In this study, the advanced on-sided stress wave velocity measurement method was applied to investigate the effects of composition, age and moisture content in concrete. Two concrete specimens that have different composition were used to figure out the change of the Longitudinal and Surface wave velocity due to different composition. The other concrete specimen was cast and the Longitudinal and Surface wave velocity was monitored during curing process. After 28-day old, the effect of moisture content in the concrete specimen to the stress wave velocity is presented in this paper during the time period 43-74 days after casting. For drying process. an aggregate drying oven was used. A conventional ultrasonic through transmission method was used to compare with the results determined by the one-sided method.

Discusses the results of an investigation of the relationship between maturity in field-cured specimens and that from the thinner dimension structure to thick, particularly at cold weather concrete. Tests were carried out on two different concrete mixes with 28 day compressive strengths ranging approximately 30MPa. Ready-mixed concrete was used, and test specimens were the conventional field-cured 10$\times$20cm concrete cylinder with insulating materials and without them, and test structures were the thinner(width 20cm), the general(width 40cm), the thick dimension(width 60cm), respectively. Tests were performed at age of 3, 7, 14, 28 day. Analyses of test results show that the maturity of concrete for require compressive strength was suggested to be keep higher than $164D^{circ}D$ until at least from 8day to 10day

Recently, Korea government prepared Act on facilitation of construction waste recycling in December 2003 for effective recycling of rapidly increasing construction wastes, and has enforced the Act on Jan. 2005. This Act limits the definition of recycled aggregates to the aggregates which obtained quality certificate and for this purpose, government has operated quality standard and certificate system of recycling aggregate. The objective of this experimental study is to evaluate the mechanical properties of recycled coarse aggregate concrete according to curing method by ready-mixed concrete. Compressive strength ratio of recycled aggregate concrete under air-dry curing/wet curing was $74{\sim}91%$. KCI code for conventional concrete overestimated elastic modulus for recycled coarse aggregate concrete.

This paper presents the results of mock up test on the manufacturing of high fluidity concrete by applying flowing methods with segregation reducing type superplasticizer(SRS). Three kinds of mock up structure are made such as. conventional concrete(A), high fluidity concrete(B) and high fluidity concrete incorporating 20% of fly ash(C). Physical and mechanical properties, temperature history of structure and nondestructive test are performed. Segregation reducing type superplasticizer is put into base concrete at field, and base concrete is also flowed at field. C mock up structure which requires 0.85% of SRS to flow base concrete shows most desirable performance at fresh state. The highest rising temperature shows the lowest at C structure among the tested structures. Strength variations before and after flowing also show the lowest values at C structures.

The most typical capping method for concrete structures is a sulfur-mortar compound capping, provided it satisfied the standard criterion set forth by ASTM C 617, but this conventional bonded-type method has many problems. It exhibits relatively the smaller unreliable value of the strength of high-strength concrete due to the differences of elasticity and strength between the cylinder and the cap, and manifests poor serviceability such as dangerous working tasks or a waste of the working time. To prevent these problems, unbonded-type capping methods have taken the place of the conventional methods in recent years. One of the popular methods is the use of synthetic rubber like a neoprene pad. Serious problems still remain in this method, which include the consideration of its chemical characteristics in consideration of the selection, the safekeeping and the economy of the pads. Moreover, the synthetic rubber pads cannot be used in concrete cylinder with strength greater than 80 MPa according to ASTM C 1231-00. New 'sand-capping method' presented in this study, can be applicable to the compressive strength evaluation of the high strength concrete in the range of $70{\sim}100\;MPa$. This new method has better simplicity and reliability than those of existing 'sand-box', because usual materials such as standard sand and simply-devised apparatus are used for the capping system. The statistical analysis of the test results revealed that the new sand-capping method exhibited the smallest deviation and dispersion, attesting for its much better reliability than other methods specified in ASTM C 1231/1231M.

The objective of this study is to develop a high-performance foamed concrete made with a new mixture proportioning as an alternative of autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) block. For the early-strength gain of the foamed concrete under an atmospheric curing condition, the binders and chemical agents were specially contrived as follows: 3% anhydrous gypsum was added to ordinary portland cement (OPC) in which $3CaO{\cdot}SiO_2$ content was controlled to be above 60%; and the content of polyethylene glycol alkylether in a polycarboxylate-based water-reducing agent was modified to be 28%. Using these binders and chemical agents, 11 mixes were prepared with the parameters of W/B ratio (30% to 20% in a interval of 2.5%) and unit binder content ($400kg/m^3$ to $650kg/m^3$ in a interval of $50kg/m^3$). The quality and availability of the mixed foamed concrete were examined according to the minimum requirements specified in the KS for ALC block and existed conventional foamed concrete. The measured properties satisfied the minimum requirement of KS for ALC block and proved that the developed high-performance foamed concrete had considerable potential for practical application.
High-performance concrete (HPC) usually has higher paste and lower coarse aggregate volumes than normal concrete. The lower aggregate content of HPC can affect the shear capacity of concrete members due to the formation of smooth fractured surfaces and the subsequent development of weak interface shear transfer. Therefore, an experimental investigation was conducted to study the shear strength and cracking behavior of full-scale reinforced beams made with low-cement-content high-performance concrete (LcHPC) as well as conventional HPC. A total of fourteen flexural reinforced concrete (RC) beams without shear reinforcements were tested under a two-point load until shear failure occurred. The primary design variables included the cement content, the shear span to effective depth ratio (a/d), and the tensile steel ratio (${\rho}_w$). The results indicate that LcHPC beams show comparable behaviors in crack and ultimate shear strength as compared with conventional HPC beams. Overall, the shear strength of LcHPC beams was found to be larger than that of corresponding HPC beams, particularly for an a/d value of 1.5. In addition, the crack and ultimate shear strength increased as a/d decreased or ${\rho}_w$ increased for both LcHPC beams and HPC beams. This investigation established that LcHPC is recommendable for structural concrete applications.
According to deformation data measured in some high concrete dams, for dam body deformation, there is a complex relationship with dam height and water head for different projects, instead of a simple monotonic relationship consistently. Meanwhile, settlement data of some large reservoirs exhibit a significant deformation of reservoir basin. As water conservancy project with high concrete dam and large storage capacity increase rapidly these decades, reservoir basin deformation problem has gradually gained engineers' attentions. In this paper, based on conventional analytical method, an improved analytical method for high concrete dam is proposed including the effect of reservoir basin deformation. Though establishing FEM models of two different scales covering reservoir basin and near dam area respectively, influence of reservoir basin on dam body is simulated. Then, forward and inverse analyses of concrete dam are separately conducted with conventional and proposed analytical methods. And the influence of reservoir basin deformation on dam working behavior is evaluated. The results of two typical projects demonstrate that reservoir basin deformation will affect dam deformation and stress to a certain extent. And for project with large and centralized water capacity ahead of dam site, the effect is more significant than those with a slim-type reservoir. As a result, influence of reservoir basin should be taken into consideration with conducting analysis of high concrete dam with large storage capacity.
The Self Compacting Concrete, SCC is the new generation type of concrete which is not needed to be compacted by vibrator and it will be compacted by its own weight. Since SCC is a new innovation and also the high strength self compacting concrete, HSSCC behavior is like a brittle material, therefore, understanding the strength effect on the serviceability performance of reinforced self compacting concretes is critical. For this aim, first the normal and high strength self compacting concrete, NSSCC and HSSCC was designed. Then, the serviceability performance of reinforced connections consisting of NSSCC and HSSCC were investigated. Twelve reinforced concrete connections (L = 3 m, b = 0.15 m, h = 0.3 m) were simulated, by this concretes, the maximum and minimum reinforcement ratios ${\rho}$ and ${\rho}^{\prime}$ (percentage of tensile and compressive steel reinforcement) are in accordance with the provision of the ACI-05 for conventional RC structures. This study was limited to the case of bending without axial load, utilizing simple connections loaded at mid span through a stub (b = 0.15 m, h = 0.3 m, L = 0.3 m) to simulate a beam-column connection. During the test, concrete and steel strains, deflections and crack widths were measured at different locations along each member. Based on the experimental readings and observations, the cracked moment of inertia ($I_{cr}$) of members was determined and the results were compared with some selective theoretical methods. Also, the flexural crack widths of the members were measured and the applicability for conventional vibrated concrete, as for ACI, BS and CSA code, was verified for SCCs members tested. A comparison between two Codes (ACI and CSA) for the theoretical values cracking moment is indicate that, irrespective of the concrete strength, for the specimens reported, the prediction values of two codes are almost equale. The experimental cracked moment of inertia $(I_{cr})_{\exp}$ is lower than its theoretical $(I_{cr})_{th}$ values, and therefore theoretically it is overestimated. Also, a general conclusion is that, by increasing the percentage of ${\rho}$, the value of $I_{cr}$ is increased.
