  • Steel tire cords were subjected to plasma polymerization coating of acetylene in order to enhance the adhesion to rubber compounds. Plasma polymerization coating was varied to plasma polymerization coating of acetylene, argon plasma etching+plasma polymerization, or argon plasma. etching+plasma polymerization with Ar carrier gas. Adhesion was evaluated via TCAT samples and compared to those with brass coated tire cord. For durability study, plasma polymer cooled tire cords were aged in lab atmosphere for 1, 3, 5, 10 or 15 days, while TCAT specimens prepared with plasma polymer coated tire cords were aged in distilled water, 10% NaCl solution or $100^{\circ}C$ oven for 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks. After testing, failure surfaces were analyzed with SEM/EDX. Among the treatments, the highest adhesion was obtained by Ar etching+acetylene plasma. polymerization coating with Ar carrier gas, providing almost same pull-out force as the brass coated tire cords. Upon the aging of the tire cords in the lab atmosphere, brass coated tire cords provided better adhesion than plasma polymer coated tire cords, while the TCAT samples with plasma polymer coated tire cords exhibited similar or slightly superior durability to those with brass coated tire cords.

  • In this paper, we experimented on the deterioration process of power supply cords and analyzed the heating temperature of each part of those cords. We also analyzed the surface states, metallurgical structures surface structures and compositions of the wire melted by over-current. In the results of the analyses, the covering began to be deteriorated from the inside. The heating temperature of extension cord was higher than that of plug body. The dendrite structures appeared at the melted wire. By the SEM and EDS analyses, the dendrite structure showed the growth of copper oxide. We found out the characteristics of PVC insulated flexible cords by over-current from the above experiments and analyses. These results may be useful data in the analyses of deterioration causes of power supply cords.

  • Steel tire cords were coated via RF Plasma Polymerization of acetylene in order to enhance adhesion to rubber compounds. Adhesion of tire cords was measured by TACT as a function of plasma polymerization and argon etching conditions such as power, treatment time and chamber pressure. Tested tire cords were analysed by SEM to elucidate the adhesion mechanism. The highest adhesion values were obtained with argon etching condition at 90W, 10min, 30mtorr followed by acetylene plasma polymerization condition at 10W, 30sec., 30mtorr. In SEM analysis, the plasma polymerized tire cord at the optimized condition showed 100% rubber coverage as observed from brass-plated steel tire cords.

  • Vitamin $D_3$ up-regulated protein 1 (VDUP1) gene is known to be a novel member of early response genes as an oxidative stress mediator. To elucidate role of VDUP1 expression in neuronal injury, VDUP1 gene expression and histological change were tested in the spinal cords after traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) in young and adult rats. VDUP1 transcript was detected weakly in a few cells in the spinal cords of control young and adult rats. VDUP1 transcript was increased in the contused spinal cords 1 day after SCI in both young and adult rats. VDUP1 transcript was decreased in the spinal cords 7 days after SCI in young rats. However, VDUP1 transcript was not decrease significantly 7 days in the spinal cords after SCI in adult rats. Cell damage in the spinal cords and hind limb dysfunction were more prominent 7 days after SCI in adult rats compared with that in young rats. These data show that VDUP1 may be involved in neurodegeneration after traumatic SCI.

  • The electrical fire frequently happens through carelessness of a vinyl and rubber cords such as a poor contact, a mechanical stress and so on. Electrical fire occupies the greater part(about 30%) of all fires in Korea. In this paper, we compared to the fire dispersive patterns of vinyl and rubber cords according to the external flame in the wall-model. The fire progress and dispersive patterns were measured by a high speed imaging system(HG-100K, REDLAKE, USA). From the results, short-circuit of the vinyl cords are easy to happen than the rubber cords by the external flame. The pattern of fire was progressed a flashover, scattering and disconnection. The fire progress on the vinyl cord is not observed because the ignition energy decreases. However, the fire was progressed continuously on the rubber cord.

  • In this paper, a new vocal cords model, called a four-mass model, is proposed for a hoarse speech mechanism. Pathological changes of vocal cords cause hoarse speech and glottal waveform reflects motion states of vocal cords. From these facts, we assumed that the morbid vocal cords be dissymmetric and take the four-mass type. The glottal waveforms and the model parameters of normal and hoarse speech signals are analyzed, and some relations bet ween the model parameters and the hoarse pathology are discussed. Experimental results show that the new research method of hoarse speech can reveal relations between the acoustic features of hoarse speech and the hoarse pathology, and be used to diagnose laryngeal diseases and to improve tone quality of hoarse speech.

  • From the study on the relation of voice and O-jang(五臟廳), the conclusion is as follows. The function of breathing out in larynx is involved with lung and kidney. Lung press out the air, at the same time, kidney supports that to maintenance the density of air constantly. So the person who has short breathing can not make strong voice, and also if having a weak kidney in upper Cho[下蕉], their voice will be changed so very softly to cannot make hard type of voice and lingering sounds. Opening and Closing of vocal cords are controled by liver and spleen. when vocal cords are contracted, liver makes tension, whereas spleen does in slackness. So liver is likely to make high-piched sounds in tension of vocal cords, and spleen is the same to do smoothy and husky sounds through relaxing the vocal cords. In the rising condition of liver function, the temp of speech become fast, and more the pronunciation is clearer, it means that the function of thinking by spleen is operated well. Otherwise, indistinct pronunciation means that in the body seup-sa(濕邪) spreads. Also depression of emotion in speech often makes Gi(氣) of heart weaker, whereas it means regular condition of heart including Simpo(心包) that expression of emotion looks happy.

  • This paper proposes a technique for analyzing mutual relation of an entangled cord by consistent labeling. Cords are often entangled unexpectedly and sometimes they even produce knots. The purpose of this study is to provide an algorithm to resolve such entangled cords automatically. It may as well have applications in future to recognizing the structure of tree branches, angiography, abdominal intestines, etc.

  • Recently, fiber optic sensors, which have many advantages are being applied in various fields by replacing conventional electric sensors. To transmit the light signals between an interrogator and a sensor head, optical components such as an optical adaptor and optical jumper cords are generally used. When signals are transmitted using an adaptor, the end surface of each jumper cord is faced together. If alien substances exist on the core surface of an optical fiber, those can cause light transmission loss and signal disappearance. For this reason, non-contact fiber jumper cords are developed to overcome the problems that require continual attention. The light transmission performance of non-contact fiber jumper cords are also evaluated. From the test results, conventional fiber jumper cords are unable to transmit the signals over 2 mm cavity between the ends of both cords. Otherwise, non-contact fiber jumper cords can transmit the signals with stability up to the cavity of 7 mm though they have more transmission loss than the conventional ones. Consequently, non-contact fiber jumper cords that have better signal stability than conventional ones in environments are highly recommended in field applications, especially if they play a role as a cable for signal transmission between fiber optic sensors.
