  • In batch cultures of Brevibacterium ketoglutamicum for the L-ornithine production in which the pH and dissolved oxygen concentration were regulated constant, the profiles of redox potential were observed in parallel with the profiles of state variables such as cell, glucose, and ornithine concentrations. It was found that the redox potential had a close relationship with cell concentration and was also affected by ornithine concentration. The effects of ornithine and glucose on redox potential were examined in a separate series of experiments. Based on the experimental results, a correlation of redox potential to glucose, cell and ornithine concentrations has been proposed. The proposed correlation can be used for on-line estimation of ornithine concentration from on-line data of redox potential, glucose concentration, and cell concentration.

  • Stochastic simulation technique has advantages over deterministic simulation in various engineering analysis, since stochastic simulation can take into consideration of scattering of various design variables, which is inherent characteristics of physical world. In this work, Monte-Carlo simulation mothod in ADAMS/Insight for steady-state cornering and J-turn behavior of a truck with design variables like hard points and busing stiffnesses have performed to achieve better dynamic performance. The main purpose is to improve understeer gradient at steady-state cornering and minimize peak lateral acceleration and peak yaw rate at J-turn. Through correlation analysis, design variables that have high impacts on the cornering behavior were selected, and significant performance improvement has been achieved by appropriately changing the high impact design variables.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between 3D visual fatigue and physiological measures by canonical correlation analysis enabling to categorical correlation. Background: Few studies have been conducted to investigate the physiological mechanism underlying the visual fatigue caused by processing 3D information which may make the cognitive mechanism overloaded. However, even the previous studies lack validation in terms of the correlation between physiological variables and the visual fatigue. Method: 9 Female and 6 male subjects with a mean age of $22.53{\pm}2.55$ voluntarily participated in this experiment. All participants were asked to report how they felt about their health sate at after viewing 3D. In addition, Low & Hybrid measurement test(Event Related Potential, Steady-state Visual Evoked Potential) and for evaluating cognitive fatigue before and after viewing 3D were performed. The physiological signal were measured with subjective fatigue evaluation before and after in watching the 3D content. For this study suggesting categorical correlation, all measures were categorized into three sets such as included Visual Fatigue set(response time, subjective evaluation), Autonomic Nervous System set(PPG frequency, PPG amplitude, HF/LF ratio), Central Nervous System set(ERP amplitude P4, O1, O2, ERP latency P4, O1, O2, SSVEP S/N ratio P4, O1, O2). Then the correlation of three variables sets, canonical correlation analysis was conducted. Results: The results showed a significant correlation between visual fatigue and physiological measures. However, different variables of visual fatigue were highly correlated to respective HF/LF ratio and to ERP latency(O2). Conclusion: Response time was highly correlated to ERP latency(O2) while the subjective evaluation was to HF/LF ratio. Application: This study may provide the most significant variables for the quantitative evaluation of visual fatigue using HF/LF ratio and ERP latency based human performance and subjective fatigue.

  • A many-body master equation is constructed by incorporating stochastic terms responsible for chemical reactions into the many-body Smoluchowski equation. Two forms of Langevin-type of memory equations describing the time evolution of dynamical variables under the influence of time-independent perturbation with an arbitrary intensity are derived. One form is convenient in obtaining the dynamics approaching the steady-state attained by the perturbation and the other in describing the fluctuation dynamics at the steady-state and consequently in obtaining the linear response of the system at the steady-state to time-dependent perturbation. In both cases, the kinetics of statistical averages of variables is found to be obtained by analyzing the dynamics of time-correlation functions of the variables.

  • For the efficient use and management of water resources, a reliable rainfall-runoff analysis is necessary. Still, continuous hydrological data and rainfall-runoff data are insufficient to secure through measurements and models. In particular, as part of the reasonable improvement of a rainfall-runoff model in the case of an ungauged watershed, regionalization is being used to transfer the parameters necessary for the model application to the ungauged watershed. In this study, the GR4J model was selected, and the SCEM-UA method was used to optimize parameters. The rainfall-runoff model for the analysis of the correlation between watershed characteristics and parameters obtained through the model was regionalized by the Copula function, and rainfall-runoff analysis with the regionalized parameters was performed on the ungauged watershed. In the process, the intermediate state variables of the rainfall-runoff model were extracted, and the correlation analysis between water level and the ground water level was investigated. Furthermore, in the process of rainfall-runoff analysis, the Standardized State variable Drought Index (SSDI) was calculated by calculating and indexing the state variables of the GR4J model. and the calculated SSDI was compared with the standardized Precipitation index (SPI), and the hydrological suitability evaluation of the drought index was performed to confirm the possibility of drought monitoring and application in the ungauged watershed.

  • This paper discusses the state-of-the-art techniques in real-time state estimation for the Smart Microgrids. The most popular method used in traditional power system state estimation is a Weighted Least Square(WLS) algorithm which is based on Maximum Likelihood(ML) estimation under the assumption of static system state being a set of deterministic variables. In this paper, we present a survey of dynamic state estimation techniques for Smart Microgrids based on Belief Propagation (BP) when the system state is a set of stochastic variables. The measurements are often too sparse to fulfill the system observability in the distribution network of microgrids. The BP algorithm calculates posterior distributions of the state variables for real-time sparse measurements. Smart Microgrids are modeled as a factor graph suitable for characterizing the linear correlations among the state variables. The state estimator performs the BP algorithm on the factor graph based the stochastic model. The factor graph model can integrate new models for solar and wind correlation. It provides the Smart Microgrids with a way of integrating the distributed renewable energy generation. Our study on Smart Microgrid state estimation can be extended to the estimation of unbalanced three phase distribution systems as well as the optimal placement of smart meters.
