An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of dietary copper (Cu) on performance, carcass characteristics and lipid metabolism in lambs. Fifty DorperMongolia wether lambs (approximately 3 month of age; 23.80.6 kg of body weight) were housed in individual pens and were assigned randomly to one of five treatments. Treatments consisted of 1) control (no supplemental Cu), 2) 10 mg Cu/kg DM from Cu-lysine, 3) 20 mg Cu/kg DM from Cu-lysine, 4) 10 mg Cu/kg DM from tribasic copper chloride (Cu2(OH)3Cl; TBCC), 5) 20 mg Cu/kg DM from tribasic copper chloride. The Cu concentration was 6.74 mg/kg DM in the basal diet. Body weight was measured on two consecutive days at the start and the end of the 60-day experimental period. Blood samples were collected and then the lambs were slaughtered on d 60. Performance was not affected (p>0.05) by dietary Cu treatment. Cu-supplemented and control lambs had similar hot carcass weight, dressing percentage and longissimus muscle area, but Cu supplementation, regardless of source and level, reduced (p<0.01) 12th rib backfat and kidney fat in lambs. Plasma tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-) and serum triglyceride concentrations were increased (p<0.05), total cholesterol concentrations were decreased (p<0.05) and nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) concentrations tended to be increased (p<0.07) by Cu supplementation. However, Serum concentrations of HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were not affected (p>0.05) by dietary treatment. Fatty acid profile of longissimus muscle was similar across treatments. These results indicate that Cu-lysine and TBCC are of similar availability in lambs. Cu supplementation given to DorperMongolia wether lambs altered lipid metabolism. The reduction in backfat depth may be due to copper altering TNF- metabolism in lambs. Supplementation of 10 or 20 mg Cu/kg DM showed similar effects on lipid metabolism in lambs.

Long-bone examination is mainly used for inspection of the lower extremities. Recently, a long length detector (FXRD-1751S, VIEWORKS, Korea) with three digital detectors attached has been developed. High energy X-rays are used because pelvic areas require high image quality. In this case, X-rays are transmitted a lot in thin areas such as an ankle, and it is not suitable for diagnosing an image. Therefore, this study use copper filters made with 3D printers to increase image quality in the Long-bone inspection. A copper filter was manufactured in consideration of the overall thickness of the lower part. The experiment was conducted in anterior-posterior (AP) and lateral (LAT) positions, depending on the presence or absence of the filter. 5x5 pixels of region of interest (ROI) were selected from the pelvis, knee, and ankle areas. X-rays were irradiated under the conditions of 70 kVp and 40 mAs for AP, 80 kVp, and 63 mAs for lat when without filters, 90 kVp and 80 mAs for AP, 90 kVp and 100 mAs for lat when with filters. signal to noise ratio(SNR) ratio and contrast to noise (CNR) values were measured 1106.38, 14.34 before applying the filter and 1189.32, 70.43 after the filter. For the knee area, 650.44, 97.61 before applying the filter, and 1013.17, 444.24 after applying the filter. For the ankle area, 206.65, 23.68 before applying the filter and 993.50, 136.11 after applying the filter. In the Long-bone examination, SNR and CNR were greatly measured when the filter was applied, confirmed the availability of using the copper additional filter.
An experiment on movements of copper in soils was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of several soil extractants in predicting to be possibly the plant availability of copper in soils. Soil samples were taken six, from Las Virgines loam that the samples naturally included high contents of heavy metals near Los Angeles, Greenfield sandy loam and IDomino Loam that received 22.5, and $45.0mg.\;ha^{-1},\;yr^{-1}$ of composted sludge from Los Angeles from 1975 to 1983, respectively. Copper in soils were extracted with $4M\;HNO_3$, 0.1M HCl, 0.5M DTPA-0.1M TEA, 0.5M EDTA-0.1M $Ca(NO_3)_2$, and 1M ammonium acetate(pH 7), and analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The results were as follows: 1. The total copper contents in soil that received $45.0mg.\;ha^{-1},\;yr^{-1}$ of composted sludge were higher than that received $22.5mg.\;ha^{-1}.yr^{-1}$, regardless of soil samples. 2. The ratios of extractable copper contents with EDTA, DTPA, 0.1M HCl and 1M ammonium acetate to total copper contents extracted with 4M $HNO_3$ of long-term sludge applications were larger than those of natural, sludge-nontreated soils. 3. Statistically significant increase in total copper contents was found in the increasing values of multipling CEC, or OM% by R, ratio of extractable copper contents to those by 4M $HNO_3$ extraction as total copper contents in soils.

A method and results of classification of 4 types metallic wear debris were presented by using their color features. The color image of wear debris was used (or the initial data, and the color properties of the debris were specified by HSI color model. Particle was characterized by a set of statistical features derived from the distribution of HSI color model components. The initial feature set was optimized by a principal component analysis, and multidimensional scaling procedure was used for the definition of classification plane. It was found that five features, which include mean values of H and S, median S, skewness of distribution of S and I, allow to distinguish copper based alloys, red and dark iron oxides and steel particles. In this work, a method of probabilistic decision-making of class label assignment was proposed, which was based on the analysis of debris-coordinates distribution in the classification plane. The obtained results demonstrated a good availability for the automated wear particle analysis.

An experiment was conducted to study the effects of the dietary Cu sources on the performance of the weanling pigs. Forty-eight, 24 in each sex, 4 weeks old pigs were assigned to four treatments; control, methionine-Cu chelate, chitosan-Cu chelate or yeast-Cu chelate. Control diet contained 136ppm Cu to which additional 100ppm Cu in different chelated form was added to the respective treatment. Individual pig weight and feed intake of each pen were recorded weekly for 5 weeks. Average daily feed intakes(ADFI), average daily gains(ADG) and ADFI/ADG were not significantly different among treatments. Nutrient availability was not also significantly affected by treatments. Serum triglyceride concentration of chitosan-Cu treatment was significantly lower than those of methionine-Cu and yeast-Cu treatments but was not significantly different from that of the control. Serum cholesterol concentration of yeast-Cu was significantly lower than those of the control and methionine-Cu but was not significantly different from that of chitosan-Cu treatment. Serum HDL-cholesterol concentration was not significantly affected by treatments. Serum IgG concentrations of all copper treatments were significantly lower than that of the control. It was concluded that Cu-chelates supplemented to the basal diet (136ppm Cu) by the level of 100ppm Cu did not significantly affect growth performance of weaning pigs. However, serum parameters of cholesterol, cholesterol and IgG were significantly affected by the treatments.
The effect of lime on plant availability of heavy metals in soils amended with industrial sewage sludge (ISS) or pig manure compost (PMC) was investigated. A pot experiment with Altari radish (Raphanus sativus) was conducted. Industrial sewage sludge and Pig manure compost were added at 25 and 50 Mg/ha, and lime was added at 3 Mg/ha. Heavy metal contents of ISS treated soils after experiment were higher than those in control (NPK plot) and PMC treatment. Specially, the contents of copper, zinc, nickel and chromium in the 50 Mg/ha of ISS treated soils were higher 12$\sim$48 times than those in control. Copper, zinc, and nickel contents in Altari radish leaves cultivated at the ISS treated soil exceeded the critical levels of plant toxicity. Copper, zinc, and nickel contents in Altari radish loaves and roots cultivated at the ISS treated soil were reduced by the addition of lime. Copper, zinc, and nickel contents in Altari radish loaves were negatively correlated with soil pH after experiment. It concluded that liming would reduce the uptake of heavy metals by plants and be a temporary method of reclamation at the highly heavy metal accumulated soils by ISS.

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of electromagnetic pulse shielding in cast-in-place protective shelters using corrugated metal-plates, and then reviews their usability for the Republic of Korea Army. The Korea Corps of Engineering has evaluated corrugated metal-plates as a construction material for cast-in-place structures, which have to defend against mechanical impacts as well as electromagnetic pulses. Corrugated metal-plate is known as a superb mechanical protective material, so much so that it has been employed in ammunition magazines and artillery platforms in the armed forces. Moreover, as a metal, such as steel and copper, it is universally recognized as one of the most effective electromagnetic pulse shielding materials. In addition to effectively shielding from electromagnetic pulses and protecting against mechanical impacts, corrugated metal-plates should prove to be an appropriate construction material for the cast-in-place protective shelter in terms of construction availability and economic feasibility. The shielding effectiveness of the suggested structures is examined based on MIL-STD 188-125-1. A few frequency bands need an increase of 15~30dB in shielding effectiveness because of unbidden apertures caused by flaws associated with welding, assembling, and material deformation. However, allowing for the approximately 40dB of shielding provided by soil; the examined structure, which is buried underground, can offset its shortcomings sufficiently.

To test the hypothesis that humic acid (HA), anaerobically digested pig slurry filtrate (APS), and their combination would differently affect the chemical speciation and extractability of metals (cadmium, copper, and zinc) and their uptake by plants, we conducted a pot experiment using wormwood in two texturally contrasting soils (sandy loam and clay loam) collected from a field near an abandoned Cu mine. Four treatments were laid out: HA at $ 23.5g\;kg^{-1}$ (HA), APS at $330mL\;kg^{-1}$ (APS), HA at $ 23.5g\;kg^{-1}$ and APS at $330mL\;kg^{-1}$ (HA + APS), and a control. Each treatment affected the chemical speciation and mobility of the metals, and thereby resulting in variable patterns of plant biomass yield and metal uptake. The APS supported plant growth by increasing nutrient availability. HA supported or hindered plant growth by impacting the soil's water and nutrient retention capacity and aeration, in a soil texture-dependent manner, while consistently enhancing the immobilization of heavy metals. Temporal increases in whole-plant dry matter yield and metal accumulation suggested that the plants were capable of metal hyperaccumulation. The results were discussed in terms of the mobility of metals and plant growth and corroborated by the $^{15}N$ recovery of soil- and plant-N pools under H and HS treatments. Therefore, for effective phytoremediation of polluted soils, an appropriate combination of plant growth promoters (APS) and chelating agents (HA) should be predetermined at the site where chemical stabilization of pollutants is desired.

This study was conducted to evaluate the trace elemental nutritive values of soil and forages collected from southwestern part of the province of Punjab, Pakistan. Soil and forage samples were collected fortnightly for two seasons. The concentrations of some trace minerals varied greatly among seasons and sampling periods. Seasonal effects were found in all soil micro-minerals except zinc, while forage iron, zinc, and selenium were affected by seasonal changes. Sampling periods effects were observed in all soil minerals and in forage copper, iron, zinc, and manganese only. All soil mineral levels except cobalt and selenium were sufficiently high to meet the requirements of plants for normal growth during both seasons. In contrast, soil Co and Se levels were severely deficient during both seasons and considered inadequate for plant growth. Soil Fe, Zn, Co, and Se levels were higher, and Cu and Mn lower during winter than those during summer. Forage Zn levels during summer were at marginal deficient levels, and in contrast, all other forage micro-minerals were within the required range for ruminants during both seasons. Although forage mico-minerals were within the range required by the ruminants, they were not sufficiently high to prevent the predisposition to various diseases caused by nutrient deficiency. Consequently, grazing animals at this location need continued mineral supplementation of these elements with a mixtures of high bio-availability rather than of high micro-mineral contents to support optimum ruminant productivity.
