The evaluation of the compression behavior of the cushioning material is of importance to achieve appropriate packaging design. In order to change packaging design from polymeric-based to more eco-friendly cellulose-based nire effectively, comparative study on the compression behavior between these two packaging materials is crucial. In this study, the stress-strain behavior, hysteresis loss, and response characteristics for cyclic loading were analyzed through compression tests on multi-layered corrugated structure (MLCS) and expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging materials. MLCS produced in Korea is produced by winding a certain number of single-faced corrugated paperboard, and the compression behavior of this material was turned out to be 6 stages: elastic stage, first buckling stage, sub-buckling stage, densification stage, last buckling stage and high densification stage. On the other hand, EPS's compression behavior was in 3 stages: linear elastic stage, collapse plateau, and densification stage. The strain energy per unit volume (strain energy density) of MLCS did not differ depending on the material thickness, but it showed a clear difference depending on the raw material and flute type. Hysteresis loss of MLCS ranged from 0.90 to 0.93, and there were no significant differences in the raw material and flute type. These values were about 5 to 20% greater than the hysteresis of the EPS (about 0.78 to 0.87).
Reinforced concrete buildings with shearwalls are very efficient to resist earthquake disturbances. In general, reinforced concrete frames are governed by flexure and shearwalls are governed by shear. If a structure included both frames and shearwalls, it is generally governed by shearwalls. However, the ductility of ordinary reinforced concrete is very limited. To improve the ductility, a series of tests on framed shearwalls made of corrugated steel was performed previously and the experimental results were compared with ordinary reinforced concrete frames and shearwalls. It was found that ductility of framed shearwalls could be greatly improved if the thickness of the corrugated steel wall is appropriate to the surrounding reinforced concrete frame. In this paper, an analytical model is developed to predict the horizontal load-displacement relationship of hybrid reinforced concrete frame-steel wall systems according to the analogy of truss models. This analytical model is based on equilibrium and compatibility conditions as well as constitutive laws of corrugated steel. The analytical predictions are compared with the results of tests reported in the previous paper. It is found that proposed analytical model can predict the test results with acceptable accuracy.

Sound transmission loss (TL) is experimently investigated on the multi-layered panel used for the floor of a tilting train. Measurement of the intensity transmission loss is performed according to ASTM E 2249-02. The floor structure consists of corrugated steel panel, glass wool, plywood and cover. On the corrugated steel panel, TL drop by local resonance is considered and the TL improvement effect by damping treatment is estimated. Total sound transmission loss of the entire floor structure is obtained and the contribution of each layer is examined.

Due to rapid urbanization and industrialization, water supply and sewer line systems are also developed relevantly. Manhole is an essential component structure of the pipeline system. Manhole is a structure constructed to accommodate the direction, dimension, differences in level, and easy of maintenance in the pipeline system. In this paper we present the result of investigations pertaining to the structural behavior of PVC sewer manhole buried underground. In the paper mechanical properties of PVC material are reported. In addition, by the finite element analysis (FEA), we confirmed that a PVC double-wall corrugated pipe manhole, when it is buried underground, is safe for the stress as well as buckling strength if the manhole is constructed within the suggested limit of buried depth.

The usage of corrugated cardboard for packing material is increasing in these days because it is light and easy to manufacture packing boxes. However, the structure analysis of packing boxes, made of cardboard, is not well carried. The reason can be deduced that its mechanical properties for structure analysis are not well known. The cardboards are made different shapes with various types of raw materials that are paper-based compound. In addition, the cardboards are considered to be orthotropic material. This research finds mechanical properties of triple layered cardboard which is composed of outer liner and inner liner. The moduli of elasticity and of shear for liners are found from tension test and T-Peel test. The mechanical properties of the cardboard are calculated using the super position method and equivalent evaluation method.

Most tunnel lining material which has been used in the domestic is a concrete. But many problems as the construction period, the cost, and the crack occurrence for the design, construction, and management were happened in the concrete lining. For this reason, many research institutes like the Korea Highway Corporation recognize the necessity of an alternate material development and grow on the interest for that. So in this study, the seismic behaviour characteristics for the application of the Corrugated Steel Plate Lining in cut-and-cover tunnel are evaluated as several conditions for the backfill height, the cutting slope, and the relative density of backfill soil are changed. The compressive stress which is calculated in the Corrugated Steel Plate Lining by the seismic load is decreased as the backfill height increases and the cut slope grows gentle. Also, the moment shows the tendency of decrease according to the increase of the backfill height. But in the case of the relative density of the backfill soil is small, the moment increases according to the increase of the backfill height and affects the dynamic behaviour characteristic. So it is considered that the relative density of the backfill soil is also the important point. As the result in analyzing the seismic response characteristics of the reinforcement spacing of the Corrugated Steel Plate, the variation in the compressive force is hardly happened, but the moment and the shear force increase on the reinforcement spacing being narrow.

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of electromagnetic pulse shielding in cast-in-place protective shelters using corrugated metal-plates, and then reviews their usability for the Republic of Korea Army. The Korea Corps of Engineering has evaluated corrugated metal-plates as a construction material for cast-in-place structures, which have to defend against mechanical impacts as well as electromagnetic pulses. Corrugated metal-plate is known as a superb mechanical protective material, so much so that it has been employed in ammunition magazines and artillery platforms in the armed forces. Moreover, as a metal, such as steel and copper, it is universally recognized as one of the most effective electromagnetic pulse shielding materials. In addition to effectively shielding from electromagnetic pulses and protecting against mechanical impacts, corrugated metal-plates should prove to be an appropriate construction material for the cast-in-place protective shelter in terms of construction availability and economic feasibility. The shielding effectiveness of the suggested structures is examined based on MIL-STD 188-125-1. A few frequency bands need an increase of 15~30dB in shielding effectiveness because of unbidden apertures caused by flaws associated with welding, assembling, and material deformation. However, allowing for the approximately 40dB of shielding provided by soil; the examined structure, which is buried underground, can offset its shortcomings sufficiently.

Composite box-girder with corrugated steel webs has been widely used in civil engineering practice as an alternative of conventional pre-stressed concrete box-girder because the efficiency of pre-stressing can be increased and weight reduction of superstructure can be achieved by replacing concrete webs as a corrugated steel webs. However, most of previous researches were limited in shear and flexural behavior of such girder so that the torsional behaviors of composite box-girder with corrugated steel webs are not fully understood yet and it needs to be investigated. Some of previous researchers developed the nonlinear theory for torsional analysis of composite box-girder with corrugated steel webs. However, their theories were developed by ignoring the tensile behavior of concrete. Thus, there are certain limitations in analysis of serviceability such as cracking moment and torsional stiffness of the girder. This paper presents the analytical model for torsional behavior of composite box-girder with corrugated steel webs considering tensile behavior of concrete. Based on the proposed analytical model, nonlinear torsional analysis program of composite box-girder with corrugated steel webs was developed. Then, for verification of validation of the developed model, test for the girder was conducted and the results were compared with those of analytical model. Finally, parametric study was conducted and the effects of tensile behavior of concrete on the torsional behavior of the girder were discussed.

The packaging with environment-friendly materials become more important issue since the concern for the environment and the disposal of waste such as the packaging materials has increased. Although the paper based packaging such as corrugated box are widely used as a typical environment-friendly packaging stuff, the heat insulation properties of paper packaging did not get many attention. In this study, the heat insulation properties of paper were deeply evaluated to improve the functional properties as packaging material of the cold storage goods. The simple device for evaluating the heat insulation of paper product was developed. Subsequently, the changes in the heat insulation depending on the paper structure and the addition of the inorganic fillers were investigated by using the instrument. The higher basis weight and the less beating time resulted in the bulkier structure and the less efficiency of heat transfer. The addition of the perlite powder as a filler resulted in the great increase in the heat insulation, although the addition of the calcium carbonate decreased the heat insulation potential of paper.
In dehumidification evaporation cooling system. the regeneratie evaporative cooler(REC) makes an important role to reduce the sensible cooling load in the system through evaporative cooling, By this reason, many studies about increasing the cooling capacity of the REC were undertook. In this paper, we analyzed the cooling characteristics of the REC due to the structures of the REC and determined the best structure for the REC's effectiveness and cooling capacity. From the study. we could obtain some important results: at first. corrugated type has the benefit to expand the channel width of the REC, But because the type has some weak points about the size and weight. there is almost no benefit to improve the performance of the REC. Through these reasons. we decided that finned type is the best structure to improve the performance of the REC.
