This paper deals with the analysis, design, and implementation of a single phase AC-DC Zeta converter with high frequency transformer isolation and power factor correction(PFC) in two modes of operation, discontinuous current mode of operation(DCM), and continuous current mode of operation(CCM). A Digital Signal Processor(DSP) based implementation is carried out for validation of the Zeta converter developed design in discontinuous mode of operation. A comparison of both modes of operation is presented for a 1kW power rating from the point of view of steady state and dynamic behavior, power quality, simplicity, control technique, device rating, and converter size. The experimental results of a developed prototype of Zeta converter are presented for validation of the developed design. It is observed that CCM is most suitable for higher power applications where it requires some complex control and sensing of the additional variables.
Two-stage Power-Factor-Correction (PFC) converters are the most common circuits for drawing sinusoidal and in phase current waveforms from an ac source with a good regulated output voltage. The first stage is a boost PFC converter with average-current-mode control for achieving the near-unity power factor and the second stage is a forward converter with voltage-mode control to regulate the output voltage. Stability analysis and design methods of two-stage PFC converters have previously been discussed using linear models. Recently, new nonlinear phenomena have been detected in pre-regulator boost PFC circuits and a new nonlinear model has been proposed for pre-regulated PFC converters. Therefore, investigation of two-stage PFC converters from the nonlinear viewpoint becomes important because the second stage DC/DC converter adds more complexity to the circuit. So, this paper introduces a study of the stability of two-stage PFC converters. A novel nonlinear model of two-stage PFC converters is proposed. Then, a stability analysis is made based upon this nonlinear model. The high correspondence between the simulated and experimental results confirms our analysis.

This paper presents a new structure of single-stage flyback power factor correction (PFC) converter with a controllable coupled negative magnetic feedback (NMF) winding. NMF winding is used to reduce the bulk capacitor voltage at high line voltages and light loads. However, it would cause line current distortion at zero crossing condition. In the proposed circuit, a series winding is used with NMF inductor to eliminate the NMF inductor at low line voltages. As a result, the dead angle of the input current, near zero voltage crossing, is eliminated and the power factor is increased. The presented experimental results of the proposed PFC converter confirm the integrity of the new idea and the theoretical analysis.
This paper introduces a simple grid-voltage-sensorless control scheme for single-phase power factor correction (PFC) boost converters. The grid voltage waveform is obtained based on the dc output voltage, the switching duty ratio, and a phase-lead compensator. In addition, the duty ratio feedback is utilized to obtain the unity input power factor and the zero harmonic current. The proposed control scheme is designed and mathematically analyzed based on a small-signal model of PFC boost converters. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, several simulations and experiments are carried out in two applications: an industrial power system with a 60 Hz grid frequency and a commercial aircraft application with a 400 Hz grid frequency.
A new ZVZCS Single-Stage Power-Factor-Correction(PFC) AC/DC converter with boost PFC cell is integrated with voltage doubler rectified asymmetrical half-bridge(VDRAHB) is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter features good power factor correction, low current harmonic distortions, tight output regulations and low voltage of link capacitor. An 85W prototype was implemented to show that it meets the harmonic requirements and standards satisfactorily with nearly unity power factor and high efficiency over universal input.
Two-stage power factor correction (PFC) converter with a single PWM controller is proposed. It consists of a power factor pre-regulator cascaded by an isolated DC/DC converter as in a conventional two-stage approach. However, a single PWM controller is used as in a single-stage, single-switch PFC approach. This converter gives the goof power factor correction, low line current harmonic distortions, and tight output voltage regulations. This converter also has a high efficiency by employing an soft switching method. The proposed approach has advantages such as high performance over the single-stage approach and low cost over two-stage approach. The experimental results obtained on a 300W (30V/10A) prototype PFC converter are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method.
This paper proposes the controller design for a stability improvement of an on-board battery charger. The system is comprised of a power factor correction (PFC) circuit and phase shift full-bridge DC-DC converter. The PFC circuit performs the control of the DC-link voltage and the input power factor. The DC-DC converter regulates the voltage and the current in the battery using the DC-link voltage. This paper proposes the design method of PI controller for the PFC circuit using a small signal model. The analysis and design of a type-three controller for the DC-DC converter is also presented. A simulation and experiment has been performed on the on-board battery charger and their results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed system.
A new three-level push-pull type quantum series resonant rectifier for the power factor correction is proposed. The proposed single phase rectifier enables a zero-current switching operation of all the power devices allowing the circuit to operate at high switching frequencies and high power levels. With the proposed control technique, an unity power factor and greatly reduced line current harmonics can be obtained.
On-the-fly(OTF) generation of Spectral Superhomogenization(SSPH) factors is analyzed in the multigroup(MG) whole core calculation employing pin-wise continuous energy(CE) slowing-down solutions. The motivation for the work is to avoid the huge computing time required for the generation of a parametrized SSPH factor library(PSSL) which is used to resolve the angular dependency of MG resonance cross sections, and also to exploit the advantage of flexible choice of a MG structure by using CE slowing-down solutions. Two pin-wise CE slowing-down methods, the equivalent Dancoff cell method and the shadowing effect correction method, are evaluated with the OTF SSPH method. The effectiveness of the OTF SSPH method is examined for various simplified and realistic core problems with various MG structures. It is demonstrated that the computing time overhead of this method is negligible whereas the solution accuracy is considerably enhanced.
This study aims to conduct the comparative analysis of the radiation dose according to before and after the calibration of the ionization chamber used for measuring radiation dose in the MDCT, as well as of $CTDI_w$ according to temperature and pressure correction factors in the CT room. A comparative analysis was conducted based on the measured MDCT (GE light speed plus 4 slice, USA) data using head and body CT dosimetric phantom, and Model 2026C electrometer (RADICAL 2026C, USA) calibrated on March 21, 2007. As a result, the $CTDI_w$ value which reflected calibration factors, as well as correction factors of temperature and pressure, was found to be the range of $0.479{\sim}3.162mGy$ in effective radiation dose than the uncorrected values. Also, under the routine abdomen routine CT image acquisition conditions used in reference hospitals, patient effective dose was measured to indicate the difference of the maximum of 0.7 mSv between before and after the application of such factors. These results imply that the calibration of the ion chamber, and the correction of temperature and pressure of the CT room are crucial in measuring and calculating patient effective dose. Thus, to measure patient radiation dose accurately, the detailed information should be made available regarding not only the temperature and pressure of the CT room, but also the humidity and recombination factor, characteristics of X-ray beam quality, exposure conditions, scan region, and so forth.
