  • KEPCO proposes enhanced voltage management system that is a coordinate voltage control system between the hierarchical voltage control system and the slow voltage control system. It has been installing in Jeju island. VMS consists of a master controller, CVC (Continuous Voltage Controller) and DVC (Discrete Voltage Controller). CVC consists of main controller, FDMU (Field Data Measurement Unit) and several RPDs (Reactive Power Dispatcher). CVC has a control scheme with AVRs of generator to maintain the voltage of a pilot bus in a power system, DVC has a control scheme with static reactive power sources, like a shunt capacitor, a shunt reactor, ULTC and so on, to maintain the reactive power reserve of a power system and a master controller is executed to recover reactive power margin of a power system through coordinated control between CVC and DVC.

Supervisory Control of a Face Milling Operation in different Manufacturing Environments

  • The promise of improved productivity and quality has lead to numerous research investigations in machining process monitoring and control. Recent studies have demonstrated that careful attention must be paid to the regulation of multiple process modules within a single operation such that each module performs its function properly and adverse interactions between modules do not occur. This had lead to the development of supervisory control; particularly to the development of methodologies to systemati-cally construct and implement these controllers. However, no research study has investigated the effect of the production environ-ment on the design of supervisor controllers. In this paper, the design of supervisory controllers for various production environ-ment is studied. The design approach given in Landers and Ulsoy(1998) is applied to construct two supervisory machining control-lers that are experimentally implemented in a face milling operation. Comparisons with an experimental implementation without process control illustrate the benefits of utilizing process controllers that are coordinated properly. The results also show that the given design approach may be used to construct supervisory controllers for different types of production environments.

Particle swarm optimization-based receding horizon formation control of multi-agent surface vehicles

  • This paper proposes a novel receding horizon control (RHC) algorithm for formation control of a swarm of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) using particle swarm optimization (PSO). The proposed control algorithm provides the coordinated path tracking of multi-agent USVs while preventing collisions and considering external disturbances such as ocean currents. A three degrees-of-freedom kinematic model of the USV is used for the RHC with guaranteed stability and convergence by incorporating a sequential Monte Carlo (SMC)-based particle initialization. An ocean current model-based estimator is designed to compensate for the effect of ocean currents on the USVs. This method is compared with the PSO-based RHC algorithms to demonstrate the performance of the formation control and the collision avoidance in the presence of ocean currents through numerical simulations.

Strategy based PSO for Dynamic Control of UPFC to Enhance Power System Security

  • Penetration and installation of a new dynamic technology known as Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) in a practical and dynamic network requires and force expert engineer to develop robust and flexible strategy for planning and control. Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is one of the recent and effective FACTS devices designed for multi control operation to enhance the power system security. This paper presents a dynamic strategy based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for optimal parameters setting of UPFC to enhance the system loadability. Firstly, we perform a multi power flow analysis with load incrementation to construct a global database to determine the initial efficient bounds associated to active power and reactive power target vector. Secondly a PSO technique applied to search the new parameters setting of the UPFC within the initial new active power and reactive power target bounds. The proposed approach is implemented with Matlab program and verified with IEEE 30-Bus test network. The results show that the proposed approach can converge to the near optimum solution with accuracy, and confirm that flexible multi-control of this device coordinated with efficient location enhance the system security of power system by eliminating the overloaded lines and the bus voltage violation.

연속 시적분 (CTI) 기반 풍력발전단지 시모의 해석 (Continuation Time Integration (CTI)-Based Time Domain Simulation Analysis for Wind Farms)

  • As a result of increasing environmental concern, the penetration of renewable power on power systems is now increasing. Wind energy can be considered as the most economical energy sources to generate electricity without depletion of fossil fuel. To devise adequate control strategies for wind farm, time domain simulation analysis needs to be performed. This presents a continuation time integration (CTI)-based time domain simulation algorithm for wind farm with doubly fed asynchronous generator (DFAG) connected to the external power systems. This paper depicts how to time trajectories are traced using CTI-based time domain simulation. Also this paper describes the possibilities of hierachical control for wind farm output limitation, and the coordinated control has been designed by hierarchical control structured from central control level to wind farm control board and to an individual wind turbine level. Finally it shows an illustrative example of time domain simulation result with two test systems through case study.

  • Recently, complicated and dexterous tasks with two or more arms are needed in ninny robot manipulator applications which can not be accomplished with one manipulator. In general, when two arms manipulate an object, tile dynamics of the arms and the object should be considered simultaneously. In order to control the force of tile arms, we can use various control schemes based upon dynamic modeling. But, there are difficulties in solving inverse dynamics equations, and the environment where a manipulator performs various tasks is usually unknown, and we can not describe a model precisely, for instances, the effect of the joint flexibility, and the friction between the arm and the object. Therefore, in this paper, we suggest a new force control method employing fuzzy inference without solving dynamic equations. Fuzzy inference rules and parameters are designed and adjusted with the automatic fuzzy modeling method using the Hough transform and gradient descent method.

  • The soccer robot system consists of multi agents, with highly coordinated operation and movements so as to fulfill specific objectives, even under adverse situation. The coordination of the multi-agents is associated with a lot of supplementary work in advance. The associated issues are the position correction, prevention of communication congestion, local information sensing in addition to the need for imitating the human-like decision making. A control structure for soccer robot is designed and several behaviors and actions for a soccer robot are proposed. Variable zone defense as a basic strategy and several special strategies for fouls are applied to SOTY2 team.

  • In this paper, a new fault detection and isolation algorithm fur inertial sensor system is proposed. To identify the inertial sensor fault, single antenna GPS receiver is used as an effective redundancy source. To use GPS receiver as redundancy for the inertial sensors, the algorithm to estimate the attitude and acceleration using single antenna GPS receiver is adopted. By using Doppler shift of carrier phase signal and kinetic characteristics of aircraft, attitude information of aircraft can be obtained at the coordinated flight condition. Based on this idea, fault diagnosis algorithm for inertial sensors using single antenna GPS based attitude is proposed. For more effective FDI, decision variables considering the aircraft maneuver are proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through the numerical simulations.

  • A competitive automated manufacturing system integrates the various control processes and data used in service of products. design, manufacturing, and, sale. CIM is a way to achieve such integration through computers and computational techniques in manufacturing, planning, and design. Developing effective CIM architectures is hampered by integration problems. The key to resolving these problems lies in a better understanding of manufacturing function and how it is related to other manufacturing functions. Integration of CIM environment requires coordinated solutions to data management problems for individual application system as well as for exchange of data between these applications. This requires a common framework for data management throughout the CIM environment. This paper discusses the design paradigm as a framework for this purpose. Designing an organizational structure to meet those goals invloves 1) analyzing the functions through functional decomposition, 2) developing a data model to coordinate functions. As a result, we propose an object-oriented design methodology for manufacturing information system.

  • This paper presents a control system design for the STATCON of FACTS devices by LQR, LQG control scheme to enhance small-signal stability in the power system, the feature of this FACTS controller is coordinated with generator exciter controller(AVR, PSS) to improve the total power system stability and performance.
