Atmospheric Corrosion Behavior of Carbon Steel by the Outdoor Exposure Test for 10 Years in Korea

  • Steel was exposed in an atmospheric environment, and atmospheric environmental factors that include chloride, humidity, SO2, NO2 etc. induced the corrosion of steel. Corrosivity categories classified by SO2 and chloride deposition rate were low, but those classified by TOW were high in the Korean Peninsula, and on these environmental categories, the corrosivity of atmospheres classified by corrosion rate in carbon steel was low medium, C2-C3, and medium, C3 for zinc, copper, and aluminum. This work performed the outdoor exposure test for 10 years at 14 areas in Korea and calculated the atmospheric corrosion rate of carbon steel. The atmospheric corrosion behavior of carbon steel is discussed based on the various corrosion factors. When the corrosion product forms on carbon steel by atmospheric corrosion, cracks may also be formed, and through these cracks, the environmental factors can penetrate into the interior of the product, detach some of the corrosion products and finally corrode locally. Thus, the maximum corrosion rate was about 7.3 times greater than the average corrosion rate. The color difference and glossiness of carbon steel by the 10 year-outdoor exposure tests are discussed based on the corrosion rate and the environmental factors.

폐산의 재활용 현황 및 관리 방안 (Present Condition on the Recycling and Management for Waste Acids)

  • 세계 각국은 폐기물의 발생 및 처리 문제를 극복하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 특히, 매년 발생량이 증가하고 있는 폐산은 처리보다는 재활용에 대한 관심이 크게 증가하고 있는 상황이지만, 국내외적으로 재활용 생성물의 품질규정이 불명확하고 관리체계 또한 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 폐산 생성물의 효율적 관리방안을 마련하기 위해 본 연구에서는 국내의 폐산 발생 및 재활용 관련 현황을 조사하였으며, 이를 통해 현재 국내에서 재활용되고 있는 폐산의 주요 생성물을 조사하였다. 그 결과 염화철, 황산철, 청화제1동, 산화동, 치환동이 주요 재활용 생성물인 것으로 나타났다. 장차 이들 생성물에 대한 체계적인 관리체제를 구축함으로서 폐산 자원화를 제고할 뿐 아니라 환경오염 방지와 같은 긍정적인 결과를 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

치과 보철물 합금 성분중 니켈, 코발트, 크롬 및 구리에 대한 감작률에 관한 조사 연구 (SENSITIVITY TO NICKEL, COBALT, CHROME, & COFFER IN DENIAL ALLOYS)

  • In dentistry, precious metal alloys are, mainly due to economic factors, increasingly displaced by alternatives containing Ni-Cr-Co. There are some reports where hypersensitive reactions to Ni-Cr-Co alloys are presented and discussed. The reactions reported vary from mucosa contact stomatitis to generalized dermatitis without any oral mucosal reaction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of nickel, chrome, cobalt and copper, and to know whether subjects with positive skin reaction to nickel would also demonstrate adverse intraoral reaction to a non-precious metal nickel. The patch tests were performed in 81 subjects(male 39, female 42) and nickel sulfate 5% aq., potassium bichromate 0.5% at., cobalt chloride 2% aq., & copper sulfate 1% aq., were used for test allergens. And then the intraoral tests were performed in 16 subjects, 8 subjects with positive allergic skin reaction to nickel and 8 subjects with negative allergic skin reaction. A pure metallic nickel plate was attached to the buccal side of the upper second premolar. The results are as follows : 1. The frequency of nickel sensitivity was 9.9% (2 men, 6 women), cobalt was 4.9% (1 man, 3 women), and chrome was 2.5% (2 men) respectively and there was no positive reaction to copper 2. The positive reactions were 8 of 23 (34.8%) with a history of jewelry allergic reactions and 3 of 58 (5.1%) without a history of jewelry allergic reactions. 3. Three of 8 subjects with positive skin reaction. gave reactions to the metal plates.

국내 담수새우인 새뱅이 (Neocardina denticulata)를 이용한 중금속의 급성독성시험 (Acute Toxicity Test of Heavy Metals Using Korean Freshwater Shrimp, Neocardina denticulata)

  • Indigenous species means a species that is likely, due to historical presence, to occur at a specified site for some portion of its life span. Therefore, indigenous species can be useful as an indicator to assess environmental risk caused by hazardous chemicals in a specific site. So far a few toxicity studies using freshwater species which are indigenous to Korea have been carried out. In this study, a freshwater shrimp (Neocardina denticulata) indigenous to Korea was used for acute toxicity test of heavy metals. Neocardina denticulata were exposed to cadmium chloride $(CdCl_2)$, copper chloride $(CuCl_2)$ and zinc chloride $(ZnCl_2)$ using automatic flow-through system for 96 hours. The 96h LC50s were calculated as 0.043 $(0.042{\sim}0.045)mg\;CdCl_2/L,\;0.104(0.098{\sim}0.113)mg\; CuCl_2/L\;and\;2.021\;(1.633{\sim}2.594)mg\;ZnCl_2/L$. When compaired with some international standard species such as medaka(Oryzias latipes), Neocardina denticulata had high sensitivity. Therefore, this study suggested that Neocardina denticulata have possibilities for a sensitive test species to test heavy metal toxicity in aqua-system.

Optimization of Laccase Production from Bacillus sp. PK4 through Statistical Design of Experiments

  • Statistical design of experiments was employed to optimize the media composition for the production of laccase from Bacillus sp. PK4. In order to find the key ingredients for the best yield of enzyme production from the selected eleven variables viz yeast extract, glucose, zinc sulphate, copper sulphate, potassium chloride, magnesium sulphate, calcium chloride, ferrous sulphate, sodium chloride, potassium dihydrogen phosphate ($KH_2PO_4$) and dipotassium hydrogen phosphate ($K_2HPO_4$), Plackett-Burman design was applied. The $MgSO_4$, $FeSO_4$, and $CuSO_4$ showed positive estimate, and their concentration optimized further. The steepest ascent method and Box-Behnken method revealed that 1.5 mM $MgSO_4$, 0.33 g/l $FeSO_4$ and 1.41 mM $CuSO_4$ were optimal for the laccase production by Bacillus sp. PK4. This optimization strategy leads to enhancement of laccase production from 2.13 U/ml to 40.79 U/ml. Agro-wastes residues replace the carbon source glucose in the optimized media namely sugarcane bagasse, wheat bran, rice husk, and groundnut shell, among these groundnut shells (117 U/ml) was found to enhance the laccase production significantly. The laccase produced by Bacillus sp. PK4 was found to have the potential to degrade persistent organic pollutant benzo[a]pyrene.

염화주석/camphene 슬러리의 동결건조에 의한 방향성 기공구조의 Sn 다공체 제조 (Synthesis of Aligned Porous Sn by Freeze-Drying of Tin Chloride/camphene Slurry)

  • This paper proposes a novel way of fabricating aligned porous Sn by freeze-drying of camphene slurry with stannic oxide ($SnO_2$) coated Sn powders. The $SnO_2$ coated Sn powders were prepared by surface oxidation of the initial and ball-milled Sn powders, as well as heat treatment of tin chloride coated Cu powders. Camphene slurries with 10 vol% solid powders were prepared by mixing at $50^{\circ}C$ with a small amount of oligomeric polyester dispersant. Freezing the slurry was done in a Teflon cylinder attached to a copper bottom plate cooled at $-25^{\circ}C$. Improved dispersion stability of camphene slurry and the homogeneous frozen body was achieved using the oxidized Sn powder at $670^{\circ}C$ in air after ball milling. The porous Sn specimen, prepared by freeze-drying of the camphene slurry with oxidized Sn powder from the heat-treated Sn/tin chloride mixture and sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in a hydrogen atmosphere, showed large pores of about $200{\mu}m$, which were aligned parallel to the camphene growth direction, and small pores in their internal walls. However, $100{\mu}m$ spherical particles were observed in the bottom part of the specimen due to the melting of the Sn powder during sintering of the green compact.

쑥을 이용한 천연염색에 관한 연구 (The Study on Natural Dyeing with Artemisia)

  • Recently the interest in natural dyeing has been increased because of the color clarity, natural grace and reactionism in fashion. Indigo dyeing, safflower dyeing and Gal-ott in Cheju-Do become generally known, so the study about the natural dyeing is continued with national intrust and support. In this study, 1 used artemisia for various dyeing tests because we can get it easily. 1 tested the dyeability in wool as well as cotton and silk with wormwood in natural dyeing material. I also dyed nylon with the same material for the comparison of the molecular structure. The mercerization and the chitosan treatment were done in cotton to improve the low dyeability in the natural dyeing. The result of this study are as follows; We have to dye repeatedly to get deep color in natural dyeing, and mordant treatment brought good result in color difference and dyeing fastness. 1. Compared with silk, wool and nylon, the dyeability of cotton was the worse. The color difference of cotton was 18.81 without mordants , and 24.05 with mordant. The dyeability of cotton was much increased by mordants such as potassiumdichromate, copper sulfate, iron sulfate and salt water. The color of cotton was turned into yellow-green in potassium dichromate and yellow-green with deep green in copper sulfate. The mercerization and the chitosan treatment of cotton made the improvement in color, dyeability, laundering fastness, abrasion fastness. 2. The color difference of silk was 3 times as high as cotton. It showed the similar degree with the chitosan treated-cotton. That is to say, silk had good dyeability because it contains amino group and carboxyl group. The dyebility of silk was increased by a mordant such as iron sulfate, potassium dichromate and salt water, Drycleaning fastness showed 5 grade, abrasion-fastness was high over 4~5 grade and sunlight fastness showed 1 grade in all case. 3. The color difference of wool was the best among four fabrics because of 18 kinds of amino acids. It is considered that the sulfate of wool has the polarity and help metal- mordants get the better dyeability such as potassium dichromate, iron sulfate, copper sulfate, and aluminum chloride. The color was reddish-green in potassium dichromate, yellow.greenin iron sulfate and copper sulfate, and yellow in the rest mordants. Drycleaning fastness of wool showed over 4~5 grade, abrasion fastness 5 grade. Sunlight-fastness 1 grade. 4. The dyeability of nylon was almost same because of the similar molecular structure with silk. The clarity of color was poor. The color was yellow-green in copper sulfate and yellow in the rest mordants. Laundering fastness and abrasion-fastness of nylon was good. Sunlight- fastness represented 1 grade.

해수중 카드뮴, 구리, 납, 아연 및 수은의 원자흡광정량법 (DETERMINATION OF CADMIUM, COPPER, LEAD, ZINC AND MERCURY IN SEA WATER BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROPHOTOMETRY)

  • 해수중 ppb 정도의 카드뮴, 구리, 납, 아연 및 수은 정량을 위한 용매추출-원자흡광법 및 환원기화법에 의한 무염원자흡광법을 검토했다. 용매추출 때의 최적 pH는 pH4-7였으며 용매로는 MIBK가 가장 효율이 좋았으며 킬레이트제로는 DDTC가 APDC보다 추출율 및 기타 조건이 유리했다. 즉 $1\iota$ 해수를 사용하여 pH4-5에서 DDTC-MIBK로 추출하여 아세칠렌-공기불꽃 중에 흡입시켜 흡광도를 측정하는 방법으로 해수시료를 분석한 결과 정밀저는 표준편차로 카드뮴 0.058 ppb, 구리 0.084 ppb, 납 0.44ppb였다, 아연은 $1\iota$ 시수를 사용했을 때는 블랭크값이 녀무 크게 나오고 그 정밀도가 극히 좋지 않았다. 시수량을 200ml로 했을 때는 비교적 정밀도가 좋았으며 표준편차로서 2.49 ppb였다. 수은은 시수 500ml을 황산-과망간산칼리움 분해법으로 분해시켜 염화제1주석으로 수은을 환원기화시켜 흡광도를 측정했으며 그 정밀도는 0.005 ppb였다. 이상의 방법으로 측정할 수 있는 각 금속의 정량감도는 카드뮴 $0.08\;ppb/\%$, 구리$0.15\;ppb/1\% $, 납 $0.6\;ppb/1\%$, 아연 $1.2\;ppb/1\%$, 수은 $0.01\;ppb/1\%$였다. 채수후 분석시까지의 시수보관에 따른 각 금속의 농도변화는 시수$1\iota$에 대해 질산 10ml 정도 넣어 pH 1.5 부근으로 하며 플리에칠렌병에서 보관한 결과 카드뮴, 구리, 납, 수은은 30일정도 까지는 안정하였으며 아연은 불규칙한 심한 변동을 보였다.

두부(豆腐)비지 산(酸) 가수분해물(加水分解物)로 조제(調製)한 목재방부제(木材防腐劑)에서 산(酸) 농도(濃度)와 구리/붕소계(硼素系) 염(鹽) 첨가(添加)에 따른 방부능(防腐能)의 영향(影響) (Effects of Acid Concentration and the Addition of Copper/Boron Salts on the Efficacy of Okara-based Wood Preservatives)

  • 두부비지를 이용한 친환경적인 목재방부제를 조제하고, 두부비지 가수분해에 사용하는 산의 농도 및 염의 구성에 따른 방부능의 영향을 조사하는 실험을 수행하였다. 두부비지 방부제는 $25^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 동안 0, 1%, 그리고 2% 황산에 의해 가수분해된 두부비지와 염화구리 또는/그리고 붕산나트륨으로 조제되었고, 목재시편 내에 감가압법으로 주입하여 주입된 시편을 $70^{\circ}C$ 열수에서 72시간 동안의 용탈실험을 거친 후, 갈색부후균 Trametes palustris 및 백색부후균 Tyromyces versicolor에 대한 내후성을 조사하였다. 실험결과 두부비지를 가수분해한 산의 농도가 높아짐에 따라 방부제의 주입능과 내후성이 증가하였고, 용탈성은 감소하였다. 두부비지산 가수분해물/구리염 또는 두부비지 산 가수분해물/구리염/붕소염으로 처리된 목재시편은 T. palustris 및 T. versicolor에 대한 우수한 방부효능을 보였으나, 두부비지 산 가수분해물/붕소염 또는 두부비지가 포함되지 않은 방부제로 처리된 목재시편은 T. palustris에 의한 부후가 관찰되었다. 상기 결과를 토대로 1% 황산에 의해 가수분해한 두부비지, 염화구리 그리고 붕산나트륨으로 조제한 목재방부제가 두부비지를 이용한 목재방부제 조제의 최적 조건으로 평가되었다.

동록(염화동) 안료의 제조방법 및 특성에 관한 연구 (Manufacturing Method and Characteristics of the Dongrok(copper chloride) pigments)

  • 하엽은 짙은 녹색을 띠는 전통 안료 중 하나로 알려져 있지만 색상, 원료물질, 제법 등에 대해서 명확히 규명되지 않은 상태이다. 다만, 단청, 괘불, 회화 등 채색문화유산의 안료 분석연구를 통해 밝혀진 하엽 안료의 입자형태나 구성광물 등을 볼 때 염 부식으로 제조된 동록 안료로 보인다. 따라서 하엽 안료를 복원하기 위해 고문헌 기록을 바탕으로 동록 안료의 제조방법을 연구하였다. 고문헌 기록에서 확인되는 동록 안료의 제조방법은 동분말과 부식제를 혼합한 후 습한 조건에서 방치하여 부식시키는 자연 부식방법이다. 이를 바탕으로 보다 효율적으로 동분말을 부식시키기 위해 부식시험기를 이용한 인공부식을 도입하였고, 부식제 혼합비율, 부식 기간에 따른 부식생성물의 상태를 분석하여 적정 혼합비율과 부식 기간을 선정하였다. 또한, 잔류 부식제를 제거하기 위한 염 제거 공정과 안료 채색 시 채도를 높이기 위한 정제공정을 추가하여 동록 안료의 제조방법을 체계적으로 정립하였다. 정립된 방법으로 제조된 동록 안료는 청록 혹은 녹색의 색상을 나타냈다. 안료 입자는 표면이 다공성으로 타원형 형태의 작은 입자들이 뭉쳐져 있는 형태를 보였다. 주요 구성원소는 구리(Cu)와 염소(Cl)이고, 구성광물은 녹염동광[atacamite, Cu2Cl(OH)3]으로 동정되었다. 제조된 동록 안료의 안정성 평가를 위해 촉진내후성 시험을 진행한 결과, 열화가 진행됨에 따라 녹색도가 일부 감소하고 황색도가 증가하는 색변화 경향을 보였다. 따라서 열화 전 동록 안료의 색도는 고단청의 하엽 안료와 비교할 때 황색도가 낮은 편이었으나 열화 후에는 황색도가 크게 증가하여 고단청의 하엽 안료와 유사한 색도 범위를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 제조된 동록 안료는 입자형태나 구성광물뿐만 아니라 색상에서도 고단청의 하엽 안료를 구현하여 재현성이 높은 것으로 확인되었다.
