  • Performance of a liquid rocket thrust chamber with regenerative cooling scheme has been numerically analyzed using in-house CFD code which can predict combustion/cooling performance and provide nozzle design parameters. This paper investigates trade-offs between combustion and cooling performance with varying amount of fuel directly injected into the chamber wall to form cooling films. Also is analyzed the effect of varying mixture ratios for the peripheral injectors on combustion performance enhancement. Further efforts to verify/improve the simulation methodology including comparison with the firing test results are planned to make it a reliable tool to optimize the film cooling and other major design parameters.

  • Cooling tower design procedure was set up using conventional Merkel theory, The design data could be different depending on the characteristic curve that the engineer chose. It reveals that the consistent and reasonable criteria are required based on the exact information of the cooling tower Performance. In this study, an off-design performance analysis program for a counterflow-type cooling tower was developed and verified by comparing with experimental data. Also, the off-design performance with various operating conditions was analyzed.

  • A small-scale thermoelectric cooling system was built in an effort to enhance the performance of the refrigeration system by utilizing the water-cooled jacket which was attached to the hot side of the thermoelectric module. Considered design parameters for the water-cooled jacket were the geometry of the flow passage inside the jacket and the flow rate of cooling water. The higher flow rate of cooling water in the jacket resulted in a better performance of the refrigeration system. The increase in the number of channels for water flow passage inside the cooling jacket also showed significant improvement on the performance of the thermoelectric cooling system such as the cooling capacity and the COP of the refrigeration system.

  • In this paper, the performance analysis is experimentally carried out in order to select the best cooling fan and shroud considering both cooling performance and noise reduction. 4 cooling fans have been tested in the fan tester and the real excavator. In order to obtain the performance of the cooling fans, flow capacity has been estimated by measuring flow velocity using a hot wire anemometer, and noise radiation has been also measured to estimate the fan noise. Characteristics of a box-type and a streamlined shroud have been examined by changing the immersion depth of cooling fans. Based upon the results, the best cooling fan is selected. Finally, the criterion to select the best cooling fan has been set up.

  • In general, an absorption chiller or heat pump is operated under the constant cooling water flow rate condition even though the system works with a partial load. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of the cooling water flow rates and the temperature of cooling water on the system performance to find the energy saving methode for the partial load operation of the double effect $H_2O$/LiBr absorption chiller. It is found that the performance of the system is sensitive to the temperature of cooling water than the cooling water flow rate, so the decrease of the performance due to reducing the cooling water flow rate can be overcome with the reduction of the cooling water temperature by 1$^{\circ}C$. The flow rate of the cooling water flow rate ranges from 50% to 100% of the flow rate at normal conditions with a partial load. It is also found that the operation cost of the cooling water pump and the cooling tower can be reduced by 23%.

  • The thermal environmental chamber has been using in maintaining weather condition keeping thermal capacity under heating and cooling load fluctuation and for the performance testing of cooling system or air-conditioner on artificial envi-ronment. In ordder to make the various environmental conditions in the thermal environmental chamber the proper cooling system is necessary to eliminate the heating load produced inside the chamber and to maintain the designed environmental condition. For this reason the optimal design of cooling system and the prediction of performance is also required. This paper describes the prediction of performance of cooling system in the thermal environmental chamber with the capacity of 37,000kcal/hr which is developed for the test of performance in heating mode of heat pump system, In the results this paper is trying to develop simulation program on the base of mathematical models and which can be applied effectively to the optimal design of cooling system and prediction of performance to the inside and outside change of envi-ronmetal load.

  • An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the effects of the combination of the different wire mesh number in a regenerator and the tube number in a cooler on the cooling performance of a Vuilleumier cycle heat pump. Effects of operating conditions, such as charging pressure, operating speed, and heat input, on the cooling performance are also studied. The experimental results obtained indicate that the cooling performance could be improved with the proper combination of different wire meshes in a regenerator. More tubes in a cooler are desirable for better cooling performance. It is also found that the cooling capacity is enhanced, whereas COP is reduced with an increase in the heater tube temperature and the revolution speed. Both the cooling capacity and COP are incereased with a higher charging pressure.

  • In order to protect the turbine blade from working fluid of high temperature, many cooling techniques such as internal convection cooling, film cooling, impinging jet cooling and thermal barrier coating have been developed. With all other things, film-cooling has been widely used as the important alternative. In the present work, numerical analysis has been performed to investigate and to compare the film-cooling performance of various film-cooling hole schemes such as cylindrical, crescent, louver, and dumbbell holes. To analyze the turbulent flow and the film-cooling mechanism, three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis has been performed with shear stress transport turbulence model. The validation of numerical results has been assessed in comparison with experimental data. The characteristics of fluid flow and the film-cooling performance for each shaped hole have been investigated and evaluated in terms of centerline, laterally averaged and spatially averaged film-cooling effectivenesses. Among the film cooling holes, the dumbbell shaped hole shows better film-cooling effectiveness than the other shaped holes. And the louver and cylindrical shaped hole show the worst film cooling performance, and concentrated flows on near the centerline only.

  • Thermoelectric module is a device that can produce cooling in a direct manner using the electrical energy. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of thermoelectric module and cooling system equipped with the thermoelectric module. The performance of a thermoelectric module is estimated using two methods; theoretical analysis based on one-dimensional energy equations and experimental tests using heat source, heat sink and brass conduction extenders. For the thermoelectric cooling system, the temperatures in the chamber are recorded and then compared with those of lumped system analysis. The results show that the cooling capacity and COP of the thermoelectric module increases as the temperature difference between hot and cold surface decreases, and there is particular current at which cooling capacity reaches its maximum value. The experimental results for the thermoelectric cooling system are similar to those of lumped system analysis.
