Hydrothermal Synthesis of Rod-like Copper Oxide Crystals

  • A hyrdrothermal synthesis has been developd to prepare rod-like crystals of copper oxide using copper nitrate trihydrate as a function of synthesis temperature, stirring speed and solution pH value. The properties of the fabricated crystals were studied using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and particle size analysis. The morphology of the synthesized CuO was dependent on both the pH value of the solution and the morphology of the seed materials. Synthesized particles have regular morphologies and a uniform size distribution.

카자흐스탄 구리제련소 슬래그 내 구리회수를 위한 선별 특성 (Characteristic of Flotation for Recovery of Copper from Copper Slag in Kazakhstan)

  • 일반적으로 구리제련 슬래그내 구리함량은 0.5-3.7% 혹은 그 이상의 높은 비율로 포함되어 있며, 슬래그내 구리회수에 대한 대표적인 방법으로는 부유선별, 침출 그리고 배소가 있다. 본 연구에서는 부유선별법에 의한 구리 회수방법을 검토하였으며, 잔세이트포수제를 이용한 황화부선을 수행하였다. 산성과 알칼리 조건에서 부유선별 특성을 관찰하였으며, pH 4 에서 구리회수율 50%, pH 11 에서 구리회수율 67%로 나타났으며, 특히 pH 11에서는 $100{\mu}m$ 이상의 입자가 정광으로 부유되어 회수율이 상대적으로 높게 나타나는 경향을 보였다. 슬래그 입도를 200 mesh 이하로 분쇄하여 단체분리도를 향상시켜 pH조건별 부유선별 실험을 수행한 결과, 회수율이 78 - 83%까지 향상되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Copper is able to work as a current collector under wide range of hydrocarbon fuels without coking in Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The application of copper in SOFC is limited due to its low melting point, which result in coarsening the copper particle. This work focuses on the sintering of copper powder with ceria coating layer. Ceria-coated powder was prepared by thermal decomposition of urea in $Ce(NO_3)_3\cdot6H_2O$ solution, which containing CuO core particles. The ceria-coated powder was characterized by XRD, ICP, and SEM. The thermal stability of the ceria-coated copper in fuel atmosphere $(H_2)$ was observed by SEM. It was found that the ceria coating layer could effectively hinder the grain growth of the copper particles.

진사 유약의 발색 특성 연구 (Coloration Characteristics of Copper Red Glaze)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the coloration characteristics by identifying the factor affecting red coloration of copper red glaze in traditional Korean ceramics. This study analyzed the characteristics of the reduction-fired copper red glaze by using XRD, Raman spectroscopy, EDX and UV-vis spectroscopy. As a result of XRD analysis, the glaze completely melted and amorphous glass appeared overall, and the characteristic peak of metal Cu was shown together. In addition, as a result of Raman analysis, the characteristic bands of CuO and $Cu_2O$ were shown together. The distribution of component elements was observed by EDX. As a result, copper(Cu) were distributed throughout the glaze. Thus, it was shown that copper red glaze appeared the best red coloration because metal Cu, CuO and $Cu_2O$ evenly existed throughout glaze in particle colloidal state. The chroma value of the copper red glaze was CIE $L^*$ 30.07, $a^*$ 13.65, $b^*$ 3.72. Wine-Red Solution was shown by Dark Graish Red coloration.

  • Copper has attractive properties as a multi-level interconnection material due to lower resistivity and higher electromigration resistance as compared with Alumina and its alloy with Copper(0.5%). Among a variety of agents in Copper CMP slurry, $H_2O_2$ has commonly been used as the oxidizer However. $H_2O_2$ is so unstable that it requires stabilization to use as oxidizer Hence, stabilization of $H_2O_2$ is a vital process to get better yield in practical CMP process. In this article the stability of Hydrogen Peroxide as oxidizer of Copper CMP slurry has been investigated. When alumina abrasive was used, $\gamma$-particle Alumina C had a better stability than $\alpha$-particle abrasive. As adding KOH as pH buffering agent, $H_2O_2$ stability in slurry decreased. Urea hydrogen peroxide was used as oxidizer, an enhanced stability was gotten. When $H_3PO_4$ as $H_2O_2$ stabilizer was added, the decrease of $H_2O_2$ concentration in slurry became slower. Even though adding $H_2O_2$ in slurry after bead milling lead to better stability than in advance of bead milling, it had a lower dispersibility.

  • The copper oxide nano powders were synthesized by levitational gas condensation(LGC) method, and their high heterogeneous catalytic effects of oxidation of 2,3,5-trimethyl-1,4- hydroquinone (TMHQ) and catalase activity were studied. The observation of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) shows that most of these nano powders are uniform in size, with the average particle size of 35 nm. The nano powder consists of mainly $Cu_2O$, but it is aged to CuO phase. The catalytic effect which was clarified by oxidation of TMHQ and catalase depends on the amount of cuprite phase and the particle size.

  • Varing the flow velocity of solution and particle diameter, the mass transfer coefficient of the local electrode on current feeder has been measured in an empty flow reactor, an inert fluidized bed electrode reactor, and an active fluidized bed electrode reactor. It had its maximium value when the bed porosity was 0.6 to 0.65 and decreased with in- creasing the height of local electrode. The mass transfer coefficient was found to be high especially when higher particle was fluidized. Electrochemical deposition of copper dissolved in the synthesized wastewater has been performed in the active fluidized bed electrode reactor. The deduction rate was higher than 90% and the residual concentration of copper decreased to less than 5ppm.

  • Replacement of aluminum by copper for interconnections in the semiconductor industry has raised a number of important issues. The integration of copper interconnection can be carried out by CMP(chemical mechanical polishing) is used to planarize the surface topography. In this experiments, we evaluated the optimization of several conditions for chemical additives during Cu CMP process. It was presented that the main cause of grown particle size is tartaric acid. The particle size was in inverse propotion to a quantity of bead and the time of milling process. The slurry stabilizer and oxidizer have been shown to have very good effect by addition in later milling process.

  • Ultra-fine copper powders with particle size about 150 nm were synthesized from copper hydroxide slurry by wet method using hydrazine as reduction agent and several sur factants at below $80^{\circ}C$. The particle size distribution and dispersion of synthesized powders as function of temperature, feeding rate of reduction and especially, sur factants were character ized by XRD, BET, PSA and SEM by this process.

  • Cu-Fe alloys (CFAs) are much anticipated for use in electrical contacts, magnetic recorders, and sensors. The low cost of Fe has inspired the investigation of these alloys as possible replacements for high-cost Cu-Nb and Cu-Ag alloys. Here, alloys of Cu and Fe having compositions of $Cu_{100-x}Fe_x$ (x = 10, 30, and 50 wt.%) are prepared by gas atomization and characterized microstructurally and structurally based on composition and powder size with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Grain sizes and Fe-rich particle sizes are measured and relationships among composition, powder size, and grain size are established. Same-sized powders of different compositions yield different microstructures, as do differently sized powders of equal composition. No atomic-level alloying is observed in the CFAs under the experimental conditions.
