  • Increasing the switching frquency is essential to achieve the high density of switched mode power supplies, but this leads to the increase of switching losses. A number of new soft switching converters have been presented ot reduce switching losses, but most of them may have some demerits, such as the increase of voltage/current stresses and high conduction losses. To overcome these problems, the ZVT-PWM converter has recently been presented. in this paper, the operation characteristics of the ZVT-PWM boost converter is analyzed, and the steady-states (DC) and small-signal model of this converter are derived and analyzed, and then the transfer functions of this converter are derived. The transfer functions of ZVT-PWM boost converter are similar to those of the conventional PWM boost converter, but the transfer characteristics are affecsted by te duty ratio and the switching frequency.

  • In this paper, a DC and small-signal AC modeling for the active-clamp, ful1-bridge boost converter is described. Based on the operation principle, the ac part of the converter can be replaced by a dc counterpart. Then, a conceptual equivalent circuit is derived by rearranging the switches. The equivalent circuit for this converter consists of CCM(Continuous conduction mode) boost and DCM(Discontinuous conduction mode) buck converter. The analyses for the equivalent CCM boost and DCM buck converter are done using the model of PWM switch. The theoretical modeling results are confirmed through experiment or SIMPLIS simulation.

  • High frequency alternating current (HFAC) has been widely used in a wide range of power distribution systems (PDS) due to its superior performance. A high frequency AC/DC converter plays the role of converting HFAC voltage to DC voltage. In this paper, a new LCL-T resonant AC/DC converter has been proposed, and an easier control method based on input voltage comparison is presented, without the complicated calculation of the zero-crossing point. Both a low distortion and near-to-unity power factor can be achieved by the proposed resonant converter and control strategy. The operational principle and steady-state analysis are given for the proposed resonant converter. A simulation model and experimental prototype are implemented with an operation frequency of 25kHz and a rated power of 20W. The simulation and experimental results verify the accuracy of the analysis and the excellent performance of the proposed topology.

  • In this paper, sigma-delta A/D converter for ADSL modems using oversampling technique is designed. Conventionally, the oversampling A/D converter is consist of opamps, switched capacitors, quantizers, infernal D/A converters, and decimation filters. 3-bit flash A/D converter, 3-bit thermometer-based D/A converters, and sub-blocks are used for high speed operation. HSPICE simulator and CADENCE tool are used for verification and layout of the designed modulator. The internal A/D converter and D/A converters are operated at 130 MHz. In design of decimation filter Matlab is used for calculating coefficients and ModelSim and VHDL are used for design.

  • Pulse width modulation using discontinuous conduction modes are applied to a full-bridge series resonant converter to regulate the output from no load to full load with low switching loss and a narrow range of frequency variation. Finally, a simple nonlinear discrete-time dynamic model for this proposed converter is derived using approximation. This discrete time model is linearized and a general input - output transfer function for the propelled converter is derived.

  • Photovoltaic systems normally use a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique ta continuously deliver the highest possible power to the load when variations in the insolation and temperature occur. A simple method of tracking the maximum power points (MPPs) and forcing the boost converter system to operate close to these points is presented through deriving small-signal model and transfer function of boost converter. This paper aims at modeling boost converter including equivalent series resistance of input reservoir capacitor by state-space-averaging method and PWM switch model with properly designed controller for maximum photovoltaic power tracking control.

  • Robust DC-DC converter which can cover extensive load changes and also input voltage changes with one controller is needed. In this paper, we propose a method for determining the parameters of 2DOF digital controller which makes the control bandwidth wider, and at the same time makes a variation of the output voltage very small at sudden changes of resistive load and the input voltage. The 2DOF digital controller whose parameters are determined by the proposed method is actually implemented on a DSP and is connected to a DC-DC converter. Experimental studies demonstrate that this type of digital controller can satisfy given specifications.

  • Cross regulation is a key technical issue of single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) DC-DC converters. This paper investigates the cross regulation in single-inductor dual-output (SIDO) Buck converters with continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation. The expressions of the DC voltage gain, control to the output transfer function, cross regulation transfer function, cross coupled transfer function and impedance transfer function of the converter are presented by the time averaging equivalent circuit approach. A small signal model of a SIDO CCM Buck converter is built to analyze this cross regulation. The laws of cross regulation with respect to various load conditions are investigated. Simulation and experiment results verify the theoretical analysis. This study will be helpful for converter design to reduce the cross regulation. In addition, a control strategy to reduce cross regulation is performed.

  • Catalytic converters are the most fascinating and complicated chemical reactors. They are most often operated in the transient state with respect to composition, flow rate, temperature, etc. The mathermatical model developed in this work accounts for simultaneous heat and mass transfer, chemical reaction, and multi dimensional flow characteristics to analyze the light-off performance of monolithic catalytic converter with comparable mass flow rate. To validate the mathematical model, comparison between experimental and numerical results has been performed. The numerical results show a good agreement with experimental data. It is forund that inflow rate shows major effect on the characteristics of termal response of catalytic converter.

  • This paper deals with a bidirectional ac-dc converter used in ups system application. We propose a Voltage-Source-Charge-Pump-Power-Factor-Correction(VS-CPPFC) ac-dc converters. First of all, we propose a charge pump power-factor-correction converter. Secondly, we derive and analyse a unity power factor condition. The proposed topology is based on a half-bridge for the primary and a current-fed push pull for the secondary side of a high frequency isolation transformer. The advantage of bidirectional flow of power achieved by using the same power components is that the circuit is simple and efficient. And the galvanically isolated topology is specially attractive in battery charge/discharge circuits in ups system. We design equivalent model for the steady-state circuit and analyse operation waveforms for each mode. We show that the proposed model can be applied to ups system by simulation processes.
