BACKUP AND ULTIMATE HEAT SINKS IN CANDU REACTORS FOR PROLONGED SBO ACCIDENTS

  • In a pressurized heavy water reactor, following loss of the primary coolant, severe core damage would begin with the depletion of the liquid moderator, exposing the top row of internally-voided fuel channels to steam cooling conditions on the inside and outside. The uncovered fuel channels would heat up, deform and disassemble into core debris. Large inventories of water passively reduce the rate of progression of the accident, prolonging the time for complete loss of engineered heat sinks. The efficacy of available backup and ultimate heat sinks, available in a CANDU 6 reactor, in mitigating the consequences of a prolonged station blackout scenario was analysed using the MAAP4-CANDU code. The analysis indicated that the steam generator secondary side water inventory is the most effective heat sink during the accident. Additional heat sinks such as the primary coolant, moderator, calandria vault water and end shield water are also able to remove decay heat; however, a gradually increasing mismatch between heat generation and heat removal occurs over the course of the postulated event. This mismatch is equivalent to an additional water inventory estimated to be 350,000 kg at the time of calandria vessel failure. In the Enhanced CANDU 6 reactor ~2,040,000 kg of water in the reserve water tank is available for prolonged emergencies requiring heat sinks.

Literatural study on the Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Traumatherapy in Hysterorrhea (대하(帶下)에 대한 침구치료(鍼灸治療)와 외치법(外治法)에 관한 문헌적(文獻的) 고찰(考察))

  • According to the literatural study on the Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Traumatherapyof hysterorrhea, the results were as follows. 1. The acupuncture & moxibustion of hysterorrhea is focussed on bloody uterine discharge, leukorrhea and we must carefully diagnose the etiology & the machanism of disease. 2. The causes of hysterorrhea are dampness, impairment of seven emotion, irregular food intake, excessive intercourse and they are impotantly related to liver, spleen, kidney, the ren channel, the chong channel. 3. The diagnosis is grossly divided into the flowing downward of damp-heat, the weaknessof the qi of the spleen, dificiency of yuan of the kidney and according to the each diagnosis, we should select adquate points representing the treatment of cooling(zhongji, yinlingquan, xingjian, etc), desiccation, heiping qi(qihai, zusanli, sanyinjiao, etc), tonificating yang (guanyuan, mingmen, shinshu, etc). 4. The moxibustion is the warming the lower jiao and eliminating the cold, the points are the mingmen point, the zhongji point, the guanyuan point, etc. 5. Besides the acupuncture & moxibustion of hysterorrhea, we can make use of acusetor, ear acupuncture, endermosis, dong shi shen fa. 6. As of traumatherapy of hysterorrhea, fumigation,abluent and soppository are generally used. and the prescriptions as GAMISASANGSAN, BANSUKSAN are used. 7. The medical herbs used on the treatment of hysterorrhea are the tonificating yang, dissipeting, desiccating medicines generally composed of CNIDII FRUCTUS, ALUMEN, ZANTHOXYLI FRUCTUS.

Using external medical treatment for Leucorrhea is washing and fumigation on vagina, to wash vagina, to insert vagina, cleansing theraphy and use with Suppository such as YONGYEOMGO(龍鹽膏), KAMISASANGJASAN(加味蛇床子散), SASANGSACHUNGSEJE(蛇床子洗劑). 4. The efficacy of medicines to use external medical treatment is as follow to helpcirculation of blood, to warm spleen and stomach, to warm blood, to warm uterus and remove cold, to remove heat and dry moisture, to down heat-product, to contract bloodvessel, to counteract poison and destory virus, to make enerey and blood.. 5.   • In order to investigate the performance of an internal heat exchanger for $CO_2$ refrigerant system, the experiment was performed. Four kinds of internal heat exchangers(IHX) were used. The effects on the IHX length, the number of tube, the operating condition and the type of IHX were investigated. With increasing of the IHX length, the capacity and efficiency increased. The pressure drop of the low-side was larger compared with that of the high-side. As the temperature of the gas cooler increased, the capacity and efficiency increased linearly. The operation condition of evaporator was suggested as two phase region rather than superheat region. The capacity and efficiency of the micro-channel was larger about 90% and 75% than those of the tube. But the pressure drop of the micro-channel was more larger, compared with that of the tube.

Optimization of an extra vessel electromagnetic pump for Lead-Bismuth eutectic coolant circulation in a non-refueling full-life small reactor

  • This study presents an optimal design of the coolant system of a non-refueling full-life small reactor by analyzing the space-integrated geometrical and electromagnetic variables of an extra vessel electromagnetic pump (EVEMP) for the circulation of a lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) coolant. The EVEMP is an ideal alternative to the thermal-hydraulic system of non-refueling full-life micro reactors as it possesses no internal structures, such as impellors or sealing structures, for the transportation of LBE. Typically, the LBE passes through the annular flow channel of a reactor, is cooled by the heat exchanger, and then circulates back to the EVEMP flow channel. This thermal-hydraulic flow method is similar to natural circulation, which enhances thermal efficiency, while providing a golden time for cooling cores in the event of an emergency. When the forced circulation technology of the EVEMP was applied, the non-refueling full-life micro reactor achieve an output power of 60 MWt, which is higher than that achievable via the natural circulation method (30 MWt). Accordingly, an optimized EVEMP for Micro URANUS with a flow rate of 4196 kg/s and developed pressure of 73 kPa under a working temperature of 250 ℃ was designed.

Shape Optimization of a Rotating Cooling Channel with Pin-Fins (핀휜이 부착된 회전하는 냉각유로의 최적설계)

  • This paper describes the design optimization of a rotating rectangular channel with staggered arrays of pin-fins by Kriging metamodeling technique. Two non-dimensional variables, the ratio of the height to the diameter of the pin-fins and the ratio of the spacing between the pin-fins to the diameter of the pin-fins are chosen as the design variables. The objective function that is a linear combination of heat transfer and friction loss related terms with a weighting factor is selected for the optimization. To construct the Kriging model, objective function values at 20 training points generated by Latin hypercube sampling are evaluated by a three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) analysis method with the SST turbulence model. The Kriging model predicts the objective function value that agrees well with the value calculated by the RANS analysis at the optimum point. The objective function is reduced by 11% by the optimization of the channel.

평판 디스플레이의 효율화를 위한 진공 인-라인 실장기술에 관한 연구

  • PDP, FED, 그리고 VFD와 같은 마이크로 전자디스플레이 장치를 제작하기 위한 가장 중요한 기술중에 하나인 패널 내를 고진공으로 만드는 것과 초기의 진공을 유지하는 것이다. PDP 디스플레이는 전면판과 후면판으로 구성되어 있다. 전면판은 ITO전극, 절연체 그리고 MgO보호막으로 구성되어 있으며, 후면판은 어드레스 전극, 반사층, 격벽, 그리고 형광체층이 있다. 기존의 방식은 대기에서 프릿 글라스를 이용하여 두 장의 유리를 봉입하고, 후면판 모서리 부분에 있는 구멍에 배기 글라스 튜브를 붙이고, 튜브를 통해서 배기하고, 플라즈마 가스를 채우고, 최종적으로 tip-off를 한다. 이러한 기존의 방식을 통해서는 배기 컨덕턴스의 한계로 얻을 수 있는 초기 진공도에 한계가 있다. 아울러 두 장의 유리사이는 150$\mu$m 정도의 간격으로 되어 있고, 이웃한 격벽사이는 320$\mu$m 정도의 미세한 공간이 주어지는 구조가 컨덕턴스를 저하시킨다. 이와 같은 초기 진공도의 한계성을 극복하기 위한 연구로서, PDP 패널을 구성하는 두 장의 글라스를 진공 챔버내에서 IR heater를 이용하여 실장하였다. 대개 PbO, ZnO, SiO2,, 그리고 B?로 구성된 프릿 글라스를 대기에서 전면판에 dispensing하고 가소한다. 그리고 프릿 글라스가 형성된 전면판과 후면판을 loading, align 한 다음, 2 10-7torr까지 펌핑한 후 heating, holding 그리고 cooling 공정을 수행하므로 써 두 장의 유리를 실장하였다. 그러나 온도의 non-uniformity, 프릿 성분에 따라서 crack과 기포문제가 진공 실장과정에서 발생하였다. 이와 같은 문제를 개선하기 위해 프릿 글라스의 새로운 조성과 온도 uniformity를 유지하므로써, 프릿 글라스의 기포와 crack 발생없이 재현성 있게 진공 실장하였다. Leak channel 형성유무를 검증하기 위하여 챔버 자체의 펌핑 속도와 제작된 패널의 펌핑 속도를 비교하므로써, leak channel형성 유무를 평가할 수 있는 방법을 이용하였다. 이와 같은 방법을 이용하여, crack 또는 기포가 있는 패널은 leak channel을 형성하여 패널내의 진공을 유지할 수 없음을 검증하였고, crack 또는 기포가 없는 패널은 leak channel없이 패널내의 진공을 유지할 수 있음을 검증하였다. 결과적으로 진공 인-라인 실장시 가장 중요한 요인인 프릿의 변화를 분석하므로써, 고진공을 요구하는 FPD(PDP, FED, VFD)에 적합하게 적용할 수 있으며, 아울러 실장시 진공도를 개선하므로 패널내부의 오염을 최소화하여 디스필레이로서의 효율을 극대화할 수 있을 것이다.

  • An improved version of RELAP5/MOD2 Cycle 36.04 code is assessed for LOFI LBLOCA Test L2-5. Minor modifications to the original version have been done to avoic reflood related errors. Based on the modified version, one base case and two cases for sensitivity study on downcomer and core channel modelling are calculated. The calculation results are compared with the experimental data for primary system pressure, break mass How rate and cladding temperature at hot spot According to the comparison, it is found that the hydraulic system behaviors are well predicted, excessive core cooling exist in blowdown phase for a single core channel and a combined downcomer case, and a better result can be obtained for a two core channel case.

  • Recently, the need of thin-walled injection molding and enhancement of its productivity is greatly increased. In this study, we designed and manufactured a injection molding system, which can mold a part with the thickness of $500{\mu}m$ and 8 cavity. And processing technique for the multi-cavity injection molding system, which is capable of mass productivity on the plastic parts, was considered. The problems of unbalance/imbalance on the molding process for the multi-cavity mold were predicted by numerical analysis using plastic injection molding commercial code. In addition, controllable system of melt front filling was introduced for a balanced filling using the mold temperature sensor on injection mold. It was shown that balanced filling with the suggested injection molding system was possible for $500{\mu}m$ plastic parts with 8 cavity layout.
