  • The paper describes how a Maximum Length Sequence(MLS) and correlation technique in the form of Hadamard transformation may be applied for the measurement of airborne sound reduction. It is shown that in most cases, the values obtained by the MLS technique will be equal to the expected values obtained by the classical method. However, due to the correlation process involved, the MLS method will be much less sensitive to disturbances from extraneous noise. The described method has been implemented in an RTA acoustic analyser.

The Characteristics and Correlation Coefficients of Characters in Panax ginseng, Violet-stem Variant and Yellow. berry Variant, and Panax quinquefolium. (고려인삼과 미국삼의 형질특성 및 형질간 상관관계)

  • This study was carried out to obtain the basic information for the development of new ginseng varieties. The two variants (violet-stem variant and yellow-berry variant) of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium L.) of one to four-year were used for this study. All of the characteristics, such as leaf length, leaf width, petiol length, number of leaves per plant, number of leaflets per plants, stem diameter, stem length, number of stems per plant, root length, primary root length, root diameter, root weight were determined and correlations among them were estimated. The results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. Leaf length, petiol length, number of leaves per plant, and number of leaflets per plant of Panax ginseng, violet-stem variant and yellow-berry variant, were larger than those of Panax quinquefolium at all of the plant ages, while leaf width was wider in Panax quinquefolium. 2. The length of stem of Panax quinquefolium was shorter than that of Panax ginseng, and the frequency of multi-stem plants at 4-year-old ginseng was larger in violet-stem variant than in Panax quinquefolium and yellow-berry variant. 3. In the characteristics of ginseng root, the primary root length of Panax ginseng, violet-stem variant and yellow-berry variant, were less than that of Panax quinquefolium, while root weight, root diameter, and umber of secondary root related to yield were larger in Panax ginseng. 4. The root weight per plant related to the yield had positive and highly significant correlations with stem diameter, leaf length, leaf length, leaf width, number of compound leaves and leaflets in Panax ginseng and Panax quinguefolium. 5. The root weight related to the wield of ginseng had been influenced to stem diameter, leaf length, and leaf width directly, and number of compound leaves and leaflets indirectly. 6. The number, total area and activity of stomate per mm2 of Panax quinquefolium were more, larger and stronger than those of Panax ginseng.

Variation of Anther and Pistil Length in Rice (수도의 약장, 자약장의 변이)

  • The variations of the anther and pistil length of some rice cultivars at the different planting density and fertility levels were tested and their inheritance mode was studied. The anther length of a spikelet on a secondary panicle branch was longer than the one of a spikelet on a primary panicle branch. In the cultivar Z97B, both the anther and the pistil length were increased slightly along the increased plant-ing spacings, But, in the cultivar IR43 no general tendency was observed. The fertilizer levels applied n the field did not affect both the anther and pistil length of a given cultivar. In a cross of IR56/IR8, the anther length showed continuous variation with longer anther being recessive in the F2 population. While, the pistil length showed a continuous variation with longer pistil being over-dominance. In all of the crosses which IR56 involved, the general and specific combining abilities were high for both the anther and pistil length. The broad sense heritability for anther length was 0.46, and for pistil length was 0.88. The correlation coefficients of anther length and pistil length were 0.33 for phenotypic and 0.44 for geno-typic.

Factors Influencing Length of Stay at the Recovery Room among Elderly Patients Undergone General Anesthesia (노인 수술 환자의 회복실 체류시간에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The study was designed to identify the factors that influence the length of stay of elderly people in the recovery room. Methods: The design of the study was descriptive correlation. The subjects were 196 general anesthesia patients. The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The average length of stay in the recovery room was 62.62 minutes. The length of stay in the recovery room was influenced by age (27.50%); number of diseases (12.97%) and albumin level (6.75%). Other related post operative factors (30.98%) were abnormal ABGA, shivering, PAR score, pain, arrhythmia, amount of bleeding, cardiovascular complication, hypertension and delirium. Those factors explained 78.2% out of the total variance of the length of stay. The strongest effector was the abnormal ABGA (${\beta}$=.226) and then shivering (${\beta}$=.222). Conclusion: The influencing factors should be assessed and monitored for the aged before and after surgery. Further research is needed to find the exact factors for ICU transfer elderly from recovery room and emergency surgery target.

A Study on Change in the Length of Knit Flare Skirt through Mechanical Properties (역학적 특성에 따른 니트 플레어 스커트의 길이 변화에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects of knit samples' mechanical properties on changes of skirt length of knit flared skirt, and to compare it to the knitting method of a seamless knitted flare skirt. So, I compared the appearance and 3-dimensional shape of a seamless knitted flare skirt with those of a fully cut knit flared skirt. For this study, 18 kinds of cut and sew or seamless knitted test garment were made. The data analysis methods used in this study were descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The results are as follows: The result of the evaluation of knit samples' mechanical properties by the KES-FB system showed that elongation decreased as gauge increased and course direction was greatest among grain directions. The length change after wearing the knitted flare skirts appeared wholly equal to the seamless knitted, compared with the cut and sew. The change was biggest at $180^{\circ}$, 7G of the cut and sew. In grain direction, bias cut showed more than 1.2cm of length change. As the weight and thickness increased, the length changes become larger. The regression analysis indicated that the greatest contributive variables on the length changes were elongation, weight, and thickness.

  • The positions, attitudes, and internal orientation parameters of three line scanners are critical factors in order to acquire the accurate location of objects on the ground. Based on the assumption that positions and attitudes of the sensors are derived either from direct geo-referencing which of using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), or from indirect geo-referencing which of using Ground Control Points (GCPs), this paper describes on biased effects of Internal Orientation Parameter (IOP) on the ground. The research concentrated on geometrical explanations of effects from different focal length biases on the ground. The Synthetic data was collected by reasonable flight trajectories and attitudes of three line scanners. The result of experiments demonstrated that the focal length bias in case of indirect geo-referencing does not have critical influences on the quality of reconstructed ground space. Also, the relationships between IO parameters and EO parameters were found by the correlation analysis. In fact, the focal length bias in case of the direct geo-referencing caused significant errors on coordinates of reconstructed objects. The RMSE values along the vertical direction and the amount of focal length bias turned out to be almost perfect linear relationship.

Flame Length Scaling in a Non-premixed Turbulent Diluted Hydrogen Jet with Coaxial Air (희석된 동축공기 수소 난류확산화염의 화염 길이 스케일링)

  • The effect of fuel composition on flame length was studied in a non-premixed turbulent diluted hydrogen jet with coaxial air. The observed flame length was expressed as a function of the ratio of coaxial air to fuel jet velocity and compared with a theoretical prediction based on the velocity ratio. Four cases of fuel mixed by volume were determined. In the present study, we derived a scaling correlation for predicting the flame length in a simple jet with coaxial air using the effective jet diameter in the near-field concept. The experimental results showed that visible flame length had a good relation with the theoretical prediction. The scaling analysis is also valid for diluted hydrogen jet flames with varied fuel composition.

Correlations Between Quadriceps Angle, Functional Leg Length Discrepancy and Lower Extremity Muscle Strength of Women University Students in Their Twenties (일부 20대 여대생의 넙다리네갈래근 각이 기능적 다리길이 차이 및 하지근력과의 상관관계)

  • Background: This study aims to examine correlations between quadriceps angle, lower extremity muscle strength and leg length discrepancy. Methods: This study selected 96 healthy women university students as the subjects of research. Quadriceps angle, lower extremity muscle strength and leg length discrepancy were measured. The statistical analysis of the data SPSS/window (version 12.0) were analyzed using the pearson correlation analysis. Results: There were negative correlations between the muscle strength of the right hamstring muscles and the right quadriceps angle in supine and standing positions. Functional leg length discrepancy of left and right quadriceps angle in supine and standing position showed positive correlations. Conclusions: The quadriceps angle affect the knee. An abnormal angle caused weakening of balance. Muscle strength, leg length discrepancy, and affected lower extremity alignment and knee function. These conclusions may prevent exercise limitation or disorders in the subjects and treating the patients with knee injury or patellofemoral pain syndrome with basic therapy intervention.

Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci Associated with Traits of Soybean for Sprout

  • The identification of quantitative trait loci (QTL) has the potential to enhance the efficiency of im- proving food processing traits of soybean. In this study, 92 restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) loci and two morphological markers (W$_1$ and T) were used to identify QTL associated with food processing traits of soybean for sprout in 83 F$_2$-derived lines from a cross of 'Pureun' x 'Jinpum 2'. The genetic map consisted of 76 loci which covered about 760 cM and converged into 20 linkage groups. Eighteen markers remained unlinked. Phenotypic data were collected for hypocotyl length, abnormal seedling rate, and sprout yield seven days after seed germination at 2$0^{\circ}C$. Based on the single-factor analysis of variance, eight independent markers were associated with hypocotyl length. Four of seven markers associated with abnormal seedling rate were identified as independent. Seven loci were associated with sprout yield. For three different traits, much of genetic variation was explained by the identified QTL in this population. Several RFLP markers in linkage group (LG) Bl were detected as being associated with three traits, providing a genetic explanation for the biological correlation of sprout yield with hypocotyl length (r=OA07***) and with abnormal seedling rate (r=-406***).

  • Many previous works have been performed to provide correlations of flame length, theoretically and experimentally. Most of these results studied were conducted in vertical turbulent flame with no coaxial air condition. The present study analyzes the flame length scaling with coaxial air. In turbulent hydrogen non-premixed jet flames with coaxial air, flame length scaling theoretically proposed so far has been related with the concept of a far-field equivalent source. At high coaxial air to fuel velocity ratio, $U_A/U_F$, however, this scaling theory has some difference with experimental flame length data. This difference is understood to be due to the fact that the theory is based on far-field notion, while the effect of coaxial air on jet flame occurs in the region near the nozzle exit. Therefore, we define effective jet density $P_{eff}$ involving the concept of near-field so that effective jet diameter can be extended to the near-field region. In this condition, we modify the correlation and compare with experimental data.
