  • Background: Neck pain is a common problem in the general population and second only to low back pain in musculoskeletal problems. The aim of this study is to compare three different types of exercise training in patients with chronic neck pain. Methods: This study was conducted on 45 patients with neck pain. Patients were divided into 3 groups: Group 1 (conventional treatment), Group 2 (conventional treatment plus deep cervical flexor training), and Group 3 (conventional treatment plus stabilization of the neck and core region). The exercise programs were applied for four weeks, three days a week. The demographic data, pain intensity (verbal numeric pain scale), posture (Reedco's posture scale), cervical range of motion ([ROM] goniometer), and disability (Neck Disability Index [NDI]) were evaluated. Results: In all groups, a significant improvement was found in terms of pain, posture, ROM, and NDI values in all groups (P < 0.001). Between the groups, analyses showed that the pain and posture improved more in Group 3, while the ROM and NDI improved more in Group 2. Conclusions: In addition to conventional treatment, applying core stabilization exercises or deep cervical flexor muscle training to patients with neck pain may be more effective in reducing pain and disability and increasing ROM than conventional treatment alone.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the difference in the quality of muscle contraction and kick movements according to the presence or absence of back pain in body kick movements of mixed martial arts athletes. Method: In this study, four athletes (32.75 ± 4.79 yrs, 172.50 ± 5.20 cm, 77.73 ± 13.28 kg) who have suffered chronic back pain for more than three months and scored 12 points in the Korean version of ODI. Four painless athletes (33.50 ± 4.04 yrs, 174.25 ± 3.10 cm, 83.50 ± 10.21 kg) participated. Results: During the body kick operation, the pain group had significantly higher muscle activity in the right Transversus abdominis and right Rectus femoris compared to the normal group (p<.05). In the rectus abdominis, the muscle activity was significantly lower than that of the normal group (p<.05). Also, the pain group has a higher toe speed than the normal group Significantly slow (p<.05), there was a delay in contraction of the Transversus abdominis. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that chronic pain in the lumbar spine degrades the core's function, resulting in inefficient coordination such as Transversus abdominis contraction delay and Transversus abdominis and Rectus femoris excessive activation to compensate for it.

  • Statements of problem: Zirconia core is used for posterior fixed partial dentures because it's good mechanical properties. Stress is concentrated on connectors in fixed partial dentures, so the proper design of connector areas is needed for adequate mechanical long-term properties of any prosthesis. The area of connector is critical, but tooth size and surrounding soft tissue limit the connector design. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare fracture strengths between different connector designs of zirconia core for posterior fixed partial dentures manufactured with CAD/CAM system and determining the optimal connector design satisfying strength and hygiene. Material and method: The following four groups of 40 posterior fixed partial denture specimens(each group 10) were fabricated as followed; group 1 vertical height of connector is 3mm (control group, all groups have the same condition); group 2, lingual vertical 1mm reinforcement on connector; group 3, lingual vertical 2mm reinforcing on connector and group 4, lingual vertical 3mm reinforcing on connector. Specimens were subjected to compressive loading on the central fossa of pontic by instron. SEM was used to identify the initial crack and characterize the fracture mode. Results: The results were as follows: 1. The mean fracture load of the non-lingual reinforcing group was 1212N and the lingual vertical 1mm reinforcing group was 1510N, the lingual vertical 2mm reinforcing group was 1882N, the lingual vertical 3mm reinforcing group was 1980N. 2. The reinforcing groups were statistically significant compared to non-reinforcing groups(P<0.001). 3. There were 2, 3mm reinforcing groups that were statistically significant compared to 1mm reinforcing groups(P<0.001), and the 3mm reinforcing group was not statistically significant compared to 2mm reinforcing groups(P>0.05) 4. Fractures were initiated in gingival embrasures of connectors and processed to the loading site. Conclusion: In this study, lingual reinforcement of connector for improved strength of zirconia based fixed partial denture is nessasary. And long-term study for clinical application is required

  • This study investigated the effect of filler particle size and weight% on mechanical properties of dental core porcelain. In alumina, variation in particle size and weight% and in zirconia, variation in weight%, all specimens were tested three-point bending strength, transmittance, thermal expansion coefficient, porosity and shrinkage and observed with SEM and analysed with X-ray diffractometer. In order to develop shrink-free porcelain, after firing alumina only, glass wasinfiltrated. And aluminum was added to alumina with the expanding character of aluminum oxidize into alumina, and was followed by second firing of glass infiltration procedure. Then mechanical properties were observed. The results of this study were obtained as follows. 1. The bending strength of zirconia was higher than that of alumina, and $5{\mu}m$ alumina had highest strength in variation of particle size of alumina. Except for $5{\mu}m$ alumina, increased with weight%, bending strength increased up to 80% and decreased at 90%. In case of glass infiltration, bending strength was slight higher than 80% and 90% of $5{\mu}m$ alumina. 2. Transmittance increased with increase of shrinkage, decrease of porosity, and with increase of filler size and had no direct correlation with weight%. 3. Thermal expansion coefficient of alumina group was $7.42\sim8.64\times10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ and that of zirconia group was $9.83\sim12.11\times10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ and the latter was higher than the former. 4. In x-ray diffraction analysis, alumina group and zirconia group increased $Al_2O_3$ peak and $t-ZrO_2$ peak with increase of weight%. The second phase(cristobalite peak) was observed in zirconia 40% group. 5. Porosity of zirconia was lower than that of alumina and $5{\mu}m$ alumina group had many pores with SEM. In case of low filler content, fracture occurred in glass and high filler content, in glass and filler. In case of aluminum addition to alumina, small oxidised aluminum was observed. 6. Zirconia group had high shrinkage than alumina group, and mixed group of alumina group had high shrinkage. In case of glass infiltration, shrinkage decreased and aluminum addition to alumina group was almost shrink-free.

  • Background: central core disease is one of the non-progressive benign congenital myopathies characterized by the presence of cores in muscle fibers, which was originally described by Shy and Magee (1956). We describe clinical charcteristics of central core disease in a Korean family manifested by autosomal dominant pattern through three generations. Methods: Clinical, serologic, and electrophysiologic profiles were evaluated in eleven members among 22 family members through three generations. Results: Six family members were symptomatic and five were non-symptomatic. Instead of proximal muscle weakness, musculoskeletal manifestations including non-specific joint pain and stiff sense were the most frequent symptoms. Muscle biopsy performed in two symptomatic patients revealed that type I fiber showed central halo, which is charactreristics of central core disease. No remarkable findings were present in serologic study including CPK level and electromyographic findings suggesting myopathic pattern were only present in two patients among 11 symptomatic group. Conclusions: In evaluating non-specific musculoskeletal complaints from the familial members showing genetic trait, central core disease should be considered to one of the possible diagnosis.

  • We proposed a two-mode fiber (TMF) design that can effectively reduce the mode overlap between $LP_{01}$ and $LP_{11}$ modes by using a W-shaped index profile core structure, which is a primary concern in uncoupled mode division multiplexing (MDM). TMF has a three-layered core structure; central circular core, inner cladding, and outer ring core. We confirmed that in an optimal structure the $LP_{01}$ mode was highly confined to the central core while the $LP_{11}$ mode was guided along the outer ring core to result in a minimum overlap integral. We used a full-vectorial finite element method to estimate effective index, differential group delay (DGD), confinement loss, chromatic dispersion, and mode overlap controlling the parameters of the W-shaped structure. The optimized W-profile fiber provided optical characteristics within the ITU-T recommended standards over the entire C+L band.

  • Software Communication Architecture(SCA) has been made to reduce the development period of new waveform applications by reusing design modules. Software Defined Radio(SDR) forum adopted SCA specification and follows its design concept. However, SCA specification does not describe interfaces and deployments of resources in details, which are software components, and how to implement them as well as how to communicate each other are another missing points in specification. In this paper, we propose a resource design methodology and details of adapter implementation for Core Framework(CF) that is a core set of open interface and services providing an abstraction of the underlying software and hardware layer. We also present SDR prototype system which communicates with resources implemented in different programming languages and processors in legacy environment through our design methodology.
