Connected Five-Phase Two-Motor Drive System

  • Multi-phase machines can be used in variable speed drives. Their applications include electric ship propulsion, 'more-electric aircraft' and traction applications, electric vehicles, and hybrid electric vehicles. Multi-phase machines enable independent control of a few numbers of machines that are connected in series in a particular manner with their supply being fed from a single voltage source inverter(VSI). The idea was first implemented for a five-phase series-connected two-motor drive system, but is now applicable to any number of phases more than or equal to five-phase. The number of series-connected machines is a function of the phase number of VSI. Theoretical and simulation studies have already been reported for number of multi-phase multi-motor drive configurations of series-connection type. Variable speed induction motor drives without mechanical speed sensors at the motor shaft have the attractions of low cost and high reliability. To replace the sensor, information concerning the rotor speed is extracted from measured stator currents and voltages at motor terminals. Open-loop estimators or closed-loop observers are used for this purpose. They differ with respect to accuracy, robustness, and sensitivity against model parameter variations. This paper analyses operation of an MRAS estimator based sensorless control of a vector controlled series-connected two-motor five-phase drive system with current control in the stationary reference frame. Results, obtained with fixed-voltage, fixed-frequency supply, and hysteresis current control are presented for various operating conditions on the basis of simulation results. The purpose of this paper is to report the first ever simulation results on a sensorless control of a five-phase two-motor series-connected drive system. The operating principle is given followed by a description of the sensorless technique.

A Study of Sample Size for Two-Stage Cluster Sampling (이단계 집락추출에서의 표본크기에 대한 연구)

  • In a large scale survey, cluster sampling design in which a set of observation units called clusters are selected is often used to satisfy practical restrictions on time and cost. Especially, a two stage cluster sampling design is preferred when a strong intra-class correlation exists among observation units. The sample Primary Sampling Unit(PSU) and Secondary Sampling Unit(SSU) size for a two stage cluster sample is determined by the survey cost and precision of the estimator calculated. For this study, we derive the optimal sample PSU and SSU size when the population SSU size across the PSU are di erent by extending the result obtained under the assumption that all PSU have the same number of SSU. The results on the sample size are then applied to the $4^{th}$ Korea Hospital Discharge results and is compared to the conventional method. We also propose the optimal sample SSU (discharged patients) size for the $7^{th}$ Korea Hospital Discharge Survey.

Rolling Census as an Alternative to the Population and Housing Census (인구주택총조사 대안 방법으로의 순환총조사)

  • Even the importance and necessity of a basic national statistical survey, the population and housing census is facing with some practical difficulties such as higher survey cost, decrease of survey information and much longer survey period. As an alternative to the traditional census for tackling such difficulties, a rolling census has been introduced. The rolling census has some advantages such as improved timeliness with much more frequent data and evenly distributed survey cost over several years. On the contrary, the rolling census has also some disadvantages such as the lost of snapshot feature of the population and increasing risk of outside influence on field work. In this paper we reviewed the French rolling census and the American community survey as roiling surveys, and then investigated some factors like balanced sample selection, population update, synthetic estimation, and the operation of rolling survey, which are to be checked carefully in case of introducing a rolling census as an alternative to the current census.

Robust Nonlinear Control of a 6 DOF Parallel Manipulator : Task Space Approach

  • This paper presents a robust nonlinear controller for a f degree of freedom (DOF) parallel manipulator in the task space coordinates. The proposed control strategy requires information on orientations and translations in the task space unlike the joint space or link space control scheme. Although a 6 DOF sensor may provide such information in a straightforward manner, its cost calls for a more economical alternative. A novel indirect method based on the readily available length information engages as a potential candidate to replace a 6 DOF sensor. The indirect approach generates the necessary information by solving the forward kinematics and subsequently applying alpha-beta-gamma tracker With the 6 DOF signals available, a robust nonlinear task space control (RNTC) scheme is proposed based on the Lyapunov redesign method, whose stability is rigorously proved. The performance of the proposed RNTC with the new estimation scheme is evaluated via experiments. First, the results of the estimator are compared with the rate-gyro signals, which indicates excellent agreement. Then, the RNTC with on-line estimated 6 DOF data is shown to achieve excellent control performance to sinusoidal inputs, which is superior to those of a commonly used proportional-plus-integral-plus-derivative controller with a feedforward friction compensation under joint space coordinates and the nonlinear controller under task space coordinates.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy-based random access controller with a superimposed frame structure (F$^2$RAC) fur voice/data-integrated wireless networks. F$^2$RAC adopts mini-slot technique for reducing contention cost, and these mini-slots of which number may dynamically vary from one frame to the next as a function of the traffic load are further partitioned into two regions for access requests coming from voice and data traffic with their respective QoS requirements. And F$^2$RAC is designed to properly determine the access regions and permission probabilities for enhancing the data packet delay while ensuring the voice packet dropping probability constraint. It mainly consists of the estimator with Pseudo-Bayesian algorithm and fuzzy logic controller with Sugeno-type of fuzzy rules. Simulation results prove that F$^2$RAC can guarantee QoS requirement of voice and provide the highest throughput efficiency and the smallest data packet delay amongst the different alternatives including PRMA[1], IPRMA[2], and SIR[3].

A Novel Multi-view Face Detection Method Based on Improved Real Adaboost Algorithm

  • Multi-view face detection has become an active area for research in the last few years. In this paper, a novel multi-view human face detection algorithm based on improved real Adaboost is presented. Real Adaboost algorithm is improved by weighted combination of weak classifiers and the approximately best combination coefficients are obtained. After that, we proved that the function of sample weight adjusting method and weak classifier training method is to guarantee the independence of weak classifiers. A coarse-to-fine hierarchical face detector combining the high efficiency of Haar feature with pose estimation phase based on our real Adaboost algorithm is proposed. This algorithm reduces training time cost greatly compared with classical real Adaboost algorithm. In addition, it speeds up strong classifier converging and reduces the number of weak classifiers. For frontal face detection, the experiments on MIT+CMU frontal face test set result a 96.4% correct rate with 528 false alarms; for multi-view face in real time test set result a 94.7 % correct rate. The experimental results verified the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Performance Improvement of a PMSM Sensorless Control Algorithm Using a Stator Resistance Error Compensator in the Low Speed Region

  • Sensorless control methods are generally used in motor control for home-appliances because of the material cost and manufactureing standard restrictions. The current model-based control algorithm is mainly used for PMSM sensorless control in the home-appliance industry. In this control method, the rotor position is estimated by using the d-axis and q-axis current errors between the real system and a motor model of the position estimator. As a result, the accuracy of the motor model parameters are critical in this control method. A mismatch of the PMSM parameters affects the speed and torque in low speed, steadystate responses. Rotor position errors are mainly caused by a mismatch of the stator resistance. In this paper, a stator resistance compensation algorithm is proposed to improve sensorless control performance. This algorithm is easy to implement and does not require a modification of the motor model or any special interruptions of the controller. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through experimental results.

A Study on the Prediction of Bead Geometry for Lab Joint Fillet Welds Using Sensitivity Analysis (민감도 분석을 이용한 겹치기 필릿용접부 비드형상 예측에 관한 연구)

  • Arc welding process is one of the most important technologies to join metal plates. Robotic welding offers the reduced manufacturing cost sought, but its widespread use demands a means of sensing and correcting for inaccuracies in the part, the fixturing and the robot. A number of problems that need to be addressed in robotic arc welding processes include sensing, joint tracking, and lack of adequate models for process parameter prediction and quality control. Problems with parameter settings and quality control occur frequently in the GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding process due to the large number of interactive process parameters that must be set and accurately controlled. The objectives of this paper are to realize the mapping characteristics of bead width using a sensitivity analysis and develop the neural network and multiple regression method, and finally select the most accurate model in order to control the weld quality(bead width) for fillet welding. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network estimator can predict bead width with reasonable accuracy, and guarantee the uniform weld quality.
