Geometrically standardized dental radiographs were taken. We prepared Digital Cu-Equivalent Image Analyzing System for quantitative assessment of mandible bone. Images of radiographs were digitized by means of Quick scanner and personal Mcquintosh computer. NIH image as software was used for analyzing images. A stepwedge composed of 10 steps of 0.1mm copper foil in thickness was used for reference material. This study evaluated the effects of step numbers of copper wedge adopted for calculating equation. kVp and exposure time on the coefficient of determination(r²)of the equation for conversion to Cu-equivalent image and the coefficient of variation and Cu-Eq value(mm) measured at each copper step and alveolar bone of the mandible. The results were as follows: 1. The coefficients of determination(r²) of 10 conversion equations ranged from 0.9996 to 0.9973(mean=0.9988) under 70kVp and 0.16 sec. exposure. The equation showed the highest r was Y=4.75614612-0.06300524x +0.00032367x² -0.00000060x³. 2. The value of r² became lower when the equation was calculated from the copper stepwedge including 1.0mm step. In case of including 0mm step for calculation. the value of r showed variability. 3. The coefficient of variation showed 0.11, 0.20 respectively at each copper step of 0.2, 0.1mm in thickness. Those of the other steps to 0.9 mm ranged from 0.06 to 0.09 in mean value. 4. The mean Cu-Eq value of alveolar bone was 0.14±0.02mm under optimal exposure. The values were lower than the mean under the exposures over 0.20sec. in 60kVp and over 0.16sec. in 70kVp. 5. Under the exposure condition of 60kVp 0.16sec.. the coefficient of variation showed 0.03. 0.05 respectively at each copper-step of 0.3, 0.2mm in thickness. The value of r² showed over 0.9991 from both 9 and 10 steps of copper. The Cu-Eq value and the coefficient of variation was 0.14±0.01mm and 0.07 at alveolar bone respectively. In summary. A clinical application of this system seemed to be useful for assessment of quantitative assessment of alveolar provided high coefficient of determination is obtained by the modified adoption of copper step numbers and the low coefficient of variation for the range of Cu-Equivalent value of alveolar bone from optimal kVp and exposure time for each x-ray machine.
N-Methylamidinoglycine, an isomer of creatine which was postulated to be formed enzymatically in vitro, has been synthesized by coupling glycine with N, S-dimethylthiopseudouronium iodide in a yield of approxirnately 60%. On heating in acidic solution, it was converted to a cyclized form (isocreatinine) in analogy with the conversion of creatine to creatinine(anhydrous form). Structures were confirmed by an elemental analysis and proton NMR spectroscopy. Further studies on their characteristics were compared with those of creatine and creatinine in regard to isoelectric points(pI), retardation coefficients(Rf) on thin layer chromatography, and elution profiles on amino acid analyzer. In order to facilitate the comparison, $^{14}C$-labeled creatine, creatinine, isocreatine and isocreatinine were also synthesized.
Reactive powder concrete (RPC) is a type of ultra-high strength cement-based material with a dense microstructure, which is made of ultra-fine powders. RPC demonstrate a very brittle behavior, thus adding fibers improves its mechanical properties. In this study, it was attempted to investigate the effect of using steel and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers as well as their combination on the properties of RPC. In this regard, hooked-end crimped steel fibers together with short PVA fibers were utilized. Steel and PVA fibers were used with the maximum volume fraction of 3% and 0.75%, respectively, and also different combinations of these fibers were used with the maximum volume fraction of 1% in the concrete mixes. In total, 107 concrete specimens were prepared, and the effect of fiber type and volume fraction on the physico-mechanical properties of RPC including compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, density, and failure mode was explored. In addition, the effect of the curing type on the properties of compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, and density of RPC was evaluated. Finally, coefficients for conversion of cubic compressive strength to cylindrical one for the RPC specimens were obtained under the two curing regimes of heat treatment and standard water curing.

The improvement of solar energy-to-electricity conversion efficiency has continued to be an important research area of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The mechanism of DSSCs is based on the injection of electrons from the photoexcited dye into the conduction band of nanocrystalline TiO2 or ZnO. Thus, the electronic structures, such as HOMO, LUMO, and HOMO-LUMO band gaps of dye moleculed in DSSC are deeply related to the electron transfer by photoexcitation and redox potential. Organic dyes, because of their many advantages, such as high molar extinction coefficients, convenience of customized molecular design for desired photophysical and photochemical properties, inexpensiveness with no transition metals contained, and environment-friendliness, are suitable as photosensitizers for DSSC. We believe that practically useful organic dye photosensitizers can be produced by exploiting electron donor/acceptor system with proper length of ${\pi}$-conjugation in a chromophore to control the absorption wavelength and enhance the photovoltaic performance. In this research, We designed and synthesized organic dyes also investigated the photoelectrochemical properties of a series of ionic dyes in DSSCs.
When the magnetotail is disturbed by an impulsive input such as the substorm onset, compressional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves play an important role in delivering perturbed energy and exciting various wave modes and currents. The plasmasheet, in which relatively hot plasmas exist, is surrounded by relatively cold plasmas at the plasma sheet boundary layer (PSBL) and the equatorial plasmasphere. Since the Alfven speed significantly varies near these regions, the compressional waves are expected to undergo mode conversion by inhomogeneity at the boundary between cold and hot plasma regions. We investigate how the initial compressional MHD wave energy is reflected, transmitted, and absorbed across that boundary by adopting the invariant imbedding method (IIM) which gives the exact reflection, transmission, and absorption coefficients without any theoretical approximations for given frequencies and wave numbers. The IIM method is very useful in quantifying the reflection and transmission of compressional waves in the sense that we can calculate how much fast mode wave energy is delievered into shear Alfven waves or field-aligned currents. Our results show that strongly localized absorption occurs at the boundary region. This feature suggests that localized field-aligned currents can be impulsively excited at such boundary regions by any compressional disturbances, which is highly associated with impulsive auroral brightening at the substorm onset. We compare our results with previous studies in cold inhomogeneous plasmas.
Infrared channels of newly launched Japanese geostationary satellite, MTSAT-1R are compared with well calibrated MODIS/Terra infrared measurements at 3.7, 6.7, 11, 12 ${\mu}m$ bands. There are four steps in this intercalibration method: 1) data collection, 2) spectral response function correction, 3) data collocation, and 4) calculation of mean bias and conversion coefficients. In order to minimize the navigation error of MTSAT-1R, comparisons are made over the area in which the viewing angle of MTSAT-1R is less than 50$^{\circ}$. The calibration method was tested for August 2005 and within the 40$^{\circ}N$-40$^{\circ}S$, 100$^{\circ}$E-180$^{\circ}$E domain. The differences of spectral response functions were corrected through radiative transfer model simulation. Constructing collocated data differences in viewing geometry, observation time and space were taken into account. In order to avoid the radiance variation induced by cloud presence, clear-sky targets are selected as intercalibration target. The mean biases of 11, 12, 6.7, and 3.7 ${\mu}m$ bands are about -0.16, 0.36, 1.31, and -6.69 K, suggesting that accuracies of 3.7 ${\mu}m$ is questionable while other channels are comparable to MODIS

For the reduction of the 12-channel TDM/FDM translation time the 14-point fast DCT algorithm is used and the polyphase network which translates the prototype filter into the channel filters required in each channel is designed. For the prototype filter the degree of the numerator is 168 and the coefficients have symmetry values, the degree of the numerator is 6. Such a prototype filter is consistant with the CCITT requirements. In this case the required multiplication rate is CCITT requirements. In this case the required multiplication rate is $0.12267{\times}10^2$ multiplications/sec. channel and reduces to about 15-40% of the rate required in the exising systems. The proposed 12-channel TDM/FDM translation system is simulated using a demodulation system with a computer (PRIME 750) and the results show that the proposed conversion method is valid.

In this paper, a problem that occurred in the telegraphist equation established by mode conversion method is solved as analysis tapered transmission line is applied to a waveguide taper. After comparing and analyzing the taper function with variant properties, we select on of taper functions not only that is easily designed but also that have good properties. And then we propose the applicant method to design the waveguide taper and deal with the design of mode transducer between rectangular waveguide and circular waveguide. The measured results of scattering coefficients for the mode transducer fabricated with designed data are agreed well with the theoretical results and the validity of the proposed design and analysis method has been confirmed.

To construct its complex permittivity from the reflection coefficient of a thin film such as PCB substrate measured by open-ended coaxial probe, an integral equation is formulated using modal analysis and equivalent source. The accuracy of the conversion model based on the integral equation is confirmed in both cases of converted complex permittivities calculated from numerically computed and actually measured reflection coefficients. And the maximum valid frequency of open-ended coaxial probe is limited by the size of its flange.

Machine tool design concepts have evolved towards high efficiency, accurate precision. high structural integrity, and multi-functional systems. Like many other structures, machine tools are also composed of many parts. When these parts are assembled, many kinds of joints are used. In the finite element analysis of these assembled structures, most joints are commonly considered as rigid joints. But, to get the more accurate solution, we need to model these joints in a appropriate manner. In this study, rational dynamic modeling and analysis method for complex structures are studied with special attention to slide way joints. For modeling of slide way joints, a general modeling technique is used by influence coefficients method which is applied to the conversion of detailed finite element model to the equivalent reduced joint model. The theoretical part of this method is illustrated and the method is applied to the structure with slide way joint. In this method. the non-linearity of the contact surfaces is considered within a proper range and the boundary effect of the joint model can be eliminated. The proposed method was applied to finite element modal analysis of a clamp jointed cantilever beam and slide way joints of the vertical type lathe. The method can also be used to other kinds of joint modeling. The results of these analysis were compared with those of Yoshimura models and rigid joint models. which demonstrated the practical applicability of the proposed method.
