The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors of college adjustment in nursing students. A quantitative descriptive design was used to study 400 nursing students in Busan and Ulsan, recruited from May 1 to 30, 2011. The instruments used were the clinical stress scale, stress coping scale and college adjustment problem checklist. The data were analysed SPSS program, using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and simultaneous multiple regression. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows; First, the average of clinical stress was 3.68 points, the problem-solving coping was 2.85 points, the emotional-focused coping was 2.48 points, and college adjustment was 3.03 points. Second, The correlation of the clinical stress and college adjustment relations showed negative correlation in all areas. The correlation of problem-solving and emotional-focused coping and college adjustment showed positive correlation. Third, The significant predictors of college adjustment were satisfaction in major, psychological factors, problem-solving coping, perceived health status, emotional-focused coping, knowledge, skills, assignment/reports. These variables showed explanatory power of 43.2%. The study suggested to help reduce clinical stress and to strengthen problem-solving coping for college adjustment in nursing students.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify the level of total symptom distress, uncertainty, depression and ways of coping in women with endometriosis based on Mishel's model of Uncertainty in Chronic illness, and to exam the relationships among symptom distress, depression and ways of coping and the mediating effect of ways of coping between uncertainty and depression. Method: The research was used for correlational research design and data were collected with 123 women with endometriosis who live in a local area by convenience sampling. Results: The finding showed that the levels of symptom distress and uncertainty were moderate and the depression was above the middle level. There were positive relationships among symptom distress, uncertainty and depression but a negative relationship between problem focused coping and depression. The significant predictors for depression were symptom distress, uncertainty, and problem focused coping with 40% of explained variance. Problem focused coping showed mediating effect between uncertainty and depression. Conclusion: Therefore, nursing intervention for the strategy of increasing problem focused coping as well as lowering uncertainty and depression is recommended. Further study is needed to conduct a repetitive study with randomized nationwide population and to evaluate the theory with different outcomes for adaptation versus maladaptation.
Purpose: This study was done to investigate the correlation of uncertainty, coping and health-promoting behavior in patients with gastric cancer who have undergone a gastrectomy. Methods: A descriptive correlational design was used and the participants were 120 gastric cancer patients from one general hospital. The structured questionnaire included Mishle's Uncertainty in Illness Scale, the Korean Cancer Coping Questionnaire, and the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: There were significant negative correlations between uncertainty and intrapersonal coping (r=-.657, p<.001); between uncertainty and interpersonal coping (r=-.223, p=.014); and between uncertainty and health promoting behavior (r=-.594, p<.001). There were significant positive correlations between intrapersonal coping and health promoting behavior (r=.790, p<.001); and between interpersonal coping and health promoting behavior (r=.502, p<.001). Uncertainty, intrapersonal coping, and interpersonal coping explained 49% of health promoting behavior (F=21.312, p<.001). The factors that influenced health promoting behavior were intrapersonal coping (${\beta}=.582$, p<.001), and interpersonal coping (${\beta}=.246$, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that intrapersonal coping and interpersonal coping were significant variables for health promoting behavior in patients with gastric cancer who had undergone a gastrectomy in the past six months.
Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the degree of stress and health promotion behavior, coping style and their relationship of university students. Methods: With a descriptive survey design, a self-report study was conducted and collected 174 responses from university students in Chungcheongnam-do. Descriptive statistics, and pearson's correlation were used to analyze data. Results: The mean score of stress was $63.1{\pm}15$. The relationship between health promotion behavior and coping style significantly correlated. Conclusion: This study also shows that coping style significantly correlated with walking day for more than 10 minutes, dietary practice guidelines score. Therefore, consideration of stress and coping style should be included in the development of a health promotion program for university students.
The relationships among self efficacy, depression and coping with cancer were examined in 194 outpatients who had received a diagnosis of cancer. The sample for this descriptive correlational study consisted of people who were at least 19 years old and had been treated for cancer at 6 hospital in Seoul. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire. The results of this study are as follows: 1. People who attributed cancer to heredity/family showed the highest mean score of self efficacy. People who attributed cancer to smoking showed the highest mean score of depression. and coping. 2. There were significant differences between causal attribution and depression and between causal attribution and coping. 3. There was a negative correlation between self-efficacy and depression(r=-.301, p= .000), whereas there was a positive correlation between self-efficacy and coping (r=.195, 0=.006). Finally, it is evident that identifying clear perceived causes, self-efficacy, depression and coping in patients with cancer continues to challenge researchers. Based upon this study, it is recommended that future research have a longitudinal design that allows for the identification of changes in perception, emotion and coping and, possibly, different relationships over time.

Purpose: This descriptive correlation study was done to identify the hardiness, coping behavior, and organizational commitment of general hospital employees and show how these variables affect increases in role performance and problem solving ability to have a positive influence on organizational harmony. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive research design was used with a sample of 368 employees working in general hospitals in M and C cities. A survey was used to collect the data. Results: The score for perception of hardiness of general hospital employees was 2.85, and coping behavior was 2.40, both out of a possible 4 points, and organizational commitment, 3.03 out of a possible 5 points. There were statistically significant positive correlations between hardiness and coping behavior (r=.33, p<.001), also between hardiness and organizational commitment (r=.51, p<.001), and also between coping behavior and organizational commitment (r=.22, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that hardiness, coping behavior, and organizational commitment in general hospital employees have positive correlations, and thus hospital administrators should explore ways of increase individual employee hardiness and coping behavior, and make efforts to harmonize their organizations by enhancing organizational commitment.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a socioculturally-appropriate psychosocial intervention program for Korean patients with breast cancer and test its effects on stress, anxiety, depression, and coping strategies. Methods: One group pretest and posttest design was used to test the effects of the intervention. A post-intervention interview was conducted to refine the nature of the intervention. A convenience sample of 10 breast cancer survivors was recruited from the outpatients clinics. Psychosocial intervention was developed to provide the health education, stress management, coping skill training and support weekly(90min) for 6 weeks. Results: There was a significant decrease in stress scores following the intervention(Z= -2.388, p=0.017). However, no significant changes were noted in the use of problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies, nor in the changes of anxiety and depression levels. Content analysis of interview data revealed six clusters; changes in perception, changes in problem solving approaches, changes in anger management, changes in life pattern, social support and reduction of perceived stress. Conclusions: Based on quantitative and qualitative data, we recommend the refinements of the intervention in the following areas for future studies: 1) duration, activities, and progression of psychosocial intervention; 2) research design and sample size; and 3) measurements.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect on the fracture strength and color of ceramic by the design of the metal coping in ceramo metal crown. In this study, four types of ceramic crowns were made for fracture strength : standard ceramo metal crown, collariess ceramo metal crown, modified ceramo metal crown, and ceramic jacket crown. And three types of disk formed-specimens were made to compare the dentin shade owing to aluminous opaque powder and palladium alloy. Fracture strength was measured by universal testing machine(Instron Co. Ltd., U.S.A) and color was measured by color and color difference meter(Yasuda Seiki Seisakusho, Ltd., Japan). The results were as follows : 1. The fracture strength of ceramic was affected significantly by the design of metal coping in ceramo metal crown. The mean fracture strength(192.0 Kg) of standard ceramo metal crown was about 1.7 times higher than that(111.5 Kg) of collarless ceramo metal crown, and about 2.8 times higher than that(67.8 Kg) of ceramic jacket crown. 2. Modified ceramo metal crown that has metal band in the labio cervical had the lowest fracture strength. 3. Lightness, yellowness and redness of the dentin fired were decreased by the metal coping.

The purpose of this study was to investigate factors associated with coping responses in Korean public high school students. Methods: This study employed a descriptive survey research design. The sample included 263 high school students who responded to a self-report questionnaire. Variables included socio-demographic characteristics, health-related characteristics, academic stress, somatization symptoms, social support, and coping responses. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and multiple regressions. Results: Participants, regarding their school life, reported moderate levels of academic stress ($M{\pm}SD=2.3{\pm}0.52$) and somatization symptoms ($M{\pm}SD=2.3{\pm}0.71$), and a relatively high level of social support ($M{\pm}SD=4.2{\pm}0.67$). All the variables were associated with the use of multiple coping responses. Active-cognitive coping ($M{\pm}SD=2.9{\pm}0.68$) was most frequently used, followed by active-behavioral coping ($M{\pm}SD=2.5{\pm}0.56$). and avoidant coping ($M{\pm}SD=2.3{\pm}0.75$). Significant relationships were found among the measured variables: positive relation between academic stress and somatization symptoms, but, negative between academic stress and both somatization symptoms and social support. Students who had higher stress and more somatization symptoms were more likely to use avoidant coping than the others. In multiple regression analysis, while factors associated with each coping response differed, gender appeared to be a significant factor in all methods. Variables included in the final model explained 27% of the variance in avoidant coping (F=11.40, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on the study results, schools should provide tailored educational programs to help high school students reduce multisource stress and somatization symptoms at school and cope with them in more active and effective ways.
This study was designed to find the characteristics and patterns in subjectivity of the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. Q-methodology was used as a research design and the research procedures were as follows. Q-sampling has been derived from the literature review and a questionnaire. Its credibility and validity were also tested by nursing professors. Total of 34 statements were selected. P-sampling has been drawn and 51 samples were selected. Based on 9 point scale, the selected respondents rated their operant definition on the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. The results of above procedures were analyzed by PCQ program. The perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student were analyzed based on the typical array, extreme comments, and the demographic information of study subjects. The results revealed that there were three types of the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. The three types were named as follows; 1) The first type, agree of positive change by oneself perspectives, was consisted of 18 subjects. They thought that they did their best positive change for the most effective coping strategies about practical stress. 2) The second type, agree of social support perspectives, was consisted of 13 subjects. They thought that they asked for an other person's help for the most effective coping strategies about practical stress. 3) The third type, agree of looking on avoidance perspectives, was consisted of 5 subjects. They thought that they looked on or avoided problems for the most effective coping strategies about practical stress. As a result, this study discovered three types of the degree of the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. By identifying the nature of each of three types, this study can be useful to develop efficient coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student.
