The iron loss coefficients was estimated different according to electrical steel material used to stator and rotor core in motor. Aspect of The rotating flux field and alternating flux field was confirmed by magnetic field behavior and harmonic analysis in stator core, the iron loss was calculated using flux density by Finite Element Method(FEM) and estimated coefficients by iron loss coefficient estimation proposed in this paper. The iron loss experiment was performed for verified to iron loss calculation, and the iron loss coefficients were verified by comparison of iron loss calculation value and experimental value.

  • In this paper, the rotational loss of the superconductor flywheel energy storage system (SFES) by motor/generator stator core was assessed. To do this, the vertical axial type SFES with journal type superconductor bearing was manufactured. To quantitatively assess the rotational loss by the stator core, the rotational losses by superconductor bearing and the degree of a vacuum were measured. In case of variation of the inner radius and outer radius of the stator core, the rotational losses were measured. From the experimental results, It is confirmed that the rotational loss can be reduced by means of the optimal stator core design.

  • We reported a P/M soft magnetic material with core loss value of $W_{10/1k}=68W/kg$, which is lower than that of 0.35mm-thick laminated material, by using high purity gas-atomized iron powder. Lack of mechanical strength and high cost of powder production are significant issues for industrial use. In order to achieve both low core loss and high strength by using inexpencive powder, the improvement of powder shape and surface morphology and binder strength was conducted. As the result, the material based on water-atomized powder with 80 MPa of TRS and 108 W/kg of core loss (W10/1k) was achieved.

  • This paper deals with the core loss calculation of a BLDC motor made of Soft Magnetic Composite material. Since the teeth of motor partially have overhang in axial direction, 3 - dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network (3D-EMCN) is used as an analytical method to get flux density of each element. The total core loss is calculated with the magnetic flux density and core loss curves of the SMC material. The calculated result is compared with core loss of the motor without overhang in stator teeth.

  • During magnetic inrush or over-excitation, saturation of the core in a transformer draws a large exciting current, which can cause mal-operation of a differential relay. This paper proposes a modified current differential relay for transformer protection. The relay calculates core-loss current from the induced voltage and the core-loss resistance; the relay calculates the magnetizing current from the core flux and the magnetization curve. Finally, the relay obtains the modified differential current by subtracting the core-loss and the magnetizing currents from the conventional differential current. Comparison study with the conventional differential relay with harmonic blocking is also shown. The proposed technique not only discriminates magnetic inrush and over-excitation from an internal fault, but also improves the speed of the conventional relay.

This paper proposes a modified-current-differential relay for transformer protection. The relay calculates the core-loss current from the induced voltage and the core-loss resistance as well as the magnetizing current from the core flux and the magnetization curve. A comparative study of the conventional differential relay with harmonic blocking is presented. • According to the manufacturing process of the laminated stator core for an inserted permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), the iron loss may be different. It is because the mechanical stress imposed to electrical steel sheet is strongly dependent on the manufacturing process. This paper proposes a new iron loss measurement algorithm which utilizes the induced voltage of a search coil and exciting current. The method is effective even when the distribution of magnetic flux density is not uniform along the magnetic flux path as well as uniform. The developed iron loss measurement system is applied to bonded- and embossed-type segmented stator cores of an IPMSM, and the iron losses are quantitatively compared.

  • The need for more efficient transformer core materials, due to increased recognition by the loss reduction of electric utilities, has spurred the development of amorphous metal usage in transformer. The loss of amorphous core is one third to one fourth that of silicon steel at equivalent inductions 15KG and below. Thus, the substitution of amorphous metal for conventional silicon steel in a transformer core can reduce core loss by 75%. This paper describes the development trend, the manufacturing processes of amorphous core transformer and the characteristics of amorphous core transformer in comparison with those of silicon core transformer.

  • This paper proposes a compensating algorithm for the secondary current of the measurement current transformer (CT) that removes the effects of the hysteresis characteristics of the iron-core. The exciting current resulting from the hysteresis characteristics of the core causes an error between the primary current and the secondary current of the measurement CT. The exciting current can be decomposed into the magnetizing current and the core loss current. The core loss current is obtained from the measured secondary current and the core loss resistance. The core flux linkage is calculated by integrating the measured secondary current, and then inserted into the flux-magnetizing current curve to obtain the magnetizing current. The exciting current at every sampling interval is obtained by summing the core-loss and magnetizing currents and then added to the measured current to obtain the correct current. The performance of the proposed algorithm is validated under various conditions using EMTP generated data. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm can improve the accuracy of the measurement CT significantly, and thus reduce the size and the cost of the measurement CT.
